FC 27 introduces community-driven gameplay innovations designed to provide greater control, more intelligent movement and a more authentic representation of football. From attacking runs and dribbling to defending, corners and offline matches, we break down the most important gameplay features below.
New FC 27 Gameplay Features
EA Sports FC 27 builds on the two gameplay presets introduced last year while placing greater responsibility in the hands of the player. Smarter attacking movement creates more natural options in possession, manual defending becomes more important, agile dribblers can withstand physical challenges and redesigned set pieces offer greater control inside the box.
Attacking Spatial Awareness
Attacking players now recognise open spaces and passing opportunities more effectively. Teammates make more intelligent curved runs, helping them avoid defenders and remain onside while creating better angles for through balls.
Players also make improved overlapping and underlapping runs. These movements can occur automatically or be requested manually, providing greater control over how teammates support attacks and exploit gaps in the opposition’s defensive structure.
Off-Balance Dribbling
Off-Balance Dribbling allows agile players to maintain momentum when challenged by an opponent. Instead of immediately losing control after physical contact, skilful dribblers can use controlled imbalance to protect the ball and continue moving.
The mechanic makes individual attributes and body movement more influential during one-on-one situations. Well-timed defending remains effective, but lighter and more technical players are now better equipped to resist contact without relying solely on strength.
Redesigned Corner Kicks
Corner kicks have been redesigned to provide real-time control over attacking intent and defensive positioning. Players have greater freedom to move inside the penalty area, select their approach and time runs towards the delivery.
Defending teams can also reposition players before the ball enters the box, making set pieces more interactive for both sides. The system should create greater variety instead of repeatedly placing players in predetermined positions.
Improved Crossing and Aerial Battles
Crossing and heading have been updated alongside the corner system. Improved two-player header simulation creates more competitive aerial contests by considering the positioning and movement of both players challenging for the ball.
Attackers and defenders should interact more naturally when competing for crosses, rewarding well-timed runs, accurate deliveries and strong defensive positioning.
AI Defending Rebalance
FC 27 reduces the influence of AI-controlled defenders to give players greater responsibility without the ball. Automatic tackles have been removed, meaning defenders are less likely to recover possession without direct player input.
Successful defending now depends more heavily on jockeying, positioning and accurately timed tackles. AI teammates can still maintain the team’s defensive structure, but the user must take a more active role when confronting the ball carrier.
Greater Reward for Manual Defending
The defensive rebalance is designed to create a clearer difference between passive positioning and skilful intervention. Players who correctly anticipate attacks, close passing lanes and select the right moment to tackle should be rewarded more consistently.
By limiting automatic interventions, FC 27 aims to make defensive success feel more deliberate while providing attackers with more opportunities against opponents who rely excessively on the AI.
Authentic Gameplay 2.0
Authentic Gameplay returns with a major upgrade for offline modes. Authentic Gameplay 2.0 delivers a more grounded and realistic match experience, with greater variation between fixtures and a stronger emphasis on individual player personalities.
Teams can adjust their approach as matches develop, while different opponents behave in ways that better reflect their qualities and tactical identities. These evolving tactics should make offline matches less repetitive and require players to adapt throughout a season.
Distinct Player Personalities
Authentic Gameplay 2.0 places additional importance on the characteristics of individual footballers. Their movement, decision-making and influence on the match are designed to feel more distinctive, helping elite players and specialists stand out on the pitch.
Combined with evolving opposition tactics, this provides greater match-to-match variety and a more convincing simulation for players who prefer Career Mode and other offline experiences.
Competitive and Authentic Gameplay
FC 27 continues to support different gameplay experiences for online and offline players. Competitive Gameplay prioritises responsiveness, direct control and balance in modes where users compete against each other.
Authentic Gameplay 2.0 focuses instead on realism, tactical variety and more natural football behaviour. This separation allows each experience to evolve around the expectations of its intended audience.
Platform Availability
Some FC 27 gameplay improvements, including the new dribbling features and Off-Balance Dribbling, are only available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
The PlayStation 4, Xbox One and original Nintendo Switch versions may therefore provide a different gameplay experience and do not include every feature described in this article.
FC 27 focuses on greater player control at both ends of the pitch. Smarter attacking runs and more resilient dribbling expand the options available in possession, while reduced AI assistance places greater value on manual defending. Together with redesigned set pieces and Authentic Gameplay 2.0, these changes aim to create more varied, responsive and true-to-football matches.
