The Best Defensive Midfielders
Several formations in Ultimate Team necessitate midfielders with a natural inclination towards defense. Central defensive midfielders primarily reinforce the backline but, depending on their attributes and work rates, can also instigate attacks, rendering their role on the field strategically significant.
When opting for a central defensive midfielder, various attributes must be taken into account: defending, for supporting the defense; strength, for more effective possession-winning; heading, for dominance in aerial duels like goal kicks; pace, for covering extensive spaces; stamina, enabling active participation in offensive and defensive maneuvers (especially advantageous for players with high/high work rates); passing and possession, facilitating attack initiation. In our assessment, defending and strength stand out as the most crucial attributes for this role.
Defensive midfielders are typically selected to bolster the defense, hence it’s logical for them to boast high defensive statistics. The CDM position occupies the area where most ball contests occur, and players with superior strength stand a better chance of securing possession.

Global Overview (CDM)
Anguissa is clearly the best defensive midfielder in Serie A that you can choose for your team. He is the strongest, only De Roon defends better, and only Bennacer is faster than him. These are convincing arguments for anyone. However, if you are looking for someone who is more adept at playmaking, even if it means sacrificing some defensive solidity, we suggest selecting Bennacer
We know how much the community loves Pogba. However, despite his other good stats, we don’t recommend using him due to his defensive abilities. He is the worst-defending midfielder in Serie A.
The Best Centre Midfielders
The outcome of many games is determined in the midfield rather than near the goals. It is the players in these areas who have the responsibility to create opportunities and dictate the tempo of the game.
Centre midfielders play a crucial role in finding openings that can disrupt the opponent’s defense. Their ability to deliver accurate passes is essential in assisting forwards and creating scoring chances.
Furthermore, possessing strong dribbling skills enables the team to advance up the field, presenting potential challenges for the opposing team.

Global Overview (CM)
Barella isn’t the best in any of the six face stats but is the best center midfielder playing in Italy overall. His superb stamina and high/high work rates are a pleasing extra.
The Italian player is also more expensive than any other CM playing in Italy. If you need an alternative, you can choose a player with specific attributes to play at CM, such as Çalhanoglu or Bennacer, or opt for someone more well-rounded, like Rabiot or Renato Sanches.
The Best Attacking Midfielders
The role of an attacking central midfielder is to be the primary creator of goal-scoring opportunities. They are expected to possess strong dribbling skills, accurate passing ability, a powerful long shot, and exceptional vision on the field.
Effective passing is crucial for these midfielders to provide assists to forwards. However, their impact in the team’s attacking play can be truly game-changing if they excel in dribbling as well.

Global Overview (CAM)
Unless you have a limited budget, anything other than using Dybala in this position is a complete nonsense. He is fast, and among all Serie A attacking midfielders, he has the best shooting, passing, and dribbling skills. Is this enough to convince you?
The best alternatives to the Roma midfielder are Bennacer and Pellegrini, two very well-rounded players.
The Best Right Midfielders
Wingers play a crucial role in providing width to the team’s attacking play.
Pace is often the standout attribute for these players as they utilize their speed to outrun opponents. However, simply being fast is not enough to penetrate the opponent’s defense. A strong dribbling ability enables wingers to navigate past opposition players who stand in their path. Once they reach the opponent’s box, wingers must make critical decisions. Often, they opt to deliver crosses, highlighting the significance of having impressive passing statistics.

Global Overview (RM, RW)
Chiesa and Kvaratskhelia are excellent choices for the right midfield, even though they don’t play as RMs. That’s precisely why Berardi comes up as an alternative to consider.
You can also go for highly versatile and celebrated players like Cuadrado and the prominent Renato Sanches.
The Best Left Midfielders
Left wingers perform a comparable function to their counterparts on the opposite side.
Their primary asset is pace, which empowers them to outmaneuver opposing defenders. Yet, pure speed alone doesn’t ensure reaching the opponent’s box. A robust dribbling skill is essential for navigating past encountered opposition players. Upon entering the opponent’s box, the winger encounters the challenge of decision-making. Usually, crossing emerges as the preferred option, highlighting the importance of having strong passing abilities.

Global Overview (LM, LW)
The left midfield side of Serie A is brimming with talent. In fact, it’s a waste to have three players of the quality of Rafael Leão, Chiesa, and Kvaratskhelia. The Portuguese player, with his supersonic speed and dazzling dribbling, stands out the most among the three, although he shares many similarities with Chiesa.
If you’re looking for someone more suited for defensive moments and counterattacks, you can opt for Theo Hernández, but keep in mind that in this case, you won’t be able to use him as a left-back. If budget is a concern, we recommend trying out Kostić.
