FC 27 HOW TO BUY PACKS
Buying packs is very simple, yet they often fall short of expectations.
How to Buy
Ultimate Team revolves around collecting Player Items to build and improve your squad. Packs can be earned through Objectives, SBCs, Rivals, Champions, Squad Battles, Live Events, the Seasonal Ladder and other rewards. They can also be purchased from the Ultimate Team Store when eligible offers are available.
Buying packs provides Items immediately, but it does not guarantee that you will receive the players you want. If you need a specific tradeable player, purchasing that Item directly from the Transfer Market is generally more reliable.
How to Buy Packs
- From the Ultimate Team main screen, press R1/RB to go to [Store];
- Use R1/RB to select [Browse];
- Select the desired category and pack;
- Review its contents, probabilities, purchase limit and expiry time;
- Choose one of the available payment methods;
- Confirm the purchase.
Packs can also be purchased through the Web App and Companion App. If you need to purchase FC Points, the app may require authentication through the digital store associated with your platform.
The Best Times to Open Packs
Buying a Store pack normally opens it immediately. However, unopened reward packs can be saved until a Campaign featuring desirable Player Items is available.
The best time to open saved packs depends on the Items currently available, their usefulness to your squad and their potential market value. Major Campaigns can provide more attractive possible rewards, but the presence of a Campaign does not improve every pack or guarantee that you will obtain a special Item.
Store content is commonly refreshed around 6 pm UK time, particularly on Fridays when major Campaign squads are often released. However, content can appear on other days or at different times. Always check the availability countdown and pack probabilities displayed in the Store.
FC 27 also introduces Holographic versions of eligible Special Items. These versions are rarer and contribute more to FUT Gallery Set scores, but their in match Attributes are identical to those of the corresponding standard Special Item.
How to Save
If you purchase FC Points regularly, an EA Play membership may reduce their price by 10%. The discount applies to eligible EA digital purchases, including FC Points, but it does not reduce the Coin or FC Points price displayed for individual Ultimate Team packs.
You can also reduce your spending by prioritising packs earned through gameplay, Objectives, SBCs and rewards. FC 27 provides a greater share of rewards through direct FUT Coins, tradeable packs and End of Match Rewards in selected modes, giving players additional ways to progress without relying on Store purchases.
Preview Packs are another safer option when available. They allow you to reveal the contents before deciding whether to buy. If the Items are worth less than the asking price, you can leave the pack unpurchased and wait for the preview countdown to expire.
Before spending Coins or FC Points, compare the offer with other available packs and check whether its contents are tradeable or untradeable. A cheaper offer is not necessarily better value if its Items cannot be sold or are unlikely to improve your Club.
Should I Buy FC 27 Packs?
When you buy a standard Ultimate Team pack, you pay for a random selection of Items without knowing exactly what you will receive. The result may be useful to your squad, valuable on the Transfer Market or worth considerably less than the purchase price.
Packs can be purchased with UT Coins or FC Points when those methods are offered. Spending Coins reduces the balance available for direct transfers, SBCs and other Club improvements. Since most packs do not return Items worth more than their price, using Coins on them is generally a high risk strategy.
FC Points are purchased separately with real money and do not provide better pack probabilities than Coins. The contents of a pack are determined by the pack type and its displayed probabilities, not by the currency used to purchase it.
In FC 27, base Bronze, Silver and Gold Items are no longer separated into Common and Rare categories. Packs therefore no longer advertise a guaranteed minimum number of Rare base Items. Some historical pack names may continue to include the word “Rare”, but this does not restore the former base rarity classification.
Whether a pack is worth buying depends on your budget, its contents, probabilities and trade status. If you decide to spend real money, establish a clear limit and never assume that repeated purchases will eventually guarantee a valuable Item.
How Profitable Can It Be?
Determining the average return of a pack requires a very large and current sample. A small number of openings can be heavily distorted by one exceptionally valuable Item, while pack contents, market prices and probabilities change throughout the Ultimate Team season.
For this reason, there is no reliable universal percentage showing how much of the purchase price players recover. Claims that packs consistently return a fixed percentage of their cost or that the remaining amount represents EA’s profit margin are not supported by the information available to players.
Profit can only be calculated meaningfully for tradeable packs. Untradeable Items cannot be sold on the Transfer Market, although they may still be useful in your squad, the FUT Gallery or SBCs. Even with a tradeable pack, the five percent Transfer Market tax must be deducted from every completed sale.
Each Store pack displays probabilities for selected Item categories or OVR thresholds. These probabilities are specific to that pack and can be updated when available content changes. They indicate the chance of receiving at least one qualifying Item, but they do not guarantee that opening a certain number of packs will produce one.
Individual Player Items with the same OVR can also have different probabilities of appearing. Consequently, the probability of obtaining an Item with a particular rating should not be interpreted as the probability of obtaining a specific player.
Never Got Lucky?
Experienced Ultimate Team players generally recognise that buying packs is an unreliable way to generate Coins or obtain a specific player. Nevertheless, social media can create a different impression because exceptional pulls are shared far more frequently than ordinary or disappointing packs.
A video showing an ICON, Hero, Holographic Item or valuable Campaign player represents one successful opening, not the typical contents of every pack. Thousands of unsuccessful openings may receive little attention, creating a distorted perception of the real probabilities.
Some players also assume that expensive squads were built primarily through Store packs. In reality, a strong Club can result from many different activities, including gameplay rewards, Objectives, SBCs, Evolutions, trading and careful squad management. The visible value of a team does not reveal how much money was spent or how many packs were opened.
Pack results are based on chance. Previous unsuccessful openings do not make the next pack more likely to contain a valuable Item unless the offer explicitly includes a separate guarantee. Always rely on the probabilities and guarantees displayed in the Store rather than individual experiences shared online.
Are Players Forced to Buy Packs?
No. Purchasing Store packs with FC Points is optional, and every player can access Ultimate Team without spending additional money. Packs, Coins and other rewards can be earned by playing matches, completing Objectives and SBCs, progressing through the Seasonal Ladder and participating in different game modes.
Ultimate Team promotes new Campaigns and Store offers through menus, notifications and social media. Content creators also frequently showcase pack openings because exceptional results attract attention. These promotions can make valuable Player Items appear more common than they actually are, so players should consult the probabilities shown for each pack before purchasing it.
Buying packs can provide entertainment and add Items to the market, but it is not the most efficient way to obtain a particular player. Building a competitive squad exclusively through random packs may require substantial time or money, while direct Transfer Market purchases offer certainty when the desired Item is tradeable.
Alternatives include earning rewards, selling tradeable Items, completing SBCs, using Evolutions and trading legitimately on the Transfer Market. Buying Coins from third parties is prohibited and can result in sanctions, but trading within the official market is a legitimate part of Ultimate Team.
Players who choose to buy FC Points should establish a spending limit, review parental or platform purchase controls where appropriate and avoid chasing losses after disappointing results. Packs should be treated as optional entertainment rather than a guaranteed investment or requirement for success.
