Purchasing packs is extremely easy, but more often than not, they fail to meet expectations.

How to Buy

Ultimate Team is all about collecting cards that represent the players you want in your squad. These items can be earned through various modes, such as rewards or completing challenges. However, the fastest way to get them is by purchasing packs from the store.

How to Buy Packs
  1. From the Ultimate Team main screen, press R1/RB to go to [Store];
  2. Once in the store, use R1/RB to select [Browse];
  3. Select the the category and pack you want;
  4. Choose the payment method: coins or FC Points.
You can also do this process using the Web/Companion App.

The Best Times to Buy Packs

Not all times are ideal for buying packs. It’s best to purchase and save them to open when more and better cards are available, usually during special events. Depending on the quality of the event’s special cards, it may be a better or worse moment to take the risk.

However, the mere presence of an event doesn’t guarantee it’s the right time to buy. It’s also important that the best packs are available in the store. As a general rule, this happens on Fridays, but occasionally also on Saturdays, Sundays, and Wednesdays.

How to Save

If you’re a frequent pack buyer, subscribing to EA Play could be a smart move, as it offers several benefits—including a 10% discount on all purchases. Over the course of a season, these savings can add up significantly.

There are also rumors that EA uses aggressive tactics to increase pack sales, such as claims that buying with FC Points improves your chances of packing a top player. However, these remain unproven and should be viewed with skepticism.

Should I Buy FC 26 Packs?

When making a purchase, you’re exchanging something of value for something you believe is worth more. In Ultimate Team, however, the uncertainty comes from not knowing exactly what you’ll get in a pack, often leading to disappointment.

You can buy packs using either coins or FC Points. When spending coins, the goal is to pull cards worth more than the pack’s cost, but this is rare, making coin purchases a poor investment.

Using FC Points offers the same pack odds but requires real money instead of in-game currency. It’s similar to buying coins without knowing what you’ll receive in return. Ultimately, whether buying FC 26 packs is worth it depends on your personal budget and willingness to spend real money.

How Profitable Can It Be?

Conducting a reliable study on this topic is difficult due to the large sample size required. For example, if you open packs worth 3 million coins and happen to pull a very valuable card in an extra pack, your results will be skewed. It’s impractical for any individual to open enough packs to draw definitive conclusions about whether buying packs is worthwhile.

Our research, combined with community experiences, indicates that players typically recover only 55% to 65% of the value they spend on packs. The remaining 35% to 45% represents EA’s profit margin, similar to the house edge in sports betting, which usually ranges from 10% to 15%. However, EA’s margin is significantly higher, often exceeding 40%.

Never Got Lucky?

The consensus among seasoned Ultimate Team players aligns with our perspective on the poor strategy of purchasing Football Club packs. However, there are still many less experienced players who hold differing opinions. They may question why numerous individuals showcase only their exceptional pack pulls, leading to the misconception that all packs contain valuable cards, which is far from reality.

Additionally, some players mistakenly believe that buying FC 26 packs is the sole path to amassing wealth in the game. They observe other players on the market selling expensive cards and assume they accrued their wealth through pack purchases. In truth, these players are likely adept traders or may have engaged in less reputable practices.

Despite awareness of the drawbacks of buying packs, many players continue to do so. This persistence can be attributed to the innate human tendency to seek the path of least resistance and the desire for social validation and integration within the gaming community.

Are Players Forced to Buy Packs?

It’s important to remember that Football Club is EA Sports’ core business. They use aggressive marketing strategies to boost pack sales, showcasing lucky pulls on social media and partnering with YouTubers who unbox top players. However, the odds of getting such rare cards are low, as EA carefully limits their availability, encouraging players to keep trying their luck. Systems like loyalty points further incentivize pack purchases.

This cycle is fueled by YouTubers seeking fame and EA promoting successful pack openings, creating a strong narrative around pack luck. Many players, influenced by these stories, buy packs hoping for similar results, often spending large amounts without success.

We’re not against buying packs. They support Ultimate Team and help keep the card market active. Still, it’s essential to realize that building a competitive squad through packs requires a significant investment of either time or money. While not inherently wrong, it’s an expensive path, suited mainly for those willing to spend freely.

There are alternatives, such as selling rewards or trading, but these can be time-consuming or carry risks like potential bans for coin buying. Ultimately, packs provide excitement but aren’t the most efficient way to build a strong team.
