FC 26 MATCHMAKING
The FC 26 Matchmaking system works based on your geographic location, your current form, and your platform.
How to Find an Opponent
Have you ever experienced situations where, before a match, the system struggles to find an opponent, or when your opponent is either much better or worse than you? Or maybe the game freezes frequently? These issues may arise because you’re not familiar with how the system matches players for online games. Don’t worry—we’ll explain everything to you.
FC 26 Matchmaking is designed to create fair and competitive online matches for players. The system considers various factors, such as skill level, location, and connection quality, to match players with opponents of similar abilities. This ensures that each match offers both a challenging and enjoyable experience.
Additionally, Football Club 26 features a ranking system that tracks player performance, allowing for more precise matchmaking based on skill development. By continuously analyzing player data and fine-tuning the matchmaking parameters, FC 26 strives to deliver balanced and exciting gameplay for everyone.
Generally speaking, EA Sports FC 26 online matchmaking system works based on three main factors:
- Your Location;
- Your Current Form;
- Your Platform.
Location
Location plays a crucial role in FC 26 matchmaking. The game takes into account the geographical proximity of players when searching for opponents by comparing IP addresses and account regions. The closer you are to a specific EA game server, the higher the likelihood of being matched with other players in the same region.
The main goal of this approach is to reduce latency or lag between players, ensuring a smoother and more responsive gameplay experience. By pairing players who are geographically closer, the game minimizes the distance data packets need to travel, leading to lower latency and more stable connections. This enhances the integrity of online matches and creates a fair, competitive environment for everyone.
Additionally, focusing on proximity in matchmaking helps reduce the chances of connectivity issues and ensures a balanced playing field for all participants.
If you prefer not to be matched with players primarily based on location, you can opt to have the matchmaking system ignore geographical proximity.
How to Disable Approximate Location Matchmaking
- From the main FC 26 screen, navigate to [Settings];
- Select [Online Settings];
- Select [Matchmaking Options];
- Change [Approximate Location Matchmaking] to ‘No’.
Current Form
In Football Club 26, current form is one of the factors that can influence matchmaking. The game takes into account the recent performance of players when searching for opponents.
This means that if you’ve been performing well and achieving positive results in your previous matches, the system may pair you with opponents who have a similar current form. Conversely, if your recent performances have been less successful, the matchmaking system may match you with opponents who are also experiencing a similar form.
This approach helps to create more balanced and competitive matches, ensuring that players are appropriately challenged based on their recent performances.
It’s important to note that form does not carry over between different competitions. When you start a Play-Offs or Finals, your form is initially set to zero, and it will be based on your performance within that specific competition. This ensures that matches are fair and competitive, as you’ll be facing opponents who are on a similar form trajectory as you in that particular tournament.
Platform
The platform you play on can impact matchmaking in FC 26. The game considers the platform you’re using when looking for opponents. For example, if you’re playing on a specific gaming console or PC platform, the matchmaking system will only search for opponents on the same platform.
This ensures compatibility, improving the online gaming experience. Matching players on the same platform leads to smoother connectivity, more consistent gameplay, and access to platform-specific features or functionalities.
If you want to be matched with players from other platforms, you need to enable the cross-play feature.
How to Enable Cross-Play
- From the main FC 26 screen, navigate to [Customise];
- Select [Onlinse Settings];
- Select [Matchmaking Options];
- Change [Cross-play Enabled] to ‘Yes’.

Champions folows the same matchmaking rules as other game modes in FC 26: location, form and platform.

Matchmaking is different depending on whether you are playing in Division 1 to 10, or you are playing the Elite Division.
Divisions 10–1
For both Solo and Co-Op Matchmaking for Divisions 10–1, you’ll matchmake with players based on two different factors:
– Your location. This determines which FC Game Data Center location will be used for your match.
– Your Rank. This means you’ll be matched with players that have a similar Rank as you.
Elite Division Matchmaking
Elite Division Matchmaking in Division Rivals is based on two different factors:
– Your location. This determines which FC Game Data Center location will be used for your match.
– Your Skill Rating. You’ll play with players who are close to the same Skill Rating as you. As long as you have a 2200 Skill Rating or above, you’ll matchmake as if you had a 2200 Skill Rating. This is to help make it easier for higher-skilled players to find matches.
The Skill Rating factor has a larger range on the PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S versions of Football Club 26 to better accommodate the player base on these platforms. If you’re playing Co-Op, the Skill Rating of the higher-skilled player in a pair is used when matchmaking, meaning that at least two of the four potential Co-Op participants can have a similar Skill Rating.
