FC 26 PASSING
Learn how to pass and cross in Football Club 26.
Passing
Passing and crossing are fundamental parts of your team’s attacking strategy in Football Club 27.
Passing allows you to retain possession, control the tempo of the match and move defenders out of position. Combining short passes with through balls, lob passes and more direct deliveries can create space and open routes towards goal.
Crossing provides another way to attack from wide positions. In FC 27, crosses are delivered into space more often instead of being heavily assisted towards a specific player. Your aim and the amount of power applied therefore have a greater influence on where the ball lands.
To perform a pass or cross, press X, Square or Triangle on PlayStation, or A, X or Y on Xbox, depending on the type of delivery. Use the Left Stick to select its direction.
The amount of power depends on how long you hold the button. A short press is suitable for a nearby teammate, while a longer press sends the ball farther and generally faster. Applying too much power can make the pass difficult to control or send it beyond the intended receiver.
FC 27 gives players more responsibility when using passes into space. Ground and Lobbed Through Passes follow your directional input more strictly instead of being redirected towards a more favourable passing lane. This means that accurate aiming, suitable power and careful observation of the receiver’s movement are particularly important.
Ground and Through Dinked Passes are also fully manual in FC 27. Their direction and power depend heavily on your input, providing greater creative freedom but making inaccurate attempts easier to intercept.
Mastering passing and crossing requires more than learning the controls. You must recognise available space, consider the movement of your teammates and select the most appropriate delivery for each situation.
Crossing and Passing Types
FC 27 offers several passing and crossing techniques that can be used to retain possession, escape pressure or create scoring opportunities.
Ground Pass
A Ground Pass sends the ball along the surface towards a teammate. It is the safest option over short and medium distances, although its success still depends on direction, power, player Attributes and defensive pressure. Driven and Lofted Ground Passes provide alternatives for moving the ball with additional speed or lifting it above a nearby challenge.
Flair Pass
A Flair Pass requests a more creative passing animation when the player’s position and ability allow it. This may result in a backheel, an outside foot pass or another unconventional delivery. Flair Passes can disguise your intention, but they are generally riskier than conventional passes.
Precision Pass
A Precision Pass provides greater manual control over the direction of the ball. Rather than automatically selecting the safest route towards a teammate, it allows you to target a specific area of the pitch. This can be useful for passing into open space, but poor aim or excessive power will produce an inaccurate delivery.
Through Pass
A Through Pass sends the ball into space ahead of an attacker. In FC 27, Ground and Lobbed Through Passes follow your directional input more strictly, providing less assistance when steering the ball towards open lanes. Read the attacker’s movement and aim towards the space they are approaching rather than their current position.
Lob Pass
A Lob Pass sends the ball through the air and can be used to bypass nearby opponents or switch play. The amount of power determines its distance, while the passer’s Long Passing and Vision Attributes influence the quality of the delivery.
Cross
A Cross delivers the ball from a wide or advanced position into a dangerous area. In FC 27, crosses are directed into space more often and are less likely to lock directly onto an attacker. Aim and power have a greater influence on the destination, so an imprecise cross may travel beyond every available receiver.
