Gheorghe Hagi (born 5 February 1965 in Săcele) is regarded as the best Romanian footballer of all time. Starting his career in his native Romania, Hagi became the most expensive Romanian footballer when Real Madrid paid €4.3 million for his services.

After a successful spell at Real, Hagi became one of the few players to play for Spain’s top two clubs when he later joined Barcelona. He ended his club career at Galatasaray where he won four consecutive league titles and two European titles. Known as ‘The King’ in his homeland, Hagi received 124 caps for Romania, and scored a record 35 goals.
