Live Events Explained

Live Events are limited-time competitions in FC 27 Ultimate Team that introduce themed challenges, custom rules and specific rewards.

Built around the Friendlies format, this mode offers a more relaxed alternative to Rivals and Champions. Events do not follow a single fixed schedule and may have different entry requirements, match formats and participation limits.

Depending on the event, you may need to complete specific Objectives, reach a certain Rivals Division or assemble a squad with defined ratings, leagues, nationalities, positions or Player Items.

The most popular formats include Tournaments and Gauntlets. In Tournaments, you compete in a four-match knockout run where one loss eliminates you. In Gauntlets, you continue playing until the run’s match limit is reached, usually aiming to collect as many wins as possible.

Live Events may also feature Regular Events, which are enhanced Friendlies with themed competitions. These can include unlimited-attempt Exhibitions for casual play and limited-match Leagues for more competitive action, with custom rules, themed Objectives and structured rewards.

Although Classic 11v11 gameplay is available, many Live Events introduce custom House Rules for additional variety. Individual events may also apply Match Limits or be restricted to Solo, Co-Op or open matchmaking formats.

Frequently Asked Questions

Single Player Live Events are time limited Ultimate Team events played against AI controlled opponents. They can feature themed squads, custom rules, entry requirements, Objectives and rewards, allowing players to take part in live content without playing online opponents.
If you want to play a Live Event match, follow these steps:

  1. From the Ultimate Team main screen, press R1/RB twice to go to the [Play] tab;
  2. Press [Enter Play Modes];
  3. Use R1/RB again to navigate to [Live Events].
Live Events can take different forms, with the most common being Tournaments, Gauntlets, Exhibitions and Single Player Live Events. Tournaments use a knockout format, while Gauntlets reward progress across a set number of matches. Exhibitions offer more casual themed matches, and Single Player Live Events allow you to complete challenges against AI controlled opponents.
Depending on the event, you may play one of several match types, including Classic Match, Headers & Volleys, King of the Hill, Long Range, Max Chemistry, Mystery Ball, No Rules, Survival and Swaps. Not every event includes every match type.
A Classic Match uses standard 11v11 rules and traditional gameplay, closely replicating the Kick-Off mode experience. It serves as the default match type and remains a long-time favorite for players who enjoy a more traditional style.
In this match type, only goals scored from headers or volleys count – including those from free kicks and penalties. Any goal scored with a regular shot using your feet will be disallowed.
In King of the Hill mode, players aim to maintain possession inside highlighted zones on the pitch to increase the value of their next goal. This mode emphasizes ball control and positioning rather than traditional attacking play.

Control zones appear in the attacking area. To build a scoring boost, players must enter the zone, keep the ball as it shrinks, and fill the goal value meter. Losing possession reduces the boost’s progress.

Only boosted goals contribute to the score, with a maximum multiplier of three. Since fouls are disabled, matches become more intense and reward aggressive, strategic play.
In Long Range mode, goals scored from inside the box count as one, while goals scored from outside the box count as two.
Max Chemistry gives every Player Item full Chemistry, regardless of position, league, club or nationality links. This allows you to experiment with different squad combinations without Chemistry penalties.
In Mystery Ball matches, every time the ball goes out of play, it returns with a random upgrade that gives the attacking team a strong advantage. This constant change introduces unpredictability, making each possession feel different.

Each Mystery Ball has a unique goal value, from 1 to 3, which determines how many goals are added to the score when you score. Possession also triggers attribute boosts such as Shooting, Dribbling, Passing, Sprint Speed, or a combination of them. These random effects create fast, chaotic, and entertaining matches.
No Rules uses classic 11v11 gameplay without offsides, fouls or bookings.
In Survival mode, each time a team scores, one random outfield player from that team is automatically removed from the match. The goalkeeper is never affected.
In Swaps matches, three players from each team are randomly traded at kickoff, introducing a fun and unpredictable twist to gameplay.

Swapped players wear visible bibs to distinguish them from the rest of the team. This adds strategic depth—will you gain an edge by inheriting your opponent’s star players, or adapt quickly to unfamiliar faces on your squad? Scoring with a swapped player earns 2 goals instead of one, creating high-stakes scoring opportunities.

Unlike standard modes, substitutions are disabled in Swaps, reinforcing the challenge and rewarding adaptability throughout the match.
Crossplay availability follows the FC 27 crossplay settings and the platforms supported by the specific event. It is separate from the matchmaking form used to track results.
Some Live Events allow matchmaking to use either Per Event form or Global form. Per Event form uses your record in that specific event, while Global form uses your record across other events that share the same matchmaking setting.
Selected Live Events can be played offline through Single Player Live Events. Availability depends on the active event, so always check the event details in game to see whether it supports online, single player or both formats.
Add your friend to your Friends List, open the EA Connect widget and send an invitation. The event must support the relevant Co-Op or friend matchmaking format.
