FC 27 PACK CHANCES
Pack weight and pack chances refer to the hidden probabilities that determine how likely you are to pull high-rated players or rare items from FUT packs.
FC 27 Pack Odds
In FIFA 19, EA made a major move by revealing the odds of acquiring highly rated players in every pack available in the Ultimate Team Store. This transparency aimed to give players insight into the probabilities, commonly referred to as pack weight, associated with their pack purchases and the rarity of certain Player Items. By disclosing these pack probabilities, EA intended to help players make informed decisions about how they invest their FC Points, Coins and time in building their Ultimate Team.
To view these pack odds, go to the Store, select the pack you want to inspect and open the Pack Probabilities screen. The displayed percentages represent the minimum probability of obtaining one or more Player Items within a specific rating range or category. For example, a category and rating with a 100% probability guarantees at least one eligible Item within that category.
It is important to note that these probability percentages are specific to each pack and are not cumulative. Each pack opening is an independent event, meaning the chance of receiving an Item from a specific category remains the same regardless of the number of packs opened. EA calculates the displayed probabilities through simulations involving a large number of pack openings for each Store Pack. These probabilities can be updated when the available Item pool changes, particularly during campaigns.
Despite revealing pack odds, EA has faced regulatory challenges in several countries. FC Points are not available for purchase in Belgium and South Korea, while the wider debate over loot box transparency and gambling regulation continues.
Probability
The introduction of Pack Odds marked a major step toward transparency in FIFA and FC, yet many players still want deeper insights into Pack Chances. Imagine knowing exactly how likely it is to pack an ICON or a specific player, or calculating how much you might need to spend to obtain a particular card. It is an appealing idea, but it is not fully possible because EA does not release all the necessary data.
To understand the gap in information, consider this example. During a special event, a Players Pack may show a 2.9% chance of containing at least one Special Player Item. At first glance, you might assume that about 34 packs would be enough, since 1 ÷ 0.029 ≈ 34. This number represents an average expectation, but it does not guarantee results.
To make this clearer, think about the probability of not getting the Item at all. The chance of failing to pull a Special Player Item in a single pack is 97.1%. If you open 34 packs, the probability of never obtaining one is 0.97134, roughly 35%. This means there is actually a 65% chance of getting at least one Special Player Item after opening 34 packs. To reach a 90% chance of success, you would need to open about 79 packs. This shows that the average number of packs is only a guideline, and individual luck can result in getting an Item much sooner or much later.
Even when focusing on a specific top tier player, the situation becomes more complex. Imagine a pack with 12 Player Item slots drawn from a pool of around 1,000 eligible Gold Players. If all players had equal pack weight, the simple estimate of obtaining a particular player would be close to 12 ÷ 1,000 = 1.2%. In reality, top players are rarer than others, which means their true Pack Chance is significantly lower. Without access to the exact weights of individual cards, it is impossible to calculate precise odds for a particular star.
These calculations provide helpful benchmarks, but they cannot guarantee results. Some players may hit the jackpot in just a few packs, while others may go through many more without receiving a top player. Pack Odds make it easier to understand probabilities, but the lack of full transparency keeps Ultimate Team Packs unpredictable and exciting. They illustrate how mathematics can guide expectations, yet luck always plays a central role in the outcome of each pack.
Transparency
EA still needs to enhance its transparency regarding FC 27 Pack Odds. The current probabilities provide useful information, but they reveal only part of the picture. Here is what we believe EA should implement in future editions:
- Include Pack Odds for All Packs
Odds should be disclosed for every pack whose contents are not fully known in advance, including eligible packs in [My Packs], not just Store Packs. If EA is committed to voluntary disclosure, it should apply as consistently as possible. - Provide Pack Odds for More Rating Ranges
Transparency demands greater detail. Instead of only showing a small selection of rating thresholds, packs should reveal the probability of receiving Player Items across more rating ranges. - Specify Exact Pack Odds
Any pack odds below 1% should be displayed with precision, ideally with two decimal places. Rather than vaguely stating “less than 1%”, EA could specify the exact disclosed value, such as 0.25%. - Reveal Each Card’s Weight
Although this would represent the highest level of transparency, it is unlikely EA will disclose individual Player Item weights. Still, doing so would clarify the rarity of top players and show whether the drop rates of individual cards change when the available Item pool changes.
