Each month, in partnership with the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga, Electronic Arts selects the top-performing Bundesliga players from the previous month. The process starts by identifying six players with the strongest individual performance data, evaluated across roughly 20 different criteria.
The final winner is chosen through a combined voting system that includes team captains from all 18 clubs (30%), a panel of Bundesliga legends and media experts (30%), and fans around the world (40%). Once the winner is officially announced, EA promptly introduces a Squad Building Challenge tailored to that player. By completing the challenge(s), players earn a tradable special Player of the Month version featuring boosted stats and dynamic artwork, making it a highly desirable item for FC fans.
The first player of the month item was assigned to the award winner of October 2018, in FIFA 19.
Each season, Electronic Arts releases seven to eight Player of the Month items from Bundesliga.
