Co-Op Explained

Co-Op lets you join forces with a friend online to compete against other players in modes such as Division Rivals, Squad Battles, and selected Friendlies.

To start FC 27 Co-Op, add your friend to your list and invite them using the EA Social widget. One player serves as the captain, selecting the squad for the match. After the game, both participants receive rewards.
Frequently Asked Questions
Co-Op, introduced in FIFA 21, lets you team up with a friend online. Together, you can compete in Division Rivals against other solo players or duos, take on the AI in Squad Battles, or play Friendlies with House Rules and Public Co-Op matches against other players.
Invitations are made through the EA Connect widget. First, you need to add your friend to your list, and then you need to send an invite.
The player who creates the lobby becomes the Captain, controlling squad selection and the match’s game mode. In the lobby, both participants can see the Captain’s highest-rated players from their active squad. Once both players are ready, the Captain can launch the match in the selected mode.
CO-Op is available for both generations, but you won’t be able to play across console generations or cross-play in Football Club 27.
No, Co-Op does not support crossplay, even if the game mode itself does. You and your friend must play online together on the same console. For example, you cannot be on a Xbox One while they are on a Series X|S.
On the pre-match screen, you can see the connection bars of both connections (you and your friend).
Activating the FC Trainer in a Co-Op match shows both players’ inputs in real time. This helps teammates anticipate each other’s actions, enhancing coordination and teamwork. Visual cues allow for strategic play setups without depending only on voice communication.
FC 27 does not support sending game invites from Co-Op sessions, including Friendlies. This means you cannot choose specific friends as opponents; you will always be matched with random players.
Yes. A toggle lets you choose between a mix of solo players and Co-Op groups in your matches or just vs. solo players.
Playing online cooperatively with friends is only possible in Squad Battles, Rivals, and Friendlies. You cannot play CO-Op on Champions or Draft.
In Friendlies, you can join forces with a friend and use in-game matchmaking to find opponents in any standard Friendlies mode. Matches follow the chosen ruleset, and rewards are identical to playing solo. It’s an ideal way to test different player combinations, refine team strategies, and enhance coordination in a low-pressure setting.

Co-Op Public Matchmaking is a Friendlies mode in FC Ultimate Team that offers a relaxed, drop-in experience, letting you team up with a new partner to face other Co-Op players.

In Online Friendlies, this mode directs you to a team selection screen featuring pre-made squads. Instead of using your own UT squad, you play with unique squads that are regularly rotated.

This approach prevents conflicts when both Co-Op partners want to use their squads, while giving you the chance to test top players. Squads also include recently released Player Items, keeping the matches balanced and fresh.
For Rivals specifically, matchmaking will be done using the divisions of the duo. In Public Co-Op, you will play against players who picked the same preferred squad.
When selecting a Squad, the system first searches for a partner who wants to use the same Squad. If none is found, the search expands to include partners using any available Squad. If all options are considered, the Squad choice becomes randomized, so you may end up using a different Squad if the partner search takes longer. Once a partner is found, the system pairs you with another Co-Op duo, each using pre-made Squads for the match. If a suitable match still cannot be found, the search extends to players in Co-Op Friendlies and, if necessary, further expands to an Online Friendly Classic Match, where you may play in a 2v1 setup.
In Squad Battles and Rivals, each player receives coins according to the match result, calculated with the standard in-game system. In Co-Op Friendlies, rewards are identical to those earned when playing Friendlies solo.
