Evolutions Explained

Evolutions allow you to complete in-game objectives and apply permanent upgrades to eligible Player Items. They provide a way to develop favourite players and adapt them to your squad, tactics and preferred style of play.

To start an Evolution, assign an eligible Player Item to the available Evolution slot and complete the listed objectives. The Item then receives the upgrades associated with that Evolution. Eligibility varies between Evolutions, so always check the requirements before committing a player.

Some Evolutions follow a linear progression, while selected Evolutions introduce branching Pathways. These Pathways allow you to choose between different upgrade routes, such as improving different Attributes or adding different PlayStyles.

The upgrade applied to a Player Item depends on the selected Evolution. Improvements may include Attributes, Overall Rating, PlayStyles, PlayStyles+ or other Item characteristics specified in the requirements. Not every Evolution offers the same type or scale of upgrade.

Evolutions can also form part of a longer development route. The new Evolution Chain Preview lets you see how a player could progress through one Evolution and which additional Evolutions may become available afterwards, helping you plan before making a decision.

The PlayStyles Lab returns as a recurring programme in FC 27. Eligible Items can include pre-applied PlayStyles, allowing you to customise part of the Item rather than starting with a completely blank selection. Requirements may vary according to the PlayStyle being unlocked.

Evolution costs, entry requirements, objectives, time limits and available rewards depend on each individual Evolution. Always review the complete information in-game before selecting a Player Item.

Select an eligible Player Item, assign it to an Evolution and complete the listed objectives before the deadline. Once the requirements are fulfilled, the Item receives the upgrades associated with that Evolution.
Each Evolution has its own eligibility requirements. These may refer to the player’s Overall Rating, Rarity, position, league, nation, club, Attributes, Skills, Weak Foot or other Item characteristics. Always check the complete requirements before selecting a player.
Depending on the Evolution, upgrades can affect Attributes, Overall Rating, PlayStyles, PlayStyles+, positions, Skill Moves, Weak Foot, Work Rates or other Item characteristics. Not every Evolution includes the same types of upgrade.
Yes. Once an Evolution has been completed, its upgrades remain on the Player Item. The Item can continue to be used in your squad according to the restrictions and characteristics of the resulting version.
Some Player Items can be used in more than one Evolution. However, this depends on the eligibility requirements and restrictions of each path. Evolution Chain Preview can help you identify possible follow-up routes before committing to an upgrade.
No. Traditional linear Evolutions continue to exist, but selected Evolutions now offer branching Pathways with different upgrade options.
Pathways are branching Evolution routes. They allow you to choose between different upgrades, such as Attribute improvements or PlayStyles, so that you can adapt the Item to your squad and preferred style of play.
Evolution Chain Preview shows how a Player Item could develop through one Evolution and which additional Evolutions may become available afterwards. This makes it easier to plan a longer upgrade route before making a decision.
The PlayStyles Lab is a recurring programme that allows you to customise the PlayStyles of eligible Player Items. In FC 27, some Items already include pre-applied PlayStyles, while the requirements for acquiring additional PlayStyles can vary.
No. Pathways are available only in selected Evolutions. Other Evolutions continue to use a fixed, linear progression route.
The cost depends on the individual Evolution. Some are free, while others may require Coins, FC Points or another form of entry requirement. Check the in-game details before starting an Evolution.
Standard Evolutions may have separate deadlines for activating the slot and completing the upgrades. If the completion timer expires, you receive the upgrades for the levels you completed, but not for incomplete or partially completed levels. Training Camp Evolutions use a different system and keep the Player unavailable for a set period.
Some cosmetic upgrades can be combined without overwriting existing visual elements. The exact result depends on the Evolution and the cosmetic items already applied to the Player Item.
Yes. Applying an Evolution does not remove the Item from its original live upgrade path. If the campaign conditions are met, the evolved Item can continue to receive the corresponding upgrades, while keeping the improvements already granted by the Evolution.
Some Evolutions can add or change positions, but this is not available in every path. Position changes are applied only when explicitly included in the Evolution’s upgrade list.
Yes. Some Evolutions can add or improve PlayStyles or PlayStyles+. The available upgrades depend on the selected Evolution or Pathway and its specific requirements.
Yes. Once a Player Item is submitted to a standard Evolution slot, it becomes untradeable. Standard Evolutions cannot be cancelled or withdrawn after the Player has been submitted.
An Evolution Player cannot be submitted into an SBC while the Evolution is still in progress. Once all upgrades have been completed, the resulting Player Item can be used in an SBC.
