Many of the FUT formations require some midfielders that have a natural aptitude to defend. Central defensive midfielders distinguish themselves for being especially aimed to help the back line. According to their attributes and their work rates, they can also be useful to start attacks. They occupy a very strategic position in the field.

Kimmich is clearly the best player from all CDMs playing in the Bundesliga. However, this doesn’t mean that he is the best defensive midfielder. He is more focused on the attack, as you can see by his high attacking work rate. If you feel that he is not covering the back well enough, we strongly recommend using Zakaria instead. He is fast, strong and has good defensive skills, just like every defensive midfielder is supposed to be.

For lower budgets, we really think Laimer is the best choice. He is the fastest CDM and also one of the best on defending. Delaney and Witsel are other decent alternatives. The first one is much faster, while his teammate is better to start the attack.

Javier Martínez was excluded from our list, despite having the highest defensive stat, because of his pace (37).

A lot of games are decided in the midfield and not close to the goals. The players that play in these zones are the ones that should create chances and set the pace of the game.

Thiago was a huge loss for this league. Hopefully, we still have Leon Goretzka, who already was the best centre midfielder in the past year. He is fast, strong, has good work rates and has at least 76 on all face stats.

Can is an interesting alternative, especially if you want someone more focused on the defence but still good on the attack. He can perfectly be used as CDM, making use of his high defensive work rate.

For low-budget squads, we suggest trying Sabitzer and Tolisso.

An attacking centre midfielder is responsible for creating chances to score. He should have a good dribbling, a decent passing, a high long shot stat and a great vision stat.

Obviously, Reus is our first choice and it is easy to understand why: he is one of the fastest and also has the highest shooting and passing stats. Not everyone will have enough coins to buy him. In those cases, the best thing to do is to use Julian Brandt. The only big difference between these two players is that Brandt shoots considerably worse. Thomas Müller is also a good player but he plays better as CF.

For low budget-squads, we suggest trying Nkunku and Matheus Cunha.

Sancho was the player everyone was talking about last Summer. As one of the main FIFA ambassadors, Sancho received a surprising 87 rated item. If you are hyped to use him, you should know that he is not as good as you may think. He’s good enough to be the best right midfielder playing in Germany but you don’t feel that special thing a 87 rated player is supposed to have.

Gnabry is the best alternative to him but there is no reason to cost so many times more than Bellarabi. If you need to save a few coins, you can start by here.

Lazaro and Wolf are decent choices for (really) low-budget teams.

The left wingers have exactly the same role as their team mates from the other side.

Sané and Douglas Costa were both great additions to this league. They are extremely fast and have good dribbling skills (the Brazilian is a five-star skiller). The first one has also amazing shooting stats for someone who plays in this position. Unfortunately, their stamina and strength are very low.

The best alternative to them is Coman. His work rates are not so great but in everything else, he is just slightly worse. For low-budgets, we recommend Kostic (the stronger one), Guerreiro (if you want someone to help the defence) and Hazard (one of the few with high/high work rates). If all you want is pace, you also have Bailey and Diaby but don’t expect they play the same.
