Introduction to the FUT 14 Serie A Guide

Building a team is the biggest challenge in FIFA 14 Ultimate Team. It doesn’t need to be the best team, even because the budget may not allow it, but it needs to be the player’s stature for him to obtain success.

When choosing which players to play with, you will have to look carefully at their attributes. Choosing a team based on ratings is one of the most common mistakes on FUT 14. It’s precisely this aspect that this guide focuses on. For each position, and focusing on the truly important attributes, we’ll show who are the best athletes to choose.

It’s also important that the player checks to see if the player he chooses fits the formations he likes to play in. For example, a good full back will be useless if the player only uses formations with three defenders. According to those formations, the player must be cautious to look at the work rates, trying to relate them with the ones we advise in our Formations Guide.

Last but not least, it’s mandatory that you tune all of your team so that the individual and team chemistry be as high possible. For this last step to be easier, the majority of the players start to define the type of team they’re building. Some choose gathering players of the same nationality, while others decide to form a team of players from the same league. The most popular leagues are the Brazilians and the Barclays Premier League. There are also more experienced players that can form hybrid teams without damaging the chemistry a lot.

All of these steps are necessary to have; it could be that the team is not always well built as it could’ve been. This article aims to help those that think or want to form a FIFA 14 Ultimate Team based on players from the Serie A. Even the ones have one, could take out some valuable conclusion from this guide that could help turn your team even better.

It’s important that the readers understand that this guide is simply guidance. It’s a theme too vast and the player’s combinations are almost infinite. Besides, there are various factors that influence the choices, like it’s one’s style of play, the formations used, the available budget, the preferences or even the time spent playing. There’s still one uncertain component: a good player for someone might not be for another. If there was a better team everyone would fight to get it. Part of the fun of FIFA 14 Ultimate Team is this: everyone has their personal club and players.

Another important point and that must stay very clear is that whoever is reading this guide, it’s about some criteria we chose and should be of everyone’s knowledge:

  • Only Gold Players
    • In this guide we didn’t consider silver or bronze player. Most players don’t assume them to be a better option than gold players, so to simplify the guide’s analysis we didn’t include them. In the future we may come to publish guides exclusively talking about these categories.
  • Only Regular Players
    • In this guide we didn’t consider In Forms (IF). They’re extremely expensive and in most cases are not considered good value for money. They should only be used by players with generous budgets, that already have the best team possible and that want small upgrades.
  • Only Normal Players
    • In this guide we didn’t consider players that have been transferred to other clubs or that have been reviewed (UP). Only players that started their season in the Serie A and with their original attributes were considered.
  • Only Original Attributes
    • In this guide we didn’t consider changes made on a players performance such happens when applying training or chemistry styles cards.
  • Position analysis
    • To make the comprehension of this guide easier we divided the players in nine distinct groups in order of their original position: Goalkeeper (GK), central backs (CB), right backs (RB and RWB), left backs (LB and LWB), central defensive midfielders (CDM) central midfielders (CM and CAM), right midfielders (RM, RW and RF), left midfielders (LM, LW and LF) and forwards (CF and ST).
  • Prices at the date of publication of the guide
    • In the chapter where FIFA 14 Ultimate Team Serie A teams are suggested, the prices considered are the ones of the date of the guide’s publication: February 2014. It’s natural that the prices have suffered some oscillations throughout the season, so they should only be considered as guiding prices.

    Serie A

The Serie A is one of the most competitive leagues of the world, but the football is not as spectacular as it is in UK, Spain or Germany.

The qualification of the champion is made through the made points system. Whichever team gathers the most points wins the league. The first three classified gain access to the champions league of the next year, while the fourth and fifth qualify to the Europa League and the last three trade places with the first three qualified of the Serie B. Every season starts in September and finishes in May, having 38 game weeks with ten matches each, being a total of 380 matches per season.

The Serie A is the fourth best league classified in the UEFA league coefficients.

Started in 1898, the Italian league has been conquered by sixteen clubs. The dominant club is Juventus, with a total of 31 titles. AC Milan (18), Inter (18) and Genova (9) are the other teams that won more titles.

As to last season, the Serie A lost some good players such as Kevin Prince-Boateng (Schalke 04), Taiwo (Bursaspor), Bojan (Barcelona), Lamela (Tottenham), Oswaldo (Southampton), Konate (Lleida Esportiu), Marquinhos (Paris Saint Germain), Sissoko (Paris Saint Germain), Jovetic (Manchester City), Sebastian Frey (Bursaspor), Anelka (West Bromwich Albion) and Felipe Melo (Galatasaray). But, the biggest out transfer was the move of Cavani from Nápoles to Paris Saint Germain by 64 million Euros.

These transfers didn’t necessarily make the Serie A weaker. The Italians teams spent many million Euros on strong reinforcements: Gervinho (Roma), Konaté (Roma), Maicon (Roma), Anderson (Fiorentina), Mario Gómez (Fiorentina), Llorente (Juventus), D. Mertens (Nápoles) and Jadson (Udinese). But the biggest signings of the season happened in Milan and Turim. Kaka and Carlos Tévez joined to Serie A by only 12 million Euros.

The choices are a lot for which our guide will certainly be useful as to building a team with players from this league. Serie A is a good choice to who is looking for quality players, but don’t have a large budget. There is no many choices, but the players of Serie A are probably the best value for money.

FUT 14 Serie A Goalkeepers (GK)

Goalkeepers are the players that are less used on field. Because of this they are also the disdained when building a team. Most players start their purchases with a forward, later they strengthen the midfield the defence and only later the goal. The truth is a good goalkeeper may be worth a lot of goals. It’s good investment because they’re normally the most economically accessible players.

Gianluigi Buffon is the more popular goalkeeper from Serie A. To come gamers, he is the best FUT 14 goalkeeper. Only Handanovic and Marchetti have a rating that can be compared. For having the best rating they are also the most searched by this league’s teams so they’re more expensive.

    MOST HIGH-RATED GOALKEEPERS
    Gianluigi Buffon 86 Italy Juventus
    Federico Marchetti 84 Italy Lazio
    Samir Handanovic 84 Slovenia Inter
    José Reina 83 Spain Napoli
Morgan De Sanctis 81 Italy Roma
    Christian Abbiati 80 Italy Milan
    Andrea Consigli 80 Italy Atalanta
    Marco Storari 78 Italy Juventus
    Željko Brkic 77 Serbia Udinese
    Rafael 77 Brazil Napoli

When choosing a good goalkeeper it’s not only down to his rating. There are two fundamental attributes for choosing a good goalkeeper: reflexes and diving.

The first measures a goalkeeper’s agility when making a save. The best on this aspect are Marchetti and Handanovic. Buffon is one of the Serie A goalkeepers with worse reflexes.

    GOALKEEPERS WITH BEST REFLEXES
    Federico Marchetti 89 Italy Lazio
    Samir Handanovic 88 Slovenia Inter
    Andrea Consigli 86 Italy Atalanta
    José Reina 84 Spain Napoli
    Christian Abbiati 84 Italy Milan
Nikolay Mihaylov 84 Bulgaria Hellas Verona
    Michael Agazzi 84 Italy Cagliari
    Rafael 83 Brazil Napoli
Juan Pablo Carrizo 82 Argentina Inter
    Mattia Perin 82 Italy Genoa

Diving is a fundamental attribute when choosing a goalkeeper. It measures the capacity for a goalkeeper to make a save when jumping.

In the world, only Diego Alves has a diving as good as Buffon has. Marchetti is another goalkeeper with a great diving.

    GOALKEEPER WITH BEST DIVING
    Gianluigi Buffon 90 Italy Juventus
    Federico Marchetti 87 Italy Lazio
    Samir Handanovic 87 Slovenia Inter
    Christian Abbiati 84 Italy Milan
    Željko Brkic 84 Serbia Udinese
    José Reina 83 Spain Napoli
Morgan De Sanctis 82 Italy Roma
    Andrea Consigli 82 Italy Atalanta
    Rafael 82 Brazil Napoli
    Marco Storari 80 Italy Juventus

The most experienced Ultimate Team players know that another leaning factor on a goalkeeper’s performance without considering the remaining four attributes: height. The more tall a goalkeeper is, better his chances of having a clean sheet.

This is Marchetti’s weak point. Even though he can’t be considered a short goalkeeper, the truth is he’s 6 cm shorter than Željko Brkic, Nikolay Mihaylov and Mariano Andújar, the tallest gold goalkeepers of Serie A

    TALLEST GOALKEEPERS
    Željko Brkic 194 Serbia Udinese
Nikolay Mihaylov 194 Bulgaria Hellas Verona
    Mariano Andújar 194 Argentina Catania
    Samir Handanovic 193 Slovenia Inter
    Antonio Mirante 193 Italy Parma
    Gianluigi Buffon 191 Italy Juventus
    Christian Abbiati 191 Italy Milan
Morgan De Sanctis 190 Italy Roma
    Marco Amelia 190 Italy Milan
    Andrea Consigli 189 Italy Atalanta

The choice for the best Serie A goalkeeper on FIFA 14 Ultimate team, is easy.

In our opinion, Gianluigi Buffon is still the best choice. Besides being the best with one of the two most important attributes, he’s also who has the best positioning in the whole game. For us, Handanovic is the best alternative to the Italian Champion. Marchetti is very similar to him, but the Slovenian GK is 5 cm taller.

For those who want a cheap goalkeeper, Hosé Reina is a great choice. He is not as good as the three best Serie A goalkeepers but he is cheap to the quality he has.

FUT 14 Serie A Central Backs (CB)

A goalkeepers task is made easier if in front of him are quality central backs. Their function is to stop the opponent from getting dangerously close to your team’s goal.

Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli are the central backs with the best reputation in the Serie A. No other players can be compared to them.

    HIGHEST RATED CENTRAL BACKS
    Giorgio Chiellini 86 Italy Juventus
    Andrea Barzagli 84 Italy Juventus
    Walter Samuel 82 Argentina Inter
    Medhi Benatia 82 Morocco Roma
    Hugo Campagnaro 82 Argentina Inter
    Philippe Mexès 81 France Milan
    Nicolás Spolli 80 Argentina Catania
    Maurizio Domizzi 80 Italy Udinese
    Angelo Ogbonna 80 Italy Juventus
    Danilo 80 Brazil Udinese

On a central back, two attributes assume particular importance on their performance: defending and heading.

A player with better defending will have an easier chance of dispossessing the opponent and avoid him reaching your box.

It’s the case of the best rated player: Giorgio Chiellini. It’s really hard to get past him. The most experienced players are normally those who have a higher rating on this attribute. Walter Samuel proves this.

    CENTRAL BACKS WITH BETTER DEFENDING
    Walter Samuel 87 Argentina Inter
    Giorgio Chiellini 86 Italy Juventus
    Andrea Barzagli 86 Italy Juventus
    Medhi Benatia 84 Morocco Roma
    Hugo Campagnaro 84 Argentina Inter
    Nicolás Spolli 83 Argentina Catania
    Maurizio Domizzi 82 Italy Udinese
    Angelo Ogbonna 82 Italy Juventus
    Danilo 82 Brazil Udinese
    Andrea Ranocchia 82 Italy Inter

On a game partially made difficult on stopping an opponent’s header in our box, possessing good heading is even more important on a central back than it was before. Allow him to be superior in your box when defending air balls but it’s also worth it on set pieces, like corners where a central backs jump may just be worth some goals.

In this chapter Leonardo Bonucci and Matías Silvestre are the strongest ones, both with great jumping stat. In the other hand, Andrea Ranocchia is the tallest CB of Serie A but he is also one of the players with worse heading

    CENTRAL BACKS WITH BETTER HEADING
    Leonardo Bonucci 84 Italy Juventus
    Matías Silvestre 83 Italy Milan
    Giorgio Chiellini 82 Italy Juventus
    Philippe Mexès 82 France Milan
    Paolo Cannavaro 82 Italy Napoli
    Stefan Savic 82 Montenegro Fiorentina
    Nicolás Spolli 81 Argentina Catania
    Gabriel Paletta 81 Argentina Parma
    Nicolás Burdisso 81 Argentina Roma
    Nicola Legrottaglie 81 Italy Catania

Defending and heading may be useless against fast opponents. It’s necessary to fight fire with fire. No likes feeling impotent when seeing you get overrun by extremely fast players. Even though, in a way, centre backs aren’t that fast, every team needs one of these players with a high pace attribute.

Chiellini is the best central back from Serie A. Barzagli is also very popular but he is much more slow. For that reason, Martín Cáceres and Angelo Ogbonna may be good alternatives to the Italian player.

    CENTRAL BACKS WITH BETTER PACE
    Martín Cáceres 81 Uruguay Juventus
    Juan Jesus 79 Brazil Inter
    Giorgio Chiellini 77 Italy Juventus
    Angelo Ogbonna 77 Italy Juventus
    Alessandro Gamberini 75 Italy Genoa
    Federico Peluso 74 Italy Juventus
    Medhi Benatia 73 Morocco Roma
    Cristian Zapata 73 Colombia Milan
    Leonardo Bonucci 72 Italy Juventus
    Nenad Tomovic 72 Serbia Fiorentina

Chiellini intercepts everything that is at his reach. His place in any Serie A based squad is unquestionable.

Benefiting from their popularity and their characteristic for a good chemistry, Barzagli come up as being one of the first choices for teams based on the main Italian League. He is without a doubt a good player for this position but there are other cheaper and faster solutions. Like, Martín Cáceres, Angelo Ogbonna and Medhi Benatia, the central backs with best average between the three most important attributes we considered (excepting Chiellini).

FUT 14 Serie A Right Backs (RB and RWB)

Full backs have the role of troubling the mission of the wingers. Not only. In addition, good full backs also support their team mates on offensive maneuvers.

Maicon, Abate and Konko are the three best players in a position that Serie A doesn’t have many good choices.

    HIGHEST RATED RIGHT BACKS
    Abdoulay Konko 79 France Lazio
    Ignazio Abate 78 Italy Milan
    Maicon 78 Brazil Roma
Mattia De Sciglio 77 Italy Milan
    Vassilis Torosidis 76 Greece Roma

There are very important attributes in any right back: defending and pace.

Since they’re defenders they should have good defending capacities. This reduces a team’s risk of conceding.

Maicon is the players that best fits this aspect. The only other players that offer any type of competition is Konko.

    RIGHT BACKS WITH BETTER DEFENDING
    Maicon 79 Brazil Roma
    Abdoulay Konko 77 France Lazio
Mattia De Sciglio 74 Italy Milan
    Vassilis Torosidis 74 Greece Roma
    Ignazio Abate 73 Italy Milan

A flanked game tends to be faster than a game based in the middle of the field. The players that fill these spaces are obligated to be fast, both penetrating defensive and attacking moves of the team. Pace is one of the most important requirements for a good full back.

Between all of the right backs of FUT 14, Abate is clearly the fastest one. This is the weakest point of Maicon, the fourth fastest Serie A Right Back.

    RIGHT BACKS WITH BETTER PACE
    Ignazio Abate 93 Italy Milan
    Abdoulay Konko 86 France Lazio
Mattia De Sciglio 84 Italy Milan
    Maicon 79 Brazil Roma
    Vassilis Torosidis 76 Greece Roma

Abate and Maicon are undoubtedly the best right backs playing on Serie A. The Italian player is faster and more attacking. Maicon has the best passing and shooting but he is better on the defence also thanks to his strength. If you don’t have enough coins to buy any of these two players, choose Abdoulay Konko.

Best FUT 14 Serie A Left Backs (LB e LWB)

Left backs have exactly the same role of their team mates on the other flank. In other words, they try to make a winger’s job hard and participate on the team’s offensive manoeuvres.

There are only two gold players on Serie A for this position: Kévin Constant and Stefan Radu

    HIGHEST RATED LEFT BACKS
    Kévin Constant 78 Guinea Milan
    Stefan Radu 78 Romania Lazio

From these two players, Radu is the one who has better defending stats.

    LEFT BACKS WITH BETTER DEFENDING
    Stefan Radu 82 Romania Lazio
    Kévin Constant 77 Guinea Milan

If it is true that Radu is better on the defence, it is also true that Kévin Constant is faster.

    LEFT BACKS WITH BETTER PACE
    Kévin Constant 83 Guinea Milan
    Stefan Radu 78 Romania Lazio

The two gold left backs from Serie A are too different from each other. The attributes and the work rates show that Kévin Constant is more attacking and Stefan Radu is more defensive. The right choice depends of what kind of player are you looking for your team. For us, the AC Milan player is the best one. If you want more alternatives, you can try Criscito on Serie A team.

Best FUT 14 Serie A Defensive Midfielder (CDM)

Many of the FIFA 14 Ultimate Team formations require some midfielders that have a natural aptitude to defend. Central defensive midfielders distinguish themselves for being especially aimed to help the more retreated line of their teams. According to their attributes and their work rates, they can also be useful for starting attacks. They are players that occupy a very strategic position in the field.

The supremacy of Daniele De Rossi over all other Serie A central defensive midfielders is extremely clear.

    HIGHEST RATED CENTRAL DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDERS
Daniele De Rossi 84 Italy Roma
Nigel de Jong 79 Netherlands Milan
    Esteban Cambiasso 78 Argentina Inter
    Walter Gargano 77 Uruguay Parma
    Massimo Ambrosini 76 Italy Fiorentina

There are a variety of attributes in a central defensive midfielder that you have to give attention: defending, so that the first defender of team works; strength, so that you win all brawls on a prone area of the field; heading, to win possession in aerial moves like goal kicks; pace, so that you cover the most terrain on the field as possible; stamina, so they can equally participate in offensive a defensive moves (especially useful for players with high/high work rates); passing and possession so that he can properly start attacks. In our opinion the two first are the most important.

Normally using a central defensive midfielder is associated with having a deficit of elements in your defence. So, it makes sense that when you search for a player to occupy this position you’d want players that can defend.

The CDM with best defending stats is Daniele De Rossi. Beisdes that, only Ambrosini has a better heading than him, so he is a really good choice for teams that want to complicate an opponent’s game in the space between the midfield and the defence.

CENTRAL DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDERS WITH BETTER DEFENDING
Daniele De Rossi 83 Italy Roma
Nigel de Jong 81 Netherlands Milan
    Massimo Ambrosini 79 Italy Fiorentina
    Esteban Cambiasso 78 Argentina Inter
    Walter Gargano 76 Uruguay Parma

The area of the field occupied by the central defensive midfielders is the one where most ball dispute happen. Strong players will have a higher probability of winning the ball.

There’s not much of muscle between the central defensive midfielders of Serie A. Once again, Daniele De Rossi is the one that stands out. On the other hand there’s Walter Gargano. The Parma’s player rarely wins a physical brawl due to being the weakest central defensive midfielder from the main Italian League.

    STRONGEST CENTRAL DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDERS
Daniele De Rossi 83 Italy Roma
    Massimo Ambrosini 78 Italy Fiorentina
    Zdravko Kuzmanovic 76 Serbia Inter
Nigel de Jong 75 Netherlands Milan
    Esteban Cambiasso 74 Argentina Inter

Daniele De Rossi is our first choice for this position. He is the best defensive midfielder on the most important attributes. He is also the best in four of the six main attributes and the second best on the other two.

Esteban Cambiasso is our economic choice.

Best FUT 14 Serie A Central Midfielders (CM e CAM)

A lot of games are decided on the midfield and not close to the goals. The players that play in these zones are the ones that should create the game and define its rhythm.

There is many quality in the Serie A midfield. Some of the best footballers of this league play in this position. It’s the case of Pirlo and Vidal.

    HIGHEST RATED CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS
    Andrea Pirlo 86 Italy Juventus
    Arturo Vidal 85 Chile Juventus
    Riccardo Montolivo 84 Italy Milan
    Claudio Marchisio 84 Italy Juventus
    Marek Hamšik 84 Slovakia Napoli
    Alessandro Diamanti 83 Italy Bologna
    Hernanes 83 Brazil Lazio
    Borja Valero 82 Spain Fiorentina
    Kaká 82 Brazil Milan
    Fredy Guarín 81 Colombia Inter

Central midfielders are responsible for discovering lines that break the opponents defence. Their passing quality has to be really good so they can assist forwards.

Even though Montolivo and Pizarro are on the top table of the players with best passing skills, Pirlo is who stands out by being who does it better. In the whole world, only Xavi is better than him.

    CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS WITH BETTER PASSING
    Andrea Pirlo 91 Italy Juventus
    Riccardo Montolivo 87 Italy Milan
    David Pizarro 87 Chile Fiorentina
    Borja Valero 86 Spain Fiorentina
    Francesco Lodi 86 Italy Genoa
    Alessandro Diamanti 85 Italy Bologna
    Luca Cigarini 85 Italy Atalanta
    Alberto Aquilani 84 Italy Fiorentina
    Jaime Valdés 84 Chile Parma
    Claudio Marchisio 83 Italy Juventus

Hernanes has the best dribbling of Serie A. On Italy, only Kaka e Diamanti can be compared with him in this aspect.

    CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS WITH BETTER DRIBBLING
    Hernanes 86 Brazil Lazio
    Alessandro Diamanti 84 Italy Bologna
    Kaká 84 Brazil Milan
    Claudio Marchisio 83 Italy Juventus
    Fredy Guarín 83 Colombia Inter
    Ederson 83 Brazil Lazio
    Andrea Pirlo 82 Italy Juventus
    Arturo Vidal 82 Chile Juventus
    Marek Hamšik 82 Slovakia Napoli
    David Pizarro 82 Chile Fiorentina

Pirlo is the best midfielder of Serie A. His ball control, long passing and vision are simply amazing. His only problem is to be a slow player. Vidal is the most popular alternative. He is fast, very balanced and can play very well as a CDM. He has a stamina of 93 which is great for a payer with a work rate high/high. Marchisio and Guarin are players not much different from the Chilean player but with worse defending stats. Hernanes and Hamsik are the right choices for who needs an attacking midfielder.

Our cheapest choice falls to Diamanti and David Pizarro. Excepting Pirlo, they are the two best players on the stats we consider more important.

Serie A Right Wingers (RM, RW e RF)

The wingers are responsible for giving game width in the attack. They’re normally very explosive players.

Candreva and Joaquín are the most popular right wings from Serie A but it doesn’t means that they are the best ones.

    HIGHEST RATED RIGHT WINGERS
    Antonio Candreva 82 Italy Lazio
    Joaquín 82 Spain Fiorentina
    Juan Cuadrado 81 Colombia Fiorentina
    Alessio Cerci 81 Italy Torino
    Jonathan Biabiany 80 France Parma
    Christian Maggio 79 Italy Napoli
    Simone Pepe 78 Italy Juventus
    Stephan Lichtsteiner 78 Switzerland Juventus
    Dušan Basta 78 Serbia Udinese
    Pablo Barrientos 78 Argentina Catania

There are three fundamental attribute on a winger: pace, dribbling and passing.

Pace is probably the biggest weapon of these players. They use it to evade opponents and getting to the other side, many times through sprints on the side lines.

Among all FUT 14 players, only Walcott and Mathis Bolly have better pace than Biabiany. There are two other right midfielders with a pace over 90.

    FASTEST RIGHT WINGERS
    Jonathan Biabiany 96 France Parma
    Juan Cuadrado 93 Colombia Fiorentina
    José Callejón 90 Spain Napoli
    M’Baye Niang 86 Senegal Milan
    Antonio Candreva 84 Italy Lazio
    Alessio Cerci 84 Italy Torino
    Simone Pepe 84 Italy Juventus
    Christian Maggio 83 Italy Napoli
    Stephan Lichtsteiner 83 Switzerland Juventus
    Mauricio Isla 81 Chile Juventus

Just being fast doesn’t cut it to reach the opponents box, having good dribbling to surpass the opponents’ players that appear on the way.

The two players with higher ratings are also the ones with best dribbling: Joaquín and Candreva.

    RIGHT WINGERS WITH BETTER DRIBLLING
    Joaquín 87 Spain Fiorentina
    Juan Cuadrado 87 Colombia Fiorentina
    Pablo Barrientos 85 Argentina Catania
    Antonio Candreva 84 Italy Lazio
    Alessio Cerci 84 Italy Torino
    Jonathan Biabiany 83 France Parma
    M’Baye Niang 81 Senegal Milan
    Simone Pepe 80 Italy Juventus
    Javier Zanetti 79 Argentina Inter
    Dušan Basta 78 Serbia Udinese

When reaching the opponents box the winger has to decide what to do. Normally, they choose to cross to the forwards. That is why it’s important for them to have good passing.

Joaquín and Cuadrado are the players with better passing but the Spanish player is better on crossings. José Callejón, for example, could’ve been an option to consider filling this slot in virtue of his fantastic pace, but he’s affected negatively for missing frequently passes to his more forward team mates.

    RIGHT WINGERS WITH BETTER PASSING
    Joaquín 84 Spain Fiorentina
    Antonio Candreva 82 Italy Lazio
    Alessio Cerci 81 Italy Torino
    Christian Maggio 81 Italy Napoli
    Javier Zanetti 80 Argentina Inter
    Pablo Barrientos 79 Argentina Catania
    Stephan Lichtsteiner 78 Switzerland Juventus
    Dušan Basta 78 Serbia Udinese
    Mauricio Isla 77 Chile Juventus
Boško Jankovic 77 Serbia Hellas Verona

Juan Cuadrado is clearly the most indicated player to occupy this position in a Serie A team. He is really fast, has a good passing and his dribbling is great.

Biabiany is, to us, the second best right midfielder. His passing and dribbling are not so good, but his pace is something unbelievable. If you don’t need someone so fast, you can try Candreva.

Joaquín is our economic choice. He is a slow player but in the others stats he is as good as the better ones.

Serie A Left Wingers (LM, LW e LF)

The left wingers have exactly the same role as their team mates from the other side.

El Shaarawy and Totti are the most popular left midfielders of Serie A.

    HIGHEST RATED LEFT WINGERS
    Francesco Totti 82 Italy Roma
Stephan El Shaarawy 81 Italy Milan
    Dries Mertens 80 Belgium Napoli
    Kwadwo Asamoah 80 Ghana Juventus
Juan Camilo Zúñiga 79 Colombia Napoli
    Gervinho 79 Ivory Coast Roma
Senad Lulic 79 Bosnia Herzegovina Lazio
    Giacomo Bonaventura 79 Italy Atalanta
    Pablo Armero 78 Colombia Napoli
    Álvaro Pereira 78 Uruguay Inter

Pablo Armero is the only left midfielder of Serie A that can reaches the pace of 90. The player with highest rating is also the one with worse pace: Totti.

    LEFT WINGERS WITH BETTER PACE
    Pablo Armero 90 Colombia Napoli
Juan Camilo Zúñiga 88 Colombia Napoli
    Gervinho 88 Ivory Coast Roma

    Kwadwo Asamoah 83 Ghana Juventus
    Giacomo Bonaventura 82 Italy Atalanta
    Álvaro Pereira 81 Uruguay Inter

The four players with highest ratings are the ones with best dribbling.

    LEFT WINGERS WITH BETTER DRIBBLING

    Sebastián Leto 82 Argentina Catania
    Giacomo Bonaventura 81 Italy Atalanta
    Mario Santana 81 Argentina Genoa
Senad Lulic 79 Bosnia Herzegovina Lazio

Totti is clearly the best fitted passer between the remaining left wingers. No one can be compared with him.

    LEFT WINGERS WITH BETTER PASSING
    Francesco Totti 88 Italy Roma

    Pablo Armero 77 Colombia Napoli
    Manuel Pasqual 77 Italy Fiorentina
    Yuto Nagatomo 76 Japan Inter

Totti has amazing stats but he is too slow to play on this position. In our opinion, Stephan El Shaarawy is the best left midfielder of Serie A.

For those that don’t want to pay as many coins for the Milan’s winger, Kwadwo Asamoah is a good alternative, specially for who is looking for a player that attacks but also defends.

Our cheap suggestion is Pablo Armero. Only Zúñiga and El Shaarawy can be better than him on the average of the three most important attributes in a player of this position.

Serie A Forwards (CF e ST)

The forwards are the players on which fall the most responsibility of scoring goals.

There are many good forwards on Serie A.

    HIGHEST RATED FORWARDS
    Carlos Tévez 86 Argentina Juventus
    Mario Gomez 86 Germany Fiorentina
Antonio Di Natale 85 Italy Udinese
    Mario Balotelli 84 Italy Milan
    Gonzalo Higuaín 84 Argentina Napoli
    Mirko Vucinic 83 Montenegro Juventus
    Miroslav Klose 83 Germany Lazio
    Rodrigo Palacio 82 Argentina Inter
    Diego Milito 82 Argentina Inter
    Llorente 82 Spain Juventus
    Fabio Quagliarella 81 Italy Juventus
    Giuseppe Rossi 81 Italy Fiorentina
    Antonio Cassano 81 Italy Parma
    Germán Denis 80 Argentina Atalanta
    Luis Muriel 80 Colombia Udinese

To score goals shooting is necessary. If either by foot or head, the most important attribute for a forward are: shooting, heading and pace.

Most goals are scored with the foot so good shooting is a necessary attribute for a forward.

Di Natale has the best shooting and the second best finishing of the Serie A.

    FORWARDS WITH BETTER SHOOTING
Antonio Di Natale 86 Italy Udinese
    Carlos Tévez 85 Argentina Juventus
    Fabio Quagliarella 84 Italy Juventus
    Mario Balotelli 82 Italy Milan
    Giuseppe Rossi 82 Italy Fiorentina

    Mirko Vucinic 81 Montenegro Juventus
    Rodrigo Palacio 81 Argentina Inter
Goran Pandev 81 FYR Macedonia Napoli

    Mario Gomez 79 Germany Fiorentina
    Diego Milito 79 Argentina Inter
    Josip Ilicic 79 Slovenia Fiorentina
    Germán Denis 78 Argentina Atalanta

On FUT 14, knowing how to head gained another importance. Plenty of goals are born like this.

Unlike with shooting there’s no proportionality between players with high ratings and players with good heading. Serie A player with best heading is Amauri, one of the gold forwards with lowest rating. If you are looking a more balanced player that can also be used on crosses, Klose and Llorente are good choices.

    FORWARDS WITH BETTER HEADING
    Amauri 88 Italy Parma
    Llorente 87 Spain Juventus
    Miroslav Klose 86 Germany Lazio
    Germán Denis 86 Argentina Atalanta
    Mario Gomez 84 Germany Fiorentina
    Giampaolo Pazzini 84 Italy Milan
    Alberto Gilardino 83 Italy Genoa
    Mauricio Pinilla 82 Chile Cagliari
    Rolando Bianchi 81 Italy Bologna
    Diego Milito 80 Argentina Inter

    Sergio Floccari 80 Italy Lazio
    Marco Borriello 80 Italy Roma
    Alessandro Matri 80 Italy Milan
    Ciro Immobile 80 Italy Torino

Depending on the style of play and formation having good shooting and heading may not be enough for a striker. Especially in games that privilege counter-attack, pace is a very important attribute.

Víctor Ibarbo is the fastest forward of Serie A. There are many other fast forwards.

    FORWARDS WITH BETTER PACE
    Víctor Ibarbo 93 Colombia Cagliari
    Sebastian Giovinco 91 Italy Juventus
    Marco Sau 91 Italy Cagliari
    Luis Muriel 89 Colombia Udinese
    Maximiliano Moralez 89 Argentina Atalanta
    Lorenzo Insigne 89 Italy Napoli
Antonio Di Natale 86 Italy Udinese
    Rodrigo Palacio 85 Argentina Inter
    Mario Balotelli 84 Italy Milan
    Robinho 82 Brazil Milan
    Manolo Gabbiadini 82 Italy Sampdoria
    Carlos Tévez 81 Argentina Juventus
    Adem Ljajic 81 Serbia Roma
    Mirko Vucinic 80 Montenegro Juventus
    Giuseppe Rossi 80 Italy Fiorentina

There are three amazing forwards on Serie A: Mario Balotelli, Carlos Tévez and Antonio Di Natale. The Milan’s player is very strong and the other two can play as CF or CAM. The work rates of each of these players show exactly how they are on the field.

If you don’t have enough coins to buy them, you have other good forwards to choose. That choice is subjective because it depends of your play style. In our opinion, Mario Gomez, Miroslav Klose and Llorente are the best ones for who wants a player with good heading; Rodrigo Palácio, Giovinco and Ibarbo for who likes to play in counters and needs a fast player; Higuain and for who is looking for a finisher.

    Serie A Team Suggestions

A lot of people think that this is the most important part of the guide. It’s not. The thing that is really important to know is how to choose player based on their role and style of play that fits each player. And that is made in the previous chapters. The team suggestions that follow are simple graphic indicators of what we wrote previously. They should serve merely as orientation because it’s impossible to build a team that fits everyone. They depend on various factors we don’t know such as budget, formation, style of play and player preferences.

To try and explore the needs of the maximum player as possible we suggest three teams with different budgets and formations: 4-1-2-1-2 with unlimited budget, 4-3-3 with 35k budget and 4-4-2 with a 15k budget.

    • Summary
    • The choice for this team’s player was based on analysis made in the previous chapters.
In goal, Buffon is better than Handanovic. The Inter’s goalkeeper is a good alternative for who can’t lives with the low reflexes of Buffon.
In centre back position, Chiellini is unquestionable. Benatia and Ogbonna are also good players to this position. In the right side, the pace of Abate is more important than the higher technical quality of Maicon. In the other side, and since there are only two players for this position, Domenico Criscito can take the place we gave to Kévin Constant.
As CDM we have chosen Arturo Vidal instead of De Rossi. The two wingers are irreplaceable, but the same doesn’t happen with Di Natale. Many players don’t need a fast player to this position and, in that case, Pirlo should be perfect.
On the attack, Di Natale is the only one that can replace Balotelli and Tévez.

In goal, Handanovic is a cheaper alternative to Buffon. In the defence, the four players are the same, except Chiellini that was replaced by Benatia due to his price.
On the midfield, Daniele De Rossi plays on the centre to help the back four. Guarin and Marchisio are also good players for this position specially for who wants a more attacking player than De Rossi. The other two midfielders are the attacking players: Hamsik and Hernanes are our first choices.
Cuadrado and Asamoah are responsible to assist Mario Gomez, a very balanced striker.

In goal José Reina is a true penny saver. In front of him, Zapata and Juan Jesus close the path to goal. Konko and Constant are the other two defenders.

The biggest new of this team is the pair Pabo Armero / David Pizarro that with their pace, dribbling, and above average passing give width to the attack. On a 442 formation it may be a good option to use someone more defensive, like Cambiasso.
On the last third of the field, Joaquín and Nainggolan are great players that support the strikers Milito and Klose, two really cheap and popular players.

      Hybrid Squads

Building a hybrid team is not usually an easy task. The biggest difficulty is finding key players to join between different leagues.

The Serie A is not a good league to hybrid squads because there are very few Italian players playing outside the country.

The teams with greatest quality are the result of the combination of Serie A with Bundesliga, Brazilian players and Argentine players. Klose, Mario Gomez, Hernanes, Kaka, Maicon, Danilo, Tevez, Higuaín, Diego Milito, Hugo Campagnaro, Rodrigo Palacio, Walter Samuel and Esteban Cambiasso have a key role in these hybrids.

Follow our other league guide to easily build your hybrid team.
