The DNF

DNF, short for ‘Did Not Finish‘, serves as a penalty system in FC 25 aimed at deterring players who frequently abandon matches. Each time a player quits a game prematurely, their DNF score is reduced, resulting in deductions from their final rewards, including coins. Although the system aims to discourage early exits and maintain fair play, it’s not without its flaws. Sometimes, players are unfairly penalized for disconnections, prompting EA Sports to implement measures to address connectivity issues and ensure accurate evaluations.

Initially set at 1, a player’s DNF score decreases by 0.25 points whenever a match concludes prematurely. Conversely, players with a DNF below 1 receive a 0.02 point bonus for completing uninterrupted matches, gradually restoring their DNF to the maximum value. This approach penalizes frequent quitters while offering a chance for those affected by occasional disconnections to recover their DNF over time.

EA’s intention behind DNF is to discourage unsportsmanlike behavior and maintain the integrity of FC 25 matches. However, some members of the community question its effectiveness, arguing that the existing penalties for forfeiting, such as reduced match rewards and contract usage, should suffice. Despite differing viewpoints, DNF only applies to online matches, where disconnections can impact the gameplay experience of both players.

In single-player Ultimate Team matches, the DNF multiplier is replaced with a standard multiplier, effectively negating the penalties associated with early exits. Nevertheless, the underlying objective remains to foster a more respectful and committed gaming environment among FC 25 players.

The DNF Multiplier

The DNF Multiplier serves as a coefficient that not only accounts for the number of unfinished matches but also considers the significance and difficulty levels inherent in various game modes and opponent matchups. This complexity may seem daunting, but it essentially functions as an amalgamation between a single DNF coefficient and a specific multiplier, to calculate the coin rewards granted at the conclusion of each match.

This multiplier is tailored to balance games across different quality levels, ensuring that players who complete more challenging matches receive larger coin bonuses compared to those engaging in easier matchups. The assessment of difficulty takes into consideration factors such as the game mode and the quality of the opponent, including their squad rating in online matches and the difficulty level in single-player mode, with predefined values assigned for each scenario.

In FC 25 Ultimate Team, your match rewards, represented by coins, are determined by various factors, including your performance, the match category, active coin bonuses, and competition results. This calculation follows a formula where the DNF Multiplier plays a significant role:

Match Coins = (Skill Rewards x DNF Multiplier) + Completion Award + Competition Reward + Coin Boost

Your DNF Multiplier varies depending on the game mode: 0.25, 0.36, 0.42, 0.50, 0.60, 0,63, 0.88, 0.93, 1.00 or 1.13. Quitting a match results in a penalty to your DNF Multiplier, reducing it by 0.25 times a factor specific to the game mode. Conversely, completing a match increases your DNF Multiplier by 0.02 times the same factor, gradually raising it towards the maximum limit.

The DNF Multiplier is derived from the combination of these two coefficients. While the values may appear random to those unfamiliar, they follow a specific pattern that can be challenging to discern. Analyzing the DNF and multiplier separately provides insight into their respective impacts on match rewards.
