REAL LIFE
Marc Overmars (born 29 March 1973) was a Dutch winger who was renowned for his blistering pace and ability. Overmars’ career began in Holland with Go Ahead Eagles and, after a spell at Willem II, he became a household name thanks to his spell at Ajax.

His form there earned him a move in 1997 to Arsenal where he helped them to a domestic double in the 1997-98 season. Overmars’ move to Barcelona in July 2000 for a reported £25m was at the time the biggest transfer fee ever for a Dutch player.

2000

In the summer of 2000, Overmars joined Spanish giants Barcelona in a joint move with Arsenal teammate Emmanuel Petit. The fee of £25 million for Overmars meant he became the most expensive Dutch footballer in history – a record that was held for nearly 15 years.

Known for his incredible pace, dribbling ability and two footedness, Overmars was a constant thorn in defenders’ sides. His first season at Barcelona saw him finish with 8 goals and 31 league appearances.
Mid Version

1995

After joining Arsenal in 1997, Overmars settled into his new team well and his pace and dribbling quickly made opponents take notice. In particular, his form and goals in key matches during the latter part of the season were crucial to Arsenal toppling Manchester United to win the Premier League.

They later secured the double by winning the FA Cup, where Overmars scored the opening goal in the final. This was topped off by a man of the match performance in the 1998 FA Charity Shield win.
Prime Version

1998

Dutch winger Marc Overmars won the Eredivisie in three consecutive seasons during his five year career at Ajax. His finest season in the Netherlands, however, was undoubtedly the 1994-95 season which saw him help Ajax to lift the Eredivisie title and the Champions League, scoring against Bayern München in the semi-final. Ajax also won the 1995 Intercontinental Cup, beating Grêmio on penalties.

1995 also saw Overmars hit an international hat-trick during the 4-0 Dutch win away to Malta.
