The Best Defensive Midfielders
Many FUT formations require some midfielders with a natural aptitude to defend. Central defensive midfielders are mainly aimed to help the back line. However, according to their attributes and work rates, they can also help start attacks. Therefore, they occupy a very strategic position in the field.
It would be best if you looked at several attributes when choosing a central defensive midfielder: defending, to be able to support the back line; strength, to win possession more times; heading, to win the ball in aerial moves like goal kicks; pace, to cover as many spaces as possible; stamina, so he can equally participate in offensive and defensive plays (beneficial for players with high/high work rates); passing and possession, so that he can properly start attacks. In our opinion, the two first are the most important ones.
Usually, defensive midfielders are chosen to help the defence. So, it makes sense that they have high defensive stats. The area of the field occupied by CDMs is where most ball disputes happen. Strong players will have the highest probability of winning the ball.
Global Overview (CDM)
Goretzka is the defensive midfielder everyone wants. However, he isn’t cheap. In our opinion, Can is an excellent alternative to him. He is not as good when starting the attack, but you will be OK with him.
Laimer is another player to take into account. He is the fastest defensive midfielder playing in Germany and is good enough in the defense. However, if the pace is not essential to you, then you should pick Kimmich. For lower budgets, Sow is the best choice. He is a fast, very balanced player you can use on average teams. Özcan is very similar to him but with worse passing.
The Best Centre Midfielders
Many games are decided in the midfield and not close to the goals. The players that play in these zones are the ones that should create chances and set the pace of the game.
Centre midfielders are responsible for discovering lines that break the opponent’s defence. Their passing quality has to be good so that they can assist forwards.
Good dribbling skills allow the team to move forward, creating potential problems for the other team.
Global Overview (CM)
Once again, Leon Goretzka is, in our opinion, the best center midfielder playing in Germany. He is fast, strong, and has good work rates. His regular item is only two pace points away from having every face stats above 80, which only he reached in the FUT history. Brilliant!
Can is an interesting alternative, especially if you want someone more focused on the defense but still good on the attack. Even knowing he has better stats than Bellingham, we believe the English player is a better native central midfielder.
For low-budget squads, we suggest fast players like Laimer, Gravenberch, and Wirtz or top passing and dribbling midfielders like Götze and Brandt.
The Best Attacking Midfielders
An attacking centre midfielder is responsible for creating chances to score. They should have good dribbling, decent passing, a high long shot, and great vision stat.
These midfielders need to have good passing stats to assist forwards. However, they can make all the difference when the team is attacking if they are good dribblers.
Global Overview (CAM)
There is no easier choice than picking the best central attacking midfielder. Christopher Nkunku is a must-have for any team. He has amazing stats and is also among the few 5-star skillers.
If you can’t pay for the RB Leipzig midfielder, Marco Reus and Thomas Müller are the two you should look for with more attention. The first has better dribbling skills, while the other is stronger.
For low budget-squads, we suggest trying a group of players led by Demirbay, but you can also go for the popular alternative Musiala.
The Best Right Midfielders
Wingers are usually responsible for giving game width in the attack.
The pace is probably the biggest weapon of these players. They use it to escape opponents. However, being fast isn’t enough to reach the opponent’s box. A good dribbling stat will help you to surpass the opponents’ players that appear on the way. When reaching the opponent’s box, the winger has to decide what to do. Typically, he decides to cross, and that’s why it’s so important to have good passing stats.
Global Overview (RM, RW)
Before you choose your right midfielder, you will have to decide: do you want someone fast or good on the other things? If it’s all about pace for you, then Moussa Diaby will fit perfectly on your team. He’s still a good player but Gnabry, who is much slower, beat him in almost everything else: shooting, passing, physical, weak foot, and work rates.
Despite his amazing stats, we don’t recommend using Reus because of his pace. Other players will be more valuable, like Baku, Becker, and Bebou. Our favorite is the first of these three because he is the most balanced.
You probably won’t need to go deeper, but if you want to try someone else, we recommend Bellarabi and Ejuke as acceptable options.
The Best Left Midfielders
The left wingers have the same role as their teammates from the other side.
Global Overview (LM, LW)
Mané is the most popular left midfielder playing in the Bundesliga. He’s extremely fast and has amazing shooting and dribbling. He is a great addition to any team based in the Bundesliga. Alphonso Davies is a good alternative, but you will probably need him on your defense’s left side.
There are many quality left-wingers in the Bundesliga. It’s the case of Coman, Sané, and Diaby. They are all fast dribblers you will love.
If you are looking for someone else, you can try one of the most used players, Bellingham, or adapt Mallen and Werner to this position.
