FC 27 MATCHMAKING
The FC 27 Matchmaking system works based on your geographic location, your current form, and your platform.
How to Find an Opponent
Have you ever noticed that before a match the system struggles to find an opponent, or that your opponent is either much stronger or weaker than you? Maybe the game even freezes occasionally? These problems often happen because the matchmaking system may be unfamiliar to you. Don’t worry, we’ll break it down.
FC 27 Matchmaking is designed to create fair and competitive online matches. It takes into account factors such as skill level, location, and connection quality to pair players with opponents of similar ability. This ensures every match is both challenging and enjoyable.
The game also includes a ranking system that tracks player performance, enabling more accurate matchmaking based on skill progression. By constantly analyzing player data and adjusting matchmaking parameters, FC 27 aims to provide balanced and exciting gameplay for all.
Generally speaking, EA Sports FC 27 online matchmaking system works based on three main factors:
- Your Current Form;
- Your Location;
- Your Platform.
Current Form
In Football Club 27, a player’s current form is one of the factors that affects matchmaking. The system considers recent performance when pairing opponents.
If you’ve been performing well in recent matches, the game is likely to match you with opponents showing a similar level of form. On the other hand, if your recent results have been weaker, you may face players with comparable performances.
This method helps create balanced and competitive matches, ensuring players are challenged according to their recent form.
Keep in mind that form does not carry over between competitions. When starting a Play-Off or Finals, your form resets to zero and is determined solely by performance within that event. This guarantees fair play, as opponents will be on a similar form trajectory within the same tournament.
Location
Location plays a crucial role in FC 27 matchmaking. The game takes into account the geographical proximity of players when searching for opponents by comparing IP addresses and account regions. The closer you are to a specific EA game server, the higher the likelihood of being matched with other players in the same region.
The main goal of this approach is to reduce latency or lag between players, ensuring a smoother and more responsive gameplay experience. By pairing players who are geographically closer, the game minimizes the distance data packets need to travel, leading to lower latency and more stable connections. This enhances the integrity of online matches and creates a fair, competitive environment for everyone.
Additionally, focusing on proximity in matchmaking helps reduce the chances of connectivity issues and ensures a balanced playing field for all participants.
If you prefer not to be matched with players primarily based on location, you can opt to have the matchmaking system ignore geographical proximity.

- Change [Approximate Location Matchmaking] to ‘No’.
Platform
The platform you use can influence matchmaking in FC 27. The system takes your gaming platform into account when searching for opponents. For instance, if you are playing on a particular console or PC, matchmaking will look for opponents using the same platform.
This approach ensures compatibility, enhancing the online experience. Matching players on the same platform provides smoother connections, more consistent gameplay, and access to platform-specific features and functionalities.
If you want to be matched with players from other platforms, you need to enable the cross-play feature.
How to Enable Cross-Play
- From the main FC 27 screen, navigate to [Customise];
- Select [Onlinse Settings];
- Select [Matchmaking Options];
- Change [Cross-play Enabled] to ‘Yes’.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Starting with FIFA 23, you can play Champions matches with players from the same generation if crossplay is enabled on your account.
For Division Rivals specifically, matchmaking will be done using the divisions of the duo.
Champions matches follow the same matchmaking criteria as other FC 27 game modes, including location, form, and platform.
Players who perform above average in Champions—already a highly skilled group—will see their Form rise quickly. As their Form increases, the level of competition becomes tougher, and only the very best players can consistently overcome opponents with high Form.

Matchmaking is different depending on whether you are playing in Division 1 to 10, or you are playing the Elite Division.
Divisions 10–1
For both Solo and Co-Op Matchmaking for Divisions 10–1, you’ll matchmake with players based on two different factors:
– Your location. This determines which FC Game Data Center location will be used for your match.
– Your Rank. This means you’ll be matched with players that have a similar Rank as you.
Elite Division Matchmaking
Elite Division Matchmaking in Division Rivals is based on two different factors:
– Your location. This determines which FC Game Data Center location will be used for your match.
– Your Skill Rating. You’ll play with players who are close to the same Skill Rating as you. As long as you have a 2200 Skill Rating or above, you’ll matchmake as if you had a 2200 Skill Rating. This is to help make it easier for higher-skilled players to find matches.
The Skill Rating factor has a larger range on the PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S versions of Football Club 27 to better accommodate the player base on these platforms. If you’re playing Co-Op, the Skill Rating of the higher-skilled player in a pair is used when matchmaking, meaning that at least two of the four potential Co-Op participants can have a similar Skill Rating.
