Introduction to the FIFA 16 Liga BBVA Guide

Building a team is the biggest challenge on FIFA 16 Ultimate Team. It doesn’t need to be the best team, because your budget may not allow it, but it is player’s stature that helps him obtain success.

When choosing which players to play with, you will have to look carefully at their attributes. Choosing a team based on ratings is one of the most common mistakes on FUT 16. It’s precisely this aspect that this guide focuses on. For each position, and focusing on the truly important attributes, we’ll show you who are the best athletes to choose.

It’s also important that you check to see if the player you choose fits the formations you like to play in. For example, a good full back will be useless if you only use a formation with three defenders. According to these formations, you must be cautious and look at the work rate. Try to relate them with the ones we advise in our Formations Guide.

Last but not least, it’s mandatory that you tune all of your team so that the individual and team chemistry will be as high possible. For this last step to be easier, the majority of the players start to define the type of team they’re building. Some choose to gather players of the same nationality, while others decide to form a team of players from the same league. There are also more experienced players that can form hybrid teams without damaging team chemistry a lot.

All of these steps are necessary to have; or it could mean that the team is not always well built as it could be. This article aims to help those that want to form a FIFA 16 Ultimate Team based on players from the Liga BBVA. Even the players that have a La Liga team, could take out some valuable conclusions from this guide that could help them make their team even better.

We received thousands of comments about similar guides that we have published in previous years. Most of them have asked us to help improve their teams and the players they had. It’s important that the readers understand that this guide is simply guidance. It’s a theme too vast and the player combinations are almost infinite. Besides, there are various factors that influence the choices, like one’s style of play, the formations used, the available budget, the preferences or even the time spent playing. There’s still one uncertain component: a good player for someone might not be for another. If there was a better team everyone would fight to get it. Part of the fun of FIFA 16 Ultimate Team is this: everyone has their personal club and players.

Another important point and that must stay very clear is that whoever is reading this guide, it’s about the criteria we chose and should be of everyone’s knowledge:

  • Only Gold Players
    • In this guide we didn’t consider silver or bronze players. Most players don’t assume them to be a better option than gold players, so to simplify the guide’s analysis we didn’t include them. In the future we may come to publish guides exclusively talking about these categories.
  • Only Regular Players
    • In this guide we didn’t consider In Forms (IF). They’re extremely expensive and in most cases are not considered good value for money. They should only be used by players with generous budgets, that already have the best team possible and that want small upgrades.
  • Only Normal Players
    • In this guide we didn’t consider players that have been transferred to other clubs or that have been reviewed (UP). Only players that started their season in the Liga BBVA and with their original attributes were considered.
  • Only Original Attributes
    • In this guide we didn’t consider changes made on a players performance such happens when applying training or chemistry styles cards.
  • Position analysis
    • To make the comprehension of this guide easier we divided the players in nine distinct groups in order of their original position: Goalkeeper (GK), central backs (CB), right backs (RB and RWB), left backs (LB and LWB), central defensive midfielders (CDM) central midfielders (CM and CAM), right midfielders (RM, RW and RF), left midfielders (LM, LW and LF) and forwards (CF and ST).
  • Prices at the date of publication of the guide
    • In the chapter where FIFA 16 Ultimate Team BBVA teams are suggested, the prices considered are the ones of the date of the guide’s publication: October 2015. It’s natural that they have suffered some oscillations throughout the season, so we added a link where you can check the updated prices.

    Liga BBVA

Arguably no league has as good players as the main football competition in Spain. The qualification for the champion is made through the points system. Whichever team gathers the most points wins the league. The first four classified gain access to the champions league in the following year, while the fifth and sixth qualify for the Europa League and the last three trade places with the first two promoted from the Segunda División and with the play-off winner. Every season starts in August and finishes in May, having 38 game weeks with 10 matches each, being a total of 380 matches per season.

The Liga BBVA is the third most watched football league in the world and the best league classified in the UEFA league coefficients.

Started in 1928, La Liga has only been conquered by nine clubs. The dominant clubs are Real Madrid and Barcelona, with a total of 33 and 24 titles. Atlético de Madrid (10), Atlético de Bilbao (8), Valência (6) and Real Sociedad (2) were the other teams that have won the league more than once, while Deportivo la Coruna, Real Bétis and Sevilla only won the title once.

As of last season, the Liga BBVA lost some good players such as Miranda (Inter), Mario Mandžukić and Sami Khedira (Juventus), Toby Alderweireld (Spurs), Raúl Jiménez (SL Benfica), Gerard Deulofeu (Everton), Pedro (Chelsea), Juanmi (Southampton), Fábio Coentrão and Lucas Silva (Marseille), Carlos Bacca (AC Milan) and Nicolás Otamendi (Manchester City). But, the biggest transfers out were Casillas, from Real Madrid to FC Porto, and Xavi Hernandez, from Barcelona to Al Sadd SC.

These transfers didn’t necessarily make the Liga BBVA weaker. The Spanish teams spent more than 400 million Euros on strong reinforcements: Yannick Ferreira Carrasco Stefan Savić, Bernard and Filipe Luís (Atlético de Madrid), Rafael van der Vaart (Bétis), Deyverson (Belenenses), Bruma (Real Sociedad), Gaël Kakuta (Sevilla) Álvaro Negredo, Danilo Barbosa and Aymen Abdennour (Valencia) and Roberto Soldado (Villarreal). But the biggest signings of the season happened in Madrid. Danilo, Jackson Martinez and Mateo Kovačić have joined La Liga for 96 million Euros, almost a quarter of the all money spent by the all Liga BBVA clubs this season.

There are many great player choices to make which will make an even better team for you to aim to build. But, since it’s the league with better players, their prices are high. Only the Barclays PL players are more expensive than these ones. To the players with a limited budget, there are other better options.

Best FIFA 16 Liga BBVA Goalkeepers

    GK

Goalkeepers are the players that are used least on the field. Because of this they are also first ignored when building a team. Most players start their purchases with a forward, later they strengthen the midfield the defence and only later the goal. The truth is a good goalkeeper may be worth a lot of goals. They are a good investment because they are normally the most economically accessible players.

The goalkeepers with most prestige in the Liga BBVA are Marc-André ter Stegen, Diego Alves and the Chilean National team goalkeeper Claudio Bravo. With having the best rating they are also the most searched for by this league’s teams so this makes them more expensive.

    MOST HIGH-RATED GOALKEEPERS
Claudio Bravo 83 FC Barcelona CHI
Diego Alves 83 Valencia CF BRA

When choosing a good goalkeeper it’s not only down to his rating. There are two fundamental attributes for choosing a good goalkeeper: reflexes and diving.

The first measures a goalkeeper’s agility when making a save. The best on this aspect are Diego Alves and Ochoa.

Diving is a fundamental attribute when choosing a goalkeeper. It measures the capacity for a goalkeeper to make a save when jumping.

Diego Alves is also the best one with this attribute, with a slight advantage over Moyá.

The most experienced Ultimate Team players know that another leaning factor on a goalkeeper’s performance without considering the remaining four attributes: height. The more tall a goalkeeper is, better his chances of having a clean sheet.

This is Claudio Bravo’s weak point. Even though he can’t be considered a short goalkeeper, the truth is he’s 7 cm short of the mighty Iraizoz, this gold goalkeeper holds the title of tallest Liga BBVA Goalkeeper. None of the top goalkeepers has 1,90m or more.

Now that Casillas is not playing in this league any more, the choice for the best Liga BBVA goalkeeper on FIFA 16 Ultimate Team is not easy. Diego Alves and Claudio Bravo are both great players.

In our opinion, Diego Alves is the best choice. Despite not having good positioning and decent handling, he is one of the best in the world in the two more important attributes. Claudio Bravo is the number two. He is the La Liga goalkeeper with highest total stats.

A goalkeepers task is made easier if in front of him are quality centre backs. Their function is to stop the opponent from getting dangerously close to your team’s goal.

With a centre back, two attributes assume particular importance on their performance: defending and the new attribute physical, which represents strength, stamina, aggression and jumping.

A player with better defending will have an easier chance of dispossessing the opponent and avoid him reaching your box.

It’s the case of the best rated player: Sergio Ramos. It’s really hard to get past him. The most experienced players are normally those who have a higher rating on this attribute. Piqué and Godín prove this.

    CENTRE BACKS WITH BEST DEFENDING

The new physical attribute shows the old heading capability but also how likely the players are to win game with their body. This is a crucial attribute when looking for the best centre back.

In this chapter Aymen Abdennour and Pepe are the strongest ones.

Defending and heading may be useless against fast opponents. It’s necessary to fight fire with fire. No one likes feeling impotent when seeing you get overrun by extremely fast players. Even though, in a way, centre backs aren’t that fast, every team needs one of these players with a high pace attribute.

The Madrid players are the fastest in Liga BBVA and some of the fastest in the world. But there are other fast players in La Liga. Jérémy Mathieu and Nacho Fernández are also fast players.

Sergio Ramos is our number one choice for this position. Fast and with good defending and attacking attributes, the Madrid’ defender is for that the without a chance most expensive of all central backs of the Liga BBVA. He is the better in 2 of 6 main attributes.

Pepe and Jérémy Mathieu are without a doubt good players for this position but there are other cheaper solutions. Like, Iñigo Martinez. He is several times cheaper than Piqué, for example.

Best FIFA 16 Liga BBVA Right Backs

    RB | RWB

Full backs have the role of troubling the job of wingers. In addition, good full backs also support their team mates on offensive manoeuvres.

For all players with a good budget, to choose the best right back is something very simple. Dani Alves is by far the best one.

    HIGHEST RATED RIGHT BACKS
Dani Alves 84 FC Barcelona BRA
    Juanfran 81 Atlético Madrid ESP
    Danilo 81 Real Madrid BRA

De Marcos 80 Athletic Bilbao ESP
    Arbeloa 80 Real Madrid ESP
    Coke 80 Sevilla FC ESP
Mario Gaspar 79 Villarreal CF ESP
Carlos Martínez 79 Real Sociedad ESP

There are very important attributes for any right back: defending and pace.

Since they’re defenders they should have good defending capacities. This reduces a team’s risk of conceding.

In our opinion, Dani Alves is the best right back of Liga BBVA but Danilo and other seven Spanish players defend better than him.

    RIGHT BACKS WITH BEST DEFENDING
    Arbeloa 82 Real Madrid ESP
    Carvajal 81 Real Madrid ESP
    Danilo 80 Real Madrid BRA
Mario Gaspar 80 Villarreal CF ESP
Carlos Martínez 80 Real Sociedad ESP

    Tito 79 Rayo Vallecano ESP
    Coke 79 Sevilla FC ESP
Dani Alves 78 FC Barcelona BRA
Santiago Vergini 78 Getafe CF ARG

A flanked game tends to be faster than a game based in the middle of the field. The players that fill these spaces are obligated to be fast, both penetrating defensive and attacking moves of the team. Pace is one of the most important requirements for a good full back.

De Marcos is the fastest FUT 16 right back playing in La Liga. Dani Alves and Juanfran are the only ones that may also be considered fast players.

    RIGHT BACKS WITH BEST PACE
De Marcos 89 Athletic Bilbao ESP
Dani Alves 86 FC Barcelona BRA
    Juanfran 84 Atlético Madrid ESP
    Mariano 83 Sevilla FC BRA

    Carvajal 81 Real Madrid ESP
    Danilo 81 Real Madrid BRA
Iván López 81 Levante UD ESP
Mario Gaspar 80 Villarreal CF ESP
    Tito 78 Rayo Vallecano ESP

Finally, Dani Alves has competition. It is not easy to choose between him and Danilo. The Madrid’s defender is more complete, but Dani Alves has better stats for his position. His weakest point is his work rate high/low. He is the only right back with a low defensive work rate. For many gamers, he is too attacking.

If you don’t have enough coins to buy them, choose De Marcos. He has poor defensive stats but he is really fast and strong, which may be important too. If you are looking for someone with better defensive skills, you can try Juanfran or Carajal.

Left backs have exactly the same role of their team mates on the other flank. In other words, they try to make a winger’s job hard and participate in the team’s offensive manoeuvres.

A team’s left flank has even less options than the right but that doesn’t necessarily mean it has less quality. There are three players that stand out in this position: Jordi Alba, Marcelo and Filipe Luís.

    Gayà 78 Valencia CF ESP
Benoît Trémoulinas 77 Sevilla FC FRA
    Adriano 77 FC Barcelona BRA

Jordi Alba is the fastest left back in the world. He makes his speed his biggest threat, differing from other players from this position. Excepting Nacho and Gayà, all other players are a lot slower.

    LEFT BACKS WITH BEST PACE
Jordi Alba 92 FC Barcelona ESP

    Siqueira 79 Atlético Madrid BRA

To choose the best Left Back from Liga BBVA is a hard task. Marcelo is slightly better than Alba in almost every stat, but the pace of the Spanish player can make the difference many times. What he lacks in these attributes he highly compensates with his pace. That’s the main reason why we consider him the best Liga BBVA left back.

Of all the remaining players, Filipe Luís is probably the most interesting one. However, Gayà is our cheapest choice. He doesn’t have the same efficiency as the others we referred too but he’s fast enough to cause some offensive damage and possesses decent skills.

Best FIFA 16 Liga BBVA Central Defensive Midfielders

    CDM

Many of the FIFA 16 Ultimate Team formations require some midfielders that have a natural aptitude to defend. Central defensive midfielders distinguish themselves for being especially aimed to help the more retreated line of their teams. According to their attributes and their work rates, they can also be useful for starting attacks. They are players that occupy a very strategic position in the field.

With regard to the popularity, the supremacy of Busquets over all other Liga BBVA central defensive midfielders is extremely clear.

    HIGHEST RATED CENTRAL DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDERS
Sergio Busquets 86 FC Barcelona ESP

    Baena 78 Rayo Vallecano ESP
    Casemiro 77 Real Madrid BRA
    Verza 77 Levante UD ESP
Xavi Torres 76 Real Betis ESP

There are a variety of attributes in a central defensive midfielder that you have to give attention: defending, so that the first defender of team works; strength, so that you win all brawls in a prone area of the field; heading, to win possession in aerial moves like goal kicks; pace, so that you cover the most terrain on the field as possible; stamina, so they can equally participate in offensive and defensive moves (especially useful for players with high/high work rates); passing and possession so that he can properly start attacks. In our opinion the two first are the most important.

Normally using a central defensive midfielder is associated with having a deficit of elements in your defence. So, it makes sense that when you search for a player to occupy this position you’d want players that can defend.

The CDM with best defending stats are Busquets and Krychowiak.

The area of the field occupied by the central defensive midfielders is the one where most ball disputes happen. Strong players will have a higher probability of winning the ball.

There’s a lot of muscle between the central defensive midfielders of Liga BBVA. Once again, Grzegorz Krychowiak is the one that stands out. On the other hand there’s Abraham. The Spanish player rarely wins a physical brawl due to being the weakest central defensive midfielder from the main Spanish League.

The two players with best ratings are the ones that can make this job with success. No other player can guarantee quality on the field.

Krychowiak is our favourite. He is strong, fast, aggressive and he offers much more defensive security. He has better work rates for that. He is the best central defensive midfielder in the most important attributes. Busquets is more tactical, better on the ball and play better in the opposite midfield.

For those who want an element that offer defensive solidity to the team for a low price, Camacho is a very interesting choice. He is our economic choice.

A lot of games are decided in the midfield and not close to the goals. The players that play in these zones are the ones that should create the game and define its rhythm.

There is many quality in the Liga BBVA midfield. Some of the world’s best footballers play there. It’s the case of Iniesta, Modric, James Rodriguez and Kroos.

Centre midfielders are responsible for discovering lines that break the opponents defence. Their passing quality has to be really good so they can assist forwards.

Kroos, Iniesta and Parejo have a great passing stat.

Iniesta is the best player in the attributes that we consider most important in this position. However, our preferences goes to James Rodriguez and Modric. They are much more balanced midfielders. James is one of the fastest players and with better shooting while the Croatian is a box to box player. Kroos is not in our first choices because he is too slow for this game.

Rakitic and Isco are cheaper players that can perform well their roles as centre midfielders.

Our cheapest choice falls to Parejo.

Best FIFA 16 Liga BBVA Right Wingers

    RM | RW | RF

The wingers are responsible for giving game width in the attack. They’re normally very explosive players.

The best wingers in the world play in Liga BBVA: Ronaldo and Neymar on the left side; Messi and Bale one the right side.

There are three fundamental attributes for a winger: pace, dribbling and passing.

Pace is probably the biggest weapon of these players. They use it to evade opponents and getting to the other side, many times via sprints on the side lines.

The Liga BBVA is extremely well served in this chapter. Five gold players have pace over 90, being the highlighted Gareth Bale.

Just being fast doesn’t cut it to reach the opponents box, having good dribbling to surpass the opponents’ players that appear on the way.

There are a lot of players gifted in dribbling, but no one can be compared to Lionel Messi. He has the best dribbling stat in the game.

When reaching the opponents box the winger has to decide what to do. Normally, they choose to cross to the forwards. That is why it’s important for them to have good passing.

Only Messi and Pedro Léon offer excellent quality passing. Bruma and Aleix Vidal, for example, could’ve been an option to consider filling this slot in virtue of their fantastic pace, but they are affected negatively for missing frequently passes to their more forward team mates.

Lionel Messi is clearly the most indicated players to occupy this position in a team without budget restraints. He is the one with best pasing, shooting and dribbling. The only problem is his price. If you are rich but not so much, Bale is also a top-quality winger.

For those that can’t pay so many coins, Carlos Vela and Turan might be an option, depending of how much important is pace to you. However, Sofiane Feghouli is much cheaper and almost as good as the Mexican player. That’s why he is our economic choice.

Ronaldo is the most expensive player in the game. His price prohibits him from lots of budgets, proving the worth of the player. He’s without a doubt the best Liga BBVA left winger and, for many people, the best player in the world. Among all the Liga BBVA left wingers, he is the one with best pace, passing, shooting and physical. But there is more: he has the best shooting of the game and he is one of the few that can perform any skill.

For those that don’t want to pay as many coins for the captain of Portuguese National Team, the alternative is Neymar. The Brazilian winger is also very expensive. Yevgen Konoplyanka is our third choice.

There are no big differences between Nolito, Piatti and Jesé. Nolito is more balanced, Piatti is faster and Jesé is more expensive. Any of them is a good choice for low-budget squads.

To score goals shooting is necessary. If either by foot or head, the most important attribute for a forward are: shooting, heading and pace.

Most goals are scored with the foot so good shooting is a necessary attribute for a forward.

Luis Suárez and Karim Benzema are the BBVA forwards with best shooting. This means the best forwards are the ones that are best at shooting.

Jump, strength and stamina are the ingredients to the new physical attribute, very important when we are analysing the best forwards: jump to score with the head; strength to dispute the ball with the opponents; and stamina to sprint in direction of goal at any time of the game.

That’s here where we see that Jackson Martinez is a great player. His team mates Griezmann and Ángel Correa, for example, are almost in the bottom of this list.

Messi has moved to the left side but the attack of Liga BBVA is still very strong.

Suárez is the best Liga BBVA forward, without any discussion. He has the best passing, shooting and dribbling. However, he is expensive forcing many players to choose another forward.

It is not easy to choose between Karim Benzema and Jackson Martinez. It depends of your play style: the Frenchman is better for link up play, while the Colombian striker is perfect for counter attacking football. In a general way, our preference goes to Jackson Martinez: he has better work rates, is stronger, his heading stats are better and he helps the team mates more often.

Griezmann is our fourth choice. His attributes are better to play as a CF or even as a CAM.

Far from these strikers quality, Nordin Amrabat is our cheapest choice.

    Liga BBVA Team Suggestions

A lot of people think that this is the most important part of the guide. It’s not. The thing that is really important to know is how to choose players based on their role and style of play that fits each player. The team suggestions that follow are simple graphic indicators of what we wrote previously. They should serve merely as orientation because it’s impossible to build a team that fits everyone. They depend on various factors we don’t know such as budget, formation, style of play and player preferences.

To try and explore the needs of the maximum player as possible we suggest three teams with different budgets and formations (1): 4-1-2-1-2 with unlimited budget, 4-3-3 with 100k budget and 4-4-2 with a 25k budget.

    (1) These formations were chosen because they are the most popular ones. It doesn’t mean that they are the best formations for this league.

Now, to check the current prices of any player /squad, you just need to check ‘updated price

    • Summary
    • The choice for this team’s players was based on analysis made in the previous chapters.

In our opinion, Diego Alves is the best Liga BBVA goalkeeper. He is often criticized for having a bad positioning but the other two good goalkeepers, Bravo and Ter Stegen, are not much better.

Sergio Ramos keeps on being the boss of the defensive foursome for all and a few more reasons. His weakest point is his attacking work rate and that’s why someone more defensive should play next to him. That’s the case of Pepe. On the right side, Dani Alves isn’t better player than Danilo but he is probably better right back. However, it is important to keep in mind that the Brazilian player looks more an attacker than a defender. If you are looking for someone with better defending work rate, you should try Danilo. In the left side, it’s difficult to choose between Alba and Marcelo. To us, what makes the difference is the great Alba’s pace.

For the CDM position, we made our most questionable choice: Krychowiak. We know that many of you would prefer to play with someone more popular, like Modric or Busquets, but no one gives more security to your defence as he does. And in FIFA 16 it is extremely important to defend well in the midfield. For the next position, James Rodriguez is the most balanced player. Griezmann can also be used in this position.

On the wings, the team have the two best players in the world: Messi and Ronaldo. It is a waste to leave players like Neymar and Bale out of this team. However, since there isn’t many people that can afford Ronaldo and Messi, the most likely is to be these two to stay out of the team.

If your budget allows you, Luis Suárez is the obvious first choice for the attack line. You have two players to join him: Benzema if you have a patient play style or Jackson Martinez if you prefer counter attacks.

Once all the players reach maximum individual chemistry you can go without a manager for your squad. They’ll be of no use and still spend contracts.

    • Summary
    • The choice for this team’s players was based on analysis made in the previous chapters.

As we already have explained, Diego Alves is our first choice to the goal.

Pepe and Mathieu complement each other very well in a fast and strong defence. Danilo shows his amazing stats in the right side, while Filipe Luís replaces reasonably well Alba and Marcelo in the opposite side.

The central midfield position has to be Grzegorz Krychowiak’s. The Sevilla’s player builds up the first barrier between your goal line and the opponent, making his defensiveness and physicality count. Rakitic and Isco, which still have maximum individual chemistry even playing as CM, complete the midfield.

While Konoplyanka beats the concurrence on the left wing, Turan or Vela could equally fill with quality the opposite side. It all depends if you need someone fast or not.

Over the attack line, Jackson Martinez is an excellent choice.

If you still have some room in your budget, Alba is a player that would improve this squad a lot.

    • Summary
    • The choice for this team’s players was based on analysis made in the previous chapters.

Sergio Asenjo was a nice surprise this year. You shouldn’t miss this cheap and high-quality goalkeeper.

Iñigo Martínez is probably the ‘best value for money’ you will ever find in Liga BBVA. He is slightly worse than Pepe but his price is several times lower. Aymen Abdennour, De Marcos and Trémoulinas are the three other defenders.

On the midfield, Enzo Pérez and Parejo complete each other well. Nolito is our choice to the left side. Because he is not a rare card, he is strongly undervalued. However his performance remains the same. Feghouli, another very cheap player, fills the right wing in order to assist Amrabat and Rodrigo.
