FC 27 SBC
SBC in Football Club 27 is a mode where you can challenge your squad-building skills by assembling teams that fulfill specific requirements.
SBC Explained
SBCs, or Squad Building Challenges, are activities in Football Club 27 Ultimate Team that let you exchange Player Items for rewards by meeting specific requirements.
FC 27 features two SBC formats: Streamlined SBCs and Traditional SBCs. Streamlined SBCs are expected to be used for most Player and Upgrade SBCs, while Traditional SBCs remain available for challenges focused on squad building and puzzle solving.
In a Streamlined SBC, you select eligible Player Items from your Club instead of building a complete squad around Chemistry, positions, or an overall Squad Rating. Each Item contributes a score based on its Overall Rating and rarity. You can submit more lower rated Items, fewer higher rated Items, or a combination of both until you reach the required score.
Streamlined SBCs support partial submissions and duplicate Items. This means you can submit some Items, save your progress, and return later to complete the SBC. Multiple versions of the same Player Item, including duplicates, can contribute towards its target score.
Traditional SBCs continue to require a complete squad that meets criteria such as Chemistry, positions, Overall Rating, Nationalities, Leagues, Clubs, or Item types. These SBCs are primarily used for more complex Challenge SBCs.
Some SBCs are standalone, while others contain multiple segments. Certain challenges can be completed repeatedly, have a limited number of completions, refresh regularly, or remain available only for a specific period.

Squad Building Challenges are Ultimate Team activities in which you submit Player Items that meet specific conditions in exchange for rewards. FC 27 includes Streamlined SBCs, based on an Item score, and Traditional SBCs, which require you to build a complete squad.
Squad Building Challenges were released for the first time in FIFA 17. Since then, they have become very popular.
One purpose of the Squad Building Challenges mode is to encourage players to use cards they might not normally play with, helping them complete challenges and earn rewards along the way.
Everyone who owns an Ultimate Team Club is eligible to enter this game mode.
You can use your console, PC, or the Web/Companion App to complete challenges and earn in-game rewards.
Here are the steps to earn unique rewards in Squad Building Challenges:
- Check the Requirements
When starting a Squad Building Challenge, review the requirements listed on the right side of the screen. These must be met to earn the rewards. - Create a Squad
Build your squad using player cards from your club. You can also search the Transfer Market if necessary. Utilize unwanted cards for SBCs. Ensure your squad meets all specified requirements. Substitutes, reserves, and managers are not considered. In the case of streamlined SBCs you only have to choose players with enough SBC score. - Submit your Squad and Earn Rewards
Once you’ve confirmed that all requirements are met, submit your squad to receive special rewards.
In Football Club 27, SBCs are available from day one. They come in two types: permanent challenges, which can be completed at any time, and time-limited challenges, which must be submitted before their expiration date to earn rewards. If a time-limited SBC expires before submission, all players used in the squad are returned to your Club.
Streamlined SBCs are a new FC 27 format used primarily for Player and Upgrade SBCs. Instead of building a full squad, you submit eligible Player Items towards a target score. Each Item contributes according to its Overall Rating and rarity.
Traditional SBCs require you to build and submit a complete squad that meets specific conditions. Requirements can involve Chemistry, positions, Squad Rating, Nationalities, Leagues, Clubs, or particular Item types.
Streamlined SBCs use an Item score and do not require you to build a complete squad. They support partial submissions and multiple versions of the same Item, including duplicates. Traditional SBCs retain the squad building format and are primarily used for more complex, puzzle focused challenges.
EA uses the Streamlined format for the majority of Player and Upgrade SBCs. Traditional SBCs will continue to be used for more puzzle focused Challenge SBCs. The format is identified on each challenge.
Each eligible Player Item contributes a score based on its Overall Rating and rarity. Higher rated or rarer Items generally contribute more. You can reach the target by submitting more lower rated Items, fewer higher rated Items, or a combination of both.
No. Streamlined SBCs do not require you to build a full squad around Chemistry or positions. However, they may include other eligibility conditions, such as a minimum Overall Rating or a particular Item type.
Yes, Streamlined SBCs support partial progress. You can submit some Items and return later to complete the remaining score. Every partial submission is final.
Yes. Streamlined SBCs allow multiple versions of the same Player Item, including duplicates, to contribute towards the required score.
Streamlined SBCs usually require a target score and may also specify a minimum Overall Rating or eligible Item types. Traditional SBCs can include requirements related to Chemistry, positions, Squad Rating, Nationalities, Leagues, Clubs, and Item types.
If you receive a duplicate untradeable Player Item from a Pack, you can send it to SBC Storage instead of discarding it.
When assembling a squad for a challenge, you can access stored players by going to the SBC and selecting the Storage tab. If the tab doesn’t appear, it means there are no players currently in storage.

Users have a wide selection of dynamic scenarios to complete, which are grouped into a few categories, like Basic, Advanced, Upgrades, Live, Leagues, Marquee Matchups, POTM, Icons, Flashbacks, or Player Moments.
Foundation Challenges (former Basic Challenges) were designed to teach beginners how to submit SBCs. They are always available from the first day.
Advanced Challenges are designed for those looking to master SBCs. Completing them will reveal helpful strategies for tackling the most complex squad-building tasks.
Upgrade Challenges let you improve your squad by trading in unwanted players for higher-quality ones. These challenges usually focus on either quality upgrades (Bronze, Silver, and Gold) or league-specific upgrades. Quality upgrades are available from the start, whereas league upgrades appear only during limited-time events.
League Challenges are designed for you to complete a challenge for each club within a specific league or continental competition. They are available at select times from September to August.
Marquee Matchups are created to showcase the most important real-life fixtures of the upcoming week. Each week, four new regular MM challenges are released, alongside UEFA-specific challenges available at designated times.
Live Challenges are special, time-limited challenge groups released irregularly and available only for a set period. They may be tied to in-game campaigns or real-world football events throughout the Season.
Icons Challenges were designed to reward your effort with an Icon item. They are released at specific times from October to August.
Flashback Challenges are special SBCs that offer unique rewards celebrating a player’s standout past seasons. The items come with boosted stats that reflect the player’s performance during a memorable campaign. Released at specific times, these challenges are only available for a limited period.
Player Moments Challenges are special SBCs that grant unique items celebrating players’ milestones. These items highlight notable achievements of active players, such as key matches or important goals. Released at specific times, they are only available for a limited number of days.
POTM Challenges are special SBCs that reward players with unique items representing the Player of the Month winners from popular leagues, including the Premier League, Bundesliga, LaLiga, Ligue 1, Serie A, Liga F, and BWSL. These challenges are typically released monthly and remain available for only a few weeks.
While on the main Squad Building Challenges screen, you can press triangle (PlayStation) or Y (Xbox) to tag a specific group as your favorite.
Start with the Basic SBCs, as they are designed to introduce you to the fundamentals while providing valuable pack rewards. These packs can be sold, used in other SBCs, or strengthen your squad. Most early challenges are straightforward and can usually be completed with players already in your Club. If the Transfer Market is needed, the cost is generally low.
It’s easy. On your main Ultimate Team screen (home), a button, ‘Squad Building Challenges’, redirects you directly to the SBC main screen.
It depends. Most of the challenges can only be submitted once. However, you can submit a selection of SBCs as often as you want or a specific number of times.
When you first enter Squad Building Challenges, a tutorial will walk you through your initial challenge group. After completing it, you can explore and tackle the wide range of other challenges to continue progressing.
Please note this crucial detail: once player items are used in Squad Building Challenges, they cannot be recovered. Make your selections carefully, as all items submitted with your squad will be permanently forfeited.
You can use SBC Protection on players in your Club to prevent accidentally submitting important cards into a Squad Building Challenge. If you attempt to submit a protected player, a confirmation prompt will appear before you can proceed. There is also an option to hide Active Squad members from Club search results, simplifying squad building and completing SBCs.
Brick Slots are locked positions used in some Traditional SBCs. They may require an Item from a particular Club, League, Nation, position, or category.
No. Formations are locked for each challenge.
Completing Challenges and Groups grants access to various rewards. Individual challenges yield rewards such as packs, coins, player items, and kits, while completing groups unlocks even greater rewards, such as unique player items.
Depending on the challenge, they can be tradeable or not.
You receive the rewards as soon as you submit an individual challenge or complete a group of challenges.
Some Challenges are repeatable. Each time you submit the Squad, you have a chance to receive different rewards, but there is also a possibility of receiving a repeat reward.
Some FC SBCs consist of several challenges grouped together, known as Groups. Completing each challenge within a Group grants individual rewards, while finishing the entire Group unlocks bonus prizes. Completing multiple challenges in a set is therefore beneficial to claim these additional Group rewards.
Here are some tips to help you spend as little as possible when completing an SBC:
- Don’t Discard
Avoid discarding your bronze and silver player cards until you’ve completed the initial challenges. - Check the Chemistry
Use concept players, the companion app, or external squad builder websites if you’re unsure about your team’s chemistry. - Only Do the Minimum Requirement
Stick to the minimum requirements to unlock rewards—you don’t need to do more than necessary. - Avoid Sacrificing Good Cards
Try not to use high-value cards, as they can’t be retrieved unless found in packs or on the transfer market. Use unwanted cards to fill out your squad. - Focus on the Rating
Player stats don’t matter for SBCs, so use lower-rated players to save coins. Look for the cheapest players for each overall rating. - Don’t Copy Squads from Other Players
Avoid using squads from popular websites like FUTBin and FUTgg, as their prices tend to rise once widely followed. - Do Your Homework
Before starting a challenge, compare the cost of completing it with the value of the reward to assess whether it’s worth it.
An SBC Player Item is a special Item released as a reward for completing a specific Squad Building Challenge. SBC rewards are generally untradeable, although the conditions should always be checked in game.
