Introduction to the FUT 15 Barclays Premier League Guide

Building a team is the biggest challenge in FIFA 15 Ultimate Team. It doesn’t need to be the best team, this is because the budget may not allow it, but it needs to be the player’s stature for him to obtain success.

When choosing which players to play with, you will have to look carefully at their attributes. Choosing a team based on ratings is one of the most common mistakes on FUT 15. It’s precisely this aspect that this guide focuses on. For each position, and focusing on the truly important attributes, we’ll show you who are the best athletes to choose.

It’s also important that the player checks to see if the player he chooses fits the formations he likes to play in. For example, a good full back will be useless if the player only uses a formation with three defenders. According to these formations, the player must be cautious and look at the work rate. Try to relate them with the ones we advise in our Formations Guide.

Last but not least, it’s mandatory that you tune all of your team so that the individual and team chemistry will be as high possible. For this last step to be easier, the majority of the players start to define the type of team they’re building. Some choose to gather players of the same nationality, while others decide to form a team of players from the same league. The most popular leagues are the Brazilian league and the Barclays Premier League. There are also more experienced players that can form hybrid teams without damaging team chemistry a lot.

All of these steps are necessary to have; or it could mean that the team is not always well built as it could be. This article aims to help those that want to form a FIFA 15 Ultimate Team based on players from the Barclays Premier League. Even the players that have a BPL team, could take out some valuable conclusions from this guide that could help you make your team even better.

We received thousands of comments about similar guides that we have published in previous years. Most of them have asked us to help improve their teams and the players they had. It’s important that the readers understand that this guide is simply guidance. It’s a theme too vast and the player combinations are almost infinite. Besides, there are various factors that influence the choices, like one’s style of play, the formations used, the available budget, the preferences or even the time spent playing. There’s still one uncertain component: a good player for someone might not be for another. If there was a better team everyone would fight to get it. Part of the fun of FIFA 15 Ultimate Team is this: everyone has their personal club and players.

Another important point and that must stay very clear is that whoever is reading this guide, it’s about some criteria we chose and should be of everyone’s knowledge:

  • Only Gold Players
    • In this guide we didn’t consider silver or bronze player. Most players don’t assume them to be a better option than gold players, so to simplify the guide’s analysis we didn’t include them. In the future we may come to publish guides exclusively talking about these categories.
  • Only Regular Players
    • In this guide we didn’t consider In Forms (IF). They’re extremely expensive and in most cases are not considered good value for money. They should only be used by players with generous budgets, that already have the best team possible and that want small upgrades.
  • Only Normal Players
    • In this guide we didn’t consider players that have been transferred to other clubs or that have been reviewed (UP). Only players that started their season in the Barclays Premier League and with their original attributes were considered.
  • Only Original Attributes
    • In this guide we didn’t consider changes made on a players performance such happens when applying training or chemistry styles cards.
  • Position analysis
    • To make the comprehension of this guide easier we divided the players in nine distinct groups in order of their original position: Goalkeeper (GK), central backs (CB), right backs (RB and RWB), left backs (LB and LWB), central defensive midfielders (CDM) central midfielders (CM and CAM), right midfielders (RM, RW and RF), left midfielders (LM, LW and LF) and forwards (CF and ST).
  • Prices at the date of publication of the guide
    • In the chapter where FIFA 15 Ultimate Team BPL teams are suggested, the prices considered are the ones of the date of the guide’s publication: October 2014. It’s natural that the prices have suffered some oscillations throughout the season, so they should only be considered as guiding prices.

    Barclays Premier League

No league is as spectacular as the main football competition in the United Kingdom. The champions in the second biggest league in the world are made through the made points system. Whichever team gathers the most points wins the league. The top four teams gain access to the champions league of the proceeding year, while the last three trade places with the first three promoted teams from the Football League Championship. Every season starts in August and finishes in May, having 38 game weeks with 10 matches each, being a total of 380 matches per season.

The Barclays Premier League is the most watched football league in the world, broadcasted in 212 countries and in more than 600 million homes. It’s also the second football league with more assists and the second best league classified in the UEFA league coefficients.

Since the competition began in 1992 the Premier League has only been conquered by 5 clubs. The dominant club is Manchester United, with a total of 13 titles. London’s teams only won the league three times while Manchester City won it twice and Blackburn Rovers once.

As of last season, the BPL lost many good players such as David Luiz (PSG), Ashley Cole (Roma), Thomas Vermaelen (Barcelona), Demba Ba (Besiktas), Fernando Torres (AC Milan), Pepe Reina (Bayern Munich), Javi Garcia (Zenit St Petersburg), Micah Richards (Fiorentina), Alvaro Negredo (Valencia), Nemanja Vidic (Inter Milan), Patrice Evra (Juventus), Nani (Sporting Lisbon), Shinji Kagawa (Borussia Dortmund) and Javier Hernandez (Real Madrid), they’re good examples of this. But, the biggest outgoing transfer was Liverpool’s Luis Suarez move to Barcelona for £75 million pounds.

These transfers didn’t necessarily make the league weaker. The English teams spent £835 million pounds on strong reinforcements, more £200 million than in the previous season. The most popular transfers were David Ospina and Alexis Sánchez (Arsenal), Aly Cissokho (Aston Villa), Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa, Didier Drogba and Luis Filipe (Chelsea), Abel Hernandez (Hull City), Esteban Cambiasso (Leicester City), Mario Balotelli, Emre Can, Lazar Markovic, Alberto Moreno and Divock Origi (Liverpool), Fernando and Mangala (Manchester City), Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Radamel Falcão (Manchester United), Rémy Cabella (Newcastle), Mauricio Isla and Eduardo Vargas (QPR), Fraser Forster, Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pellè (Southampton), Bafetimbi Gomez (Swansea City), Federico Fazio (Tottenham Spurs), Silvestre Varela (West Bromwich Albion), Enner Valencia, Cheikhou Kouyate, Diafra Sakho and Alex Song (West Ham United). But the biggest signing of the season was made between Madrid and Manchester United, with the purchase of Di Maria by the Red Devils for £60 million pounds.

The team making decisions are made tougher, but in a good way because of the vast quality of players in the league. Keep in mind since it is in the United Kingdom where FUT 15 is played the most, the Barclays Premier League is the most seen inside game’s teams. This means it is also the most expensive league, so it is not recommended for players with a limited budget.

FUT 15 Barclays Premier League Goalkeepers (GK)

Goalkeepers are the players that are used least on the field. Because of this they are also first ignored when building a team. Most players start their purchases with a forward, later they strengthen the midfield the defence and only later the goal. The truth is a good goalkeeper may be worth a lot of goals. They are a good investment because they are normally the most economically accessible players.

The goalkeepers with most prestige in the Barclays Premier League are the stalwart Petr Cech, the newly upgraded Hugo Lloris and the new young star Thibaut Courtois. With having the best rating they are also the most searched for by this league’s teams so this makes them more expensive.

    MOST HIGH-RATED GOALKEEPERS
    Thibaut Courtois 86 Chelsea Belgium
    Hugo Lloris 85 Spurs France
Petr Čech 85 Chelsea Czech Republic
De Gea 83 Manchester Utd Spain
    Simon Mignolet 82 Liverpool Belgium
Tim Howard 82 Everton United States
Joe Hart 82 Manchester City England
Asmir Begović 82 Stoke City Bosnia Herz.
    Wojciech Szczęsny 80 Arsenal Poland
    Michel Vorm 79 Spurs Netherlands

When choosing a good goalkeeper it’s not only down to his rating. There are two fundamental attributes for choosing a good goalkeeper: reflexes and diving.

The first measures a goalkeeper’s agility when making a save. The best on this aspect are Hugo Lloris, De Gea and Courtois.

    GOALKEEPERS WITH BEST REFLEXES
De Gea 88 Manchester Utd Spain
    Hugo Lloris 88 Spurs France
    Thibaut Courtois 88 Chelsea Belgium
Joe Hart 86 Manchester City England
Willy Caballero 86 Manchester City Argentina
Asmir Begović 85 Stoke City Bosnia Herz.
    Simon Mignolet 84 Liverpool Belgium
Petr Čech 84 Chelsea Czech Republic
    Wojciech Szczęsny 84 Arsenal Poland
    David Ospina 84 Arsenal Colombia

Diving is a fundamental attribute when choosing a goalkeeper. It measures the capacity for a goalkeeper to make a save when jumping.

De Gea is also the best one with this attribute, with a slight advantage over Lloris. For those who are looking for the cheaper solution, Asmir Begović is a valid alternative.

    GOALKEEPER WITH BEST DIVING
De Gea 87 Manchester Utd Spain
    Hugo Lloris 86 Spurs France
Joe Hart 85 Manchester City England
    Thibaut Courtois 84 Chelsea Belgium
Asmir Begović 84 Stoke City Bosnia Herz.
    Simon Mignolet 84 Liverpool Belgium
Tim Howard 84 Everton United States
Petr Čech 83 Chelsea Czech Republic
    Wojciech Szczęsny 83 Arsenal Poland
    David Ospina 82 Arsenal Colombia

The most experienced Ultimate Team players know that another leaning factor on a goalkeeper’s performance without considering the remaining four attributes: height. The more tall a goalkeeper is, better his chances of having a clean sheet.

This is Hugo Lloris’s weak point. Even though he can’t be considered a short goalkeeper, the truth is he’s 13 cm short of the mighty Fraser Forster, this gold goalkeeper holds the title of tallest Barclays Premier League Goalkeeper. Cech and Courtois are both very tall goalkeepers.

    TALLEST GOALKEEPERS
    Fraser Forster 201 Southampton England
Asmir Begović 200 Stoke City Bosnia Herz.
    Thibaut Courtois 199 Chelsea Belgium
Petr Čech 196 Chelsea Czech Republic
Joe Hart 196 Manchester City England
    Wojciech Szczęsny 196 Arsenal Poland
    Mark Schwarzer 194 Chelsea Australia
De Gea 193 Manchester Utd Spain
Ben Foster 193 West Brom England
    Alex McCarthy 193 QPR England

The choice for the best Barclays Premier League goalkeeper on FIFA 15 Ultimate team is not easy.

In our opinion, the position is in good hands (literally) if you choose Thibaut Courtois or Hugo Lloris. The two goalkeepers are equivalent on the most important attributes, but the Belgian is better in the other attributes. He is also 11 cm taller which makes all the difference.

De Gea is the one with better reflexes and diving, but in the other attributes he is not good enough. We recommend him only for those who frequently pass the ball to the goalkeeper.

When talking about cheapest goalkeepers our suggestion is Asmir Begovic. Only a few EPL goalkeepers have better reflexes and diving than him. Besides, he’s also the second tallest of them all, which takes out any doubt for those who still had any. For those who don’t want to choose him because of the difficulty of having good chemistry links with the centre back, Simon Mignolet is a good alternative.

FUT 15 Barclays Premier League Centre Backs (CB)

A goalkeepers task is made easier if in front of him are quality central backs. Their function is to stop the opponent from getting dangerously close to your team’s goal.

With the move of Vidic to the Calcio, Kompany is now the centre back with the best reputation in the Barclays Premier League. The remaining good players to consider because of experience are John Terry and Per Mertesacker, and by irreverence, Eliaquim Mangala and Jan Vertonghen come to mind.

    HIGHEST RATED CENTRE BACKS
Vincent Kompany 86 Manchester City Belgium
       Per Mertesacker 83 Arsenal Germany
       John Terry 83 Chelsea England
       Jan Vertonghen 82 Belgium Tottenham
       Gary Cahill 81 Chelsea England
       Martin Škrtel 81 Liverpool Slovakia
       Laurent Koscielny 81 Arsenal France
       Mamadou Sakho 81 Liverpool France
       Phil Jagielka 80 Everton England
       Federico Fazio 80 Tottenham Argentina
Eliaquim Mangala 80 Manchester City France
Ron Vlaar 79 Aston Villa Netherlands
       Dejan Lovren 79 Liverpool Croatia
Joleon Lescott 79 West Brom England
Michael Dawson 79 Hull City England

On a centre back, two attributes assume particular importance on their performance: defending and the new attribute physical, which represents strength, stamina, aggression and jumping.

A player with better defending will have an easier chance of dispossessing the opponent and avoid him reaching your box.

It’s the case of the two best rated players: Kompany and Mertesacker. It’s really hard to get past them. The most experienced players are normally those who have a higher rating with this attribute. Terry, Gary Cahill and Skrtel prove this.

    CENTRE BACKS WITH BETTER DEFENDING
Vincent Kompany 87 Manchester City Belgium
       Per Mertesacker 87 Arsenal Germany
       John Terry 84 Chelsea England
       Gary Cahill 84 Chelsea England
       Martin Škrtel 82 Liverpool Slovakia
       Jan Vertonghen 82 Belgium Tottenham
       Laurent Koscielny 82 Arsenal France
Ron Vlaar 81 Aston Villa Netherlands
       Phil Jagielka 81 Everton England
       Dejan Lovren 81 Liverpool Croatia
       Federico Fazio 81 Tottenham Argentina
Joleon Lescott 81 West Brom England
Michael Dawson 81 Hull City England
Jonny Evans 81 Manchester United England
       Rio Ferdinand 81 QPR England

The new physical attribute shows the old heading capability but also how likely the players are to win game with their body. This is a crucial attribute when looking for the best centre back.

In this chapter Huth, Mangala and Shawcross are the strongest ones.

    CENTRE BACKS WITH BETTER PHYSICAL
Robert Huth 86 Stoke City Germany
Eliaquim Mangala 85 Manchester City France
Ryan Shawcross 84 Stoke City England
       Mamadou Sakho 83 Liverpool France
       Martin Škrtel 82 Liverpool Slovakia
Ron Vlaar 82 Aston Villa Netherlands
       Younès Kaboul 82 Tottenham France
Marcos Rojo 82 Manchester United Argentina
Ashley Williams 82 Swansea City Wales
Vincent Kompany 81 Manchester City Belgium
       Jan Vertonghen 81 Belgium Tottenham
       Phil Jagielka 81 Everton England
       Dejan Lovren 81 Liverpool Croatia
       Federico Fazio 81 Tottenham Argentina
       John Terry 80 Chelsea England

Defending and heading may be useless against fast opponents. It’s necessary to fight fire with fire. No one likes feeling impotent when seeing you get overrun by extremely fast players. Even though, in a way, centre backs aren’t that fast, every team needs one of these players with a high pace attribute.

The weak relish for heading by Kompany is in a way compensating due to his good speed. But there are faster players in the Barclays Premier League. The first on the list is Nedum Onuoha. We don’t consider him a viable option since he lacks the remaining attributes necessary for a good central back. Koscielny, Mangala and Smalling are also fast players. They possess these attributes and in that way they make themselves a viable option for a defence based on the BPL.

    CENTRE BACKS WITH BETTER PACE
       Nedum Onuoha 83 QPR England
       Laurent Koscielny 81 Arsenal France
       Vlad Chiricheş 81 Tottenham Romania
Chris Smalling 78 Manchester United England
Eliaquim Mangala 76 Manchester City France
Marcos Rojo 75 Manchester United Argentina
       Steven Caulker 75 QPR England
Curtis Davies 75 Hull City England
       Gary Cahill 74 Chelsea England
Jonny Evans 74 Manchester United England
       Younès Kaboul 74 Tottenham France
Matija Nastasić 74 Manchester City Serbia
Kolo Touré 74 Liverpool Ivory Coast
Winston Reid 74 West Ham Australia
Vincent Kompany 73 Manchester City Belgium

Kompany is our number one choice for this position. Fast and with good defending and attacking attributes, the Belgian is the most expensive of all centre backs in the Barclays Premier League.

In our opinion, Koscielny and Mangala are the centre backs that come closest to Kompany’s quality. The Frenchman, Koscielny, has a slight advantage because he a work rate more appropriate to his position. Jan Vertonghen and Marcos Rojo are also good options.

FUT 15 Barclays Premier League Right Backs (RB and RWB)

Full backs have the role of troubling the job of wingers. In addition, good full backs also support their team mates on offensive manoeuvres.

Choosing the best right back for a Barclays Premier League Team is an extremely hard choice. There are various valid options depending on the style of play. The first seven, seen below, are the most popular.

    HIGHEST RATED RIGHT BACKS
Pablo Zabaleta 82 Manchester City Argentina
       Branislav Ivanović 81 Chelsea Serbia
Bacary Sagna 80 Manchester City France
       Mathieu Debuchy 80 Arsenal France
Séamus Coleman 78 Everton Republic of Ireland
       Kyle Walker 77 Tottenham England
       Rafael 77 Manchester United Brazil
       Glen Johnson 76 Liverpool England
Àngel Rangel 75 Swansea City Spain
       Daryl Janmaat 75 Newcastle Netherlands

There are very important attributes for any right back: defending and pace.

Since they’re defenders they should have good defending capacities. This reduces a team’s risk of conceding.

Ivanovic is the player that best fits this aspect. The only other players that offer any type of competition are the Manchester City duo Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta.

    RIGHT BACKS WITH BETTER DEFENDING
       Branislav Ivanović 86 Chelsea Serbia
Pablo Zabaleta 83 Manchester City Argentina
Bacary Sagna 81 Manchester City France
Séamus Coleman 78 Everton Republic of Ireland
       Mathieu Debuchy 78 Arsenal France
       Kyle Walker 76 Tottenham England
       Rafael 76 Manchester United Brazil
Àngel Rangel 76 Swansea City Spain
       Glen Johnson 75 Liverpool England
       Daryl Janmaat 74 Newcastle Netherlands

A flanked game tends to be faster than a game based in the middle of the field. The players that fill these spaces are obligated to be fast, both penetrating defensive and attacking moves of the team. Pace is one of the most important requirements for a good full back.

Kyle Walker is the fastest gold right backs in FIFA 15 Ultimate Team. The English international player is far superior in this aspect when compared to every BPL full back. Besides Kyle Walker, only Rafael and Séamus Coleman may be considered reasonably fast players.

    RIGHT BACKS WITH BETTER PACE
       Kyle Walker 91 Tottenham England
       Rafael 83 Manchester United Brazil
Séamus Coleman 81 Everton Republic of Ireland
       Glen Johnson 79 Liverpool England
       Mathieu Debuchy 76 Arsenal France
       Daryl Janmaat 76 Newcastle Netherlands
Pablo Zabaleta 74 Manchester City Argentina
Bacary Sagna 74 Manchester City France
       Branislav Ivanović 67 Chelsea Serbia
Àngel Rangel 65 Swansea City Spain

Pablo Zabaleta is the highest rated right back but once again, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the best choice for this position. In our opinion him and Ivanović are the right choices for players that don’t use full backs to attack.

On the other hand there’s Kyle Walker. He has fantastic pace, good dribbling, passing and his high attacking work rate makes him a good player for those that see full backs as second wingers.

For those that search for an intermediate solution, in other words, a player that defends and attacks fairly, we advise Séamus Coleman. He is a very balanced athlete.

Best FUT 15 Barclays Premier League Left Backs (LB e LWB)

Left backs have exactly the same role of their team mates on the other flank. In other words, they try to make a winger’s job hard and participate in the team’s offensive manoeuvres.

There are three BPL players that stand out in this position: the solid Leighton Baines, the debutant Filipe Luis and the speedy Gaël Clichy.

    HIGHEST RATED LEFT BACKS
       Filipe Luís 82 Chelsea Brazil
       Leighton Baines 82 Everton England
Gaël Clichy 80 Manchester City France
       Azpilicueta 79 Chelsea Spain
       Kieran Gibbs 78 Arsenal England
Aleksandar Kolarov 78 Manchester City Serbia
       Alberto Moreno 78 Liverpool Spain
       José Enrique 77 Liverpool Spain
       Monreal 76 Arsenal Spain
Luke Shaw 75 Manchester United England

The vast experience of Filipe Luis, Clichy and Baines contribute decisively to make these players the three best defending left backs in the league. Even though being one of the fastest, using Luke Shaw should not be an option for teams where it’s necessary when defending frequently. He may be good in Career Mode but in Ultimate Team there are many players better than him.

    LEFT BACKS WITH BETTER DEFENDING
       Filipe Luís 81 Chelsea Brazil
Gaël Clichy 80 Manchester City France
       Leighton Baines 80 Everton England
       Azpilicueta 80 Chelsea Spain
       Kieran Gibbs 79 Arsenal England
Aleksandar Kolarov 78 Manchester City Serbia
       José Enrique 77 Liverpool Spain
Luke Shaw 75 Manchester United England
       Alberto Moreno 74 Liverpool Spain
       Monreal 74 Arsenal Spain

The promising, Anfield tied Alberto Moreno is the fastest left back in the English league. He makes his speed his biggest threat, and only Clichy can be compared with this stat.

    LEFT BACKS WITH BETTER PACE
       Alberto Moreno 87 Liverpool Spain
Gaël Clichy 85 Manchester City France
       Filipe Luís 82 Chelsea Brazil
Luke Shaw 82 Manchester United England
       Kieran Gibbs 81 Arsenal England
       José Enrique 81 Liverpool Spain
       Azpilicueta 79 Chelsea Spain
       Monreal 78 Arsenal Spain
       Davide Santon 78 Newcastle Italy
       Leighton Baines 77 Everton England

Clichy and Filipe Luis are with no question the best left backs playing in the Barclays Premier League. Clichy is faster, but the Brazilian player is generally a more complete player.

Leighton Baines and Alberto Moreno are valid alternatives to these two players but for different reasons. The first besides being an extremely balanced player is also a good crosser. He’s a good choice for more attacking teams. What is lacking to him, Moreno has a lot. He is the fastest left back, something so important in FUT 15. However, don’t ask much more that that from him.

Of all the remaining players, Kieran Gibbs is our cheapest choice. He doesn’t have the same efficiency as the others we referred too but he’s fast enough to cause some offensive damage and possesses reasonable defending.

Best FUT 15 Barclays Premier League Central Defensive Midfielder (CDM)

Many of the FIFA 15 Ultimate Team formations require some midfielders that have a natural aptitude to defend. Central defensive midfielders distinguish themselves for being especially aimed to help the more retreated line of their teams. According to their attributes and their work rates, they can also be useful for starting attacks. They are players that occupy a very strategic position in the field.

Now that Yaya Touré is a CM, Matic, Ramires and Gerrard are the players highest rated in this position.

    HIGHEST RATED CENTRAL DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDERS
       Nemanja Matić 82 Chelsea Serbia
       Steven Gerrard 82 Liverpool England
       Ramires 81 Chelsea Brazil
       Gareth Barry 80 Everton England
       Morgan Schneiderlin 80 Southampton France
       Mikel Arteta 80 Arsenal Spain
       Fernando 79 Manchester City Brazil
       Sandro 79 QPR Brazil
       Lucas Leiva 79 Liverpool Brazil
James McCarthy 79 Everton Rep. Ireland
Alexandre Song 79 West Ham Cameroon
Marouane Fellaini 79 Manchester United Belgium
Daley Blind 79 Manchester United Netherlands
Cheick Tioté 78 Newcastle Ivory Coast
John Obi Mikel 78 Chelsea Nigeria

There are a variety of attributes in a central defensive midfielder that you have to give attention: defending, so that the first defender of team works; strength, so that you win all brawls in a prone area of the field; heading, to win possession in aerial moves like goal kicks; pace, so that you cover the most terrain on the field as possible; stamina, so they can equally participate in offensive and defensive moves (especially useful for players with high/high work rates); passing and possession so that he can properly start attacks. In our opinion the two first are the most important.

Normally using a central defensive midfielder is associated with having a deficit of elements in your defence. So, it makes sense that when you search for a player to occupy this position you’d want players that can defend.

The best central defensive midfielder play for Manchester City: Fernando. He is a good choice for teams that want to complicate an opponent’s game in the space between the midfield and the defence.

The area of the field occupied by the central defensive midfielders is the one where most ball disputes happen. Strong players will have a higher probability of winning the ball.

There’s a lot of muscle between the Barclays Premier League. Tioté, Obi Mikel, Fellaini, Wanyama and Carlos Sánchez are good examples of that. On the other hand there’s Ramires. Even though he’s a really special player, Chelsea’s Brazilian rarely wins a physical brawl due to being the weakest central defensive midfielder in the BPL.

Ramires is our favourite because he possess a much appreciated cocktail of work rate, pace and stamina which allows him to be everywhere. He is also the fastest and the CDM with highest accumulated score. He is weak physically, but if you have played with him in previous years, you will be pleasantly surprised. He is one of the players who most benefited from the fitness changes introduced this year.

There are still very good options that offer a cheap price but still good quality wise, like Matic. For those who want an element that offer defensive solidity to the team, Fernando is a very interesting choice. For those that search for someone that can roam to further zones around the pitch, Tioté is a player to considered.

A lot of games are decided in the midfield and not close to the goals. The players that play in these zones are the ones that should create the game and define its rhythm.

It’s in midfield that there’s more quality in the Barclays Premier League. Some of the world’s best footballers play there. It’s the case of the Touré, Ozil and the newcomer Di Maria.

Centre midfielders are responsible for discovering lines that break the opponents defence. Their passing quality has to be really good so they can assist forwards.

Even though Ozil and Mata have a great passing stat, Fábregas is the one who does it better in the whole Barclays Premier League.

Di Maria is the most interesting player in the Barclays Premier League Midfield. He is levelled with the best players at various attributes, like passing, dribbling, pace and long shots.

Another essential player is Yaya Touré, in large parts because of his amazing strength and stamina. He is a very balanced player but his new medium-medium work rate doesn’t let him to give everything he has to give to the team. In our opinion, he was the best FIFA player in the past few years, but he is not any more. Obviously, he is still a wonderful player but if you were used to playing with him, you will notice a considerable difference.

Ozil, Mata, Fábregas and Oscar are cheaper players that can perform well their roles as centre midfielders.

Our cheapest choice falls to Coutinho. Even though he isn’t very physically powerful, the Brazilian is fast dribble and is a good passer.

The wingers are responsible for giving game width in the attack. They’re normally very explosive players.

The right side of the midfield was in earlier seasons the weak point of Barclays Premier League based teams. The addition of Alexis Sánchez to this league and the passage of Willian from left to right side came as a solution to this problem.

There are three fundamental attributes for a winger: pace, dribbling and passing.

Pace is probably the biggest weapon of these players. They use it to evade opponents and getting to the other side, many times via sprints on the side lines.

The Barclays Premier League is extremely well served in this chapter. Five gold players have pace over 90, being the highlighted sprinter Theo Walcott, the fastest gold player of FIFA 15 Ultimate Team.

Just being fast doesn’t cut it to reach the opponents box, having good dribbling to surpass the opponents’ players that appear on the way.

There are a lot of players gifted in dribbling, being Willian and Alexis Sánchez the best.

When reaching the opponents box the winger has to decide what to do. Normally, they choose to cross to the forwards. That is why it’s important for them to have good passing.

The weakest point of the Barclays Premier League Wingers is surprising – passing. Only James Milner offers good quality passing. Sterling, for example, could’ve been an option to consider filling this slot in virtue of his fantastic pace, but he’s affected negatively for missing frequently passes to his more forward team mates.

    RIGHT WINGERS WITH BETTER PASSING
James Milner 81 Manchester City England

       Alexis Sánchez 75 Arsenal Chile
       Theo Walcott 75 Arsenal England
       Aaron Lennon 73 Tottenham England

Aléxis Sánchez and Willian are clearly the most indicated players to occupy this position in a team without budget restraints. Our preference goes toward the Brazilian player that even though has worse shooting can be faster and help the defence more due to his work rate being high/high and great stamina. However, if you are looking for someone for this position with good shooting, Sánchez may be a better choice. Navas is the third name in our list.

From the most popular there’s also James Milner. That even though has good passing, he is the slowest of the whole league. We discourage this purchase.

For those that can’t pay so many coins there’s a player that doesn’t diverge far from the best: Kevin Mirallas. The Belgian is as fast as Sánchez, has almost better dribbling than Navas and passes much better than the Chilean player. Besides having a work rate adjusted to the position he occupies he is still has a 4 star week foot and 4 star skill moves.

The left wingers have exactly the same role as their team mates from the other side.

Now that David Silva has changed his position, Eden Hazard has finally competition to his position.

Even though they’re fast, the left wingers aren’t nearly as fast as their team mates from the right side. The fastest one is Hazard.

    LEFT WINGERS WITH BETTER PACE
       Eden Hazard 89 Chelsea Belgium

       Lukas Podolski 74 Arsenal Germany

With the exception of Podolski that isn’t a natural born dribbler there’s a proportional quality between the left winger and his dribbling. It’s natural that Hazard, David Silva, Nasri and Santi Cazorla are the ones most highlighted in this chapter.

    LEFT WINGERS WITH BETTER DRIBBLING
       Eden Hazard 91 Chelsea Belgium
David Silva 89 Manchester City Spain

Wayne Routledge 80 Swansea City England
       Nacer Chadli 79 Tottenham Belgium

David Silva is clearly the best fitted passer between the remaining left wingers. Even though we discourage, Santi Cazorla is an option for those that don’t necessarily need pace.

Matt Jarvis 74 West Ham England
Adnan Januzaj 72 Manchester United Belgium
       Varela 71 West Brom Varela

Hazard’s price is prohibits him from many budgets, proving the worth of the player. He’s without a doubt the best Barclays Premier League left winger. He’s the fastest one and the best dribbler. He possesses a series of other developed attributes such as balance, agility, acceleration and ball control. We only discourage him for teams that will need him defending, given his work rate high/low. David Silva is also a wonderful player but not for this position. He is a top-quality player, especially in ball control and passing, but his pace is not enough to convince us.

For those that don’t want to pay as many coins for the Belgian, Christian Eriksen is the most complete player and for that reason, our cheapest choice. Nasri and Cazorla are not fast enough and André Schürrle has bad passing stats.

One of the most used players in the BPL is Podolski. Even though he’s the one that has the best shooting, his passing and dribbling don’t convince us.

The forwards are the players on which fall the most responsibility of scoring goals.

In the Barclays Premier League, the most popular are players that could play in any club in the world: Robin Van Persie, Falcão, Sergio Aguero, Rooney and Diego Costa

To score goals shooting is necessary. If either by foot or head, the most important attribute for a forward are: shooting, heading and pace.

Most goals are scored with the foot so good shooting is a necessary attribute for a forward.

Robin Van Persie is the third best shooter of FIFA 15 Ultimate Team. Only Cristiano Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic are superior. Besides his team mates Wayne Rooney and Falcão, Aguero possess an above average shot. This means the best forwards are the ones that best shooting.

    FORWARDS WITH BETTER SHOOTING

Jump, strength and stamina are the ingredients to the new physical attribute, very important when we are analysing the best forwards: jump to score with the head; strength to dispute the ball with the opponents; and stamina to sprint in direction of goal at any time of the game.

That’s here where we see that Diego Costa and Rooney are great players. Aguero and Robin Van Persie, for example, are in the bottom of this list.

Depending on the style of play and formation, having good shooting and heading may not be enough for a striker. Especially in games that privilege counter-attack, pace is a very important attribute.

Eto’o is not a fast striker any more. Compared to FUT 14, his pace was downgraded by 15 (!) points, leaving Remy alone at the top of the fastest strikers in the Barclays Premier League. In a way, the 34 Forwards of this league are fast players, but not as fast as the Frenchman.

    FORWARDS WITH BETTER PACE
       Loïc Rémy 90 Chelsea France
       Daniel Sturridge 89 Liverpool England
Sergio Agüero 88 Manchester City Argentina

Wayne Rooney 76 Manchester United England
       Soldado 76 Tottenham Spain
       Samuel Eto’o 76 Everton Cameroon

In our opinion, Aguero and Diego Costa are the best BPL strikers. The Manchester City player has a slight advantage due to his better pace and shooting. Even though he’s not the best at any of the basic attributes, no other BPL forward surpasses him in ball control, acceleration and balance.

Choosing the best Barclays Premier League forward is a bit subjective because it depends on everyone’s style of play. It is always missing something to the best alternatives to Aguero and Diego Costa: Van Persie is slow; Falcão isn’t as good as in the previous year now that heading bug was fixed; Wayne Rooney plays better as CF or even CAM than as a striker; and Sturridge has bad passing.

Far from these strikers quality, Benteke is our cheapest choice. Him and Lukaku may cause a lot of damage on the opponents defence.

    Barclays Premier League Team Suggestions

A lot of people think that this is the most important part of the guide. It’s not. The thing that is really important to know is how to choose players based on their role and style of play that fits each player. The team suggestions that follow are simple graphic indicators of what we wrote previously. They should serve merely as orientation because it’s impossible to build a team that fits everyone. They depend on various factors we don’t know such as budget, formation, style of play and player preferences.

To try and explore the needs of the maximum player as possible we suggest three teams with different budgets and formations: 4-1-2-1-2 with unlimited budget, 4-3-3 with 50k budget and 4-4-2 with a 10k budget.

    • Summary
    • The choice for this team’s players was based on analysis made in the previous chapters.

Thibaut Courtois comes from the Spanish league and is already the best possible option as a goalkeeper for a Barclays Premiere League squad. Although Lloris is a valid choice, the Belgian is still definitely better especially for being way taller than him.

Kompany keeps on being the boss of the defensive foursome for all and a few more reasons. Both Mangala and Koscielny are great potential partners for Man City’s centre back. In our understanding, Koscielny’s well-adjusted work rates are more important than Mangala’s air balls dominance. Kyle Walker imposes himself with his tremendous pace to gain the right back position, while the left back Filipe Luis is way too complete to simply stay out of this squad.

Although Yaya is originally a CM in FUT 15, the CDM position works like a charm for him. He’s no longer so much of a box-to-box player now with the new medium-medium work rate. If you need someone with these characteristics, don’t hesitate to choose Ramires as well. For the next position, Di Maria is our natural choice. The Argentinian is so good that you’ll probably think to yourself what of a waste it is that you can’t use him on the wings.

Probably the most debatable decision is on whether you choose Willian or Aléxis Sánchez. In general we’ve got kind of a technical draw. It all depends on your game style. If you want someone that will interact more with the strikers, choose Sánchez. If your preference is to distribute the ball to the rest of the team, you should be good with Willian. Now, more than ever, Eden Hazard is so brilliant there’s just no chance he could stay out of the left midfield.

If your budget allows you, of course, Agüero and Diego Costa are the obvious choices for the attack line. The biggest surprise, however, is maybe how Sturridge now takes Falcão or Robin Van Persie’s spot on the bench, but the truth is that the young lad’s characteristics are just more appropriate to the FIFA 15 gameplay style.

Once all the players reach maximum individual chemistry you can go without a manager for your squad. They’ll be of no use and still spend contracts.

    • Summary
    • The choice for this team’s players was based on analysis made in the previous chapters.

At the goal, Begovic is an authentic bargain that will actually stand shoulder to shoulder against popular goalkeepers such as Petr Cech and Tim Howard.

Mangala is the most expensive player in this squad but he’s definitely worth every penny. By his side, another player that was originally from the Liga Portuguesa: Marcos Rojo. The young argentinian has got good defending characteristics and his work rate makes up for Mangala’s. Coleman’s assertiveness and Alberto Moreno’s speed will complete our defending foursome.

The central midfield position has to be Matic’s. The serbian builds up the first barrier between your goal line and the opponent, making his defensiveness and physicality count. Coutinho, which still has maximum individual chemistry even playing as a CAM, and Wilshere complete the midfield.

While Mirallas beats the concurrence by the right wing, Eriksen or Nasri could equally fill with quality the opposite side.

Over the attack line, Lukaku or Benteke are excellent choices. They’re very similar to each other and are good for their pace, strength and resistance mainly.

If you still have some room in your budget, Kyle Walker, Koscielny and Willian are players that would improve this squad a lot.

    • Summary
    • The choice for this team’s players was based on analysis made in the previous chapters.

Szczesny is the most expensive player in this squad but he’s most likely to be seen as an investment of certain return.

The same goes for the rest of the defence. Maybe except for Smalling, all of the players are costing less than they were supposed to considering their actual quality.

On the midfield, Tioté and Rosicky complete each other well. The first one is kind of a smaller and more defensive version of Touré, and the second is an experienced player that’s usually more advanced and is used to assisting his colleagues. Lamela and Arnautovic fill the wings in order to assist Bony and Zárate.
