Introduction to the FIFA 17 Premier League Squad Guide

Building a team is the biggest challenge in FIFA 17 Ultimate Team. It doesn’t need to be the best team, this is because the budget may not allow it, but it needs to be the player’s stature for him to obtain success.

When choosing which players to play with, you will have to look carefully at their attributes. Choosing a team based on ratings is one of the most common mistakes on FUT 17. It’s precisely this aspect that this guide focuses on. For each position, and focusing on the truly important attributes, we’ll show you who are the best athletes to choose.

It’s also important that the player checks to see if the player he chooses fits the formations he likes to play in. For example, a good full back will be useless if the player only uses a formation with three defenders. According to these formations, the player must be cautious and look at the work rate. Try to relate them with the ones we advise in our Formations Guide.

Last but not least, it’s mandatory that you tune all of your team so that the individual and team chemistry will be as high possible. For this last step to be easier, the majority of the players start to define the type of team they’re building. Some choose to gather players of the same nationality, while others decide to form a team of players from the same league. There are also more experienced players that can form hybrid teams without damaging team chemistry a lot.

All of these steps are necessary to have; or it could mean that the team is not always well built as it could be. This article aims to help those that want to form a FIFA 17 Premier League squad. Even the players that have a EPL team, could take out some valuable conclusions from this guide that could help you make your team even better.

We received thousands of comments about similar guides that we have published in previous years. Most of them have asked us to help improve their teams and the players they had. It’s important that the readers understand that this guide is simply guidance. It’s a theme too vast and the player combinations are almost infinite. Besides, there are various factors that influence the choices, like one’s style of play, the formations used, the available budget, the preferences or even the time spent playing. There’s still one uncertain component: a good player for someone might not be for another. If there was a better team everyone would fight to get it. Part of the fun of FIFA 17 Ultimate Team is this: everyone has their personal club and players.

Another important point and that must stay very clear is that whoever is reading this guide, it’s about some criteria we chose and should be of everyone’s knowledge:

    Only Gold Players
In this guide we didn’t consider silver or bronze player. Most players don’t assume them to be a better option than gold players, so to simplify the guide’s analysis we didn’t include them. In the future we may come to publish guides exclusively talking about these qualities.
    Only Regular Players
In this guide we didn’t consider In Forms (IF). They’re extremely expensive and in most cases are not considered good value for money. They should only be used by players with generous budgets, that already have the best team possible and that want small upgrades.
    Only Normal Players
In this guide we didn’t consider players that have been transferred to other clubs or that have been reviewed (UP). Only players that started their season in the Premier League and with their original attributes were considered.
    Only Original Attributes
In this guide we didn’t consider changes made on a players performance such happens when applying training or chemistry styles cards.
    Position analysis
To make the comprehension of this guide easier we divided the players in nine distinct groups in order of their original position: Goalkeeper (GK), central backs (CB), right backs (RB and RWB), left backs (LB and LWB), central defensive midfielders (CDM) central midfielders (CM and CAM), right midfielders (RM, RW and RF), left midfielders (LM, LW and LF) and forwards (CF and ST).
    Fluctuation of Prices
In the chapter where FIFA 17 Premier League squads are suggested, we added a link where you can check anytime the updated prices.

Premier League

No league is as spectacular as the main football competition in the United Kingdom. The champions in the second biggest league in the world are made through the made points system. Whichever team gathers the most points wins the league. The top four teams gain access to the champions league of the proceeding year, while the last three trade places with the first three promoted teams from the Football League Championship. Every season starts in August and finishes in May, having 38 game weeks with 10 matches each, being a total of 380 matches per season.

The Premier League is the most watched football league in the world, broadcasted in 212 countries and in more than 600 million homes. It’s also the second football league with more assists and the second best league classified in the UEFA league coefficients.

Since the competition began in 1992 the Premier League has only been conquered by six clubs. The dominant club is Manchester United, with a total of 13 titles. London’s teams together only won the league seven times while Manchester City won it twice. The outsiders Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City did it once.

As of last season, the Premier League lost many good players such as Mikel Arteta (retired), Tim Howard (Colorado), Jovetic (Inter), Graziano Pellè (Shandong), Martin Skrtel (Fenerbahce), Mohamed Salah and Dzeko (Roma). These transfers didn’t necessarily make the league weaker. The English teams spent £1.425 million pounds on strong reinforcements. The most popular transfers were Islam Slimani and Ahmed Musa (Leicester City), Granit Xhaka and Shkodran Mustafi (Arsenal), Vincent Janssen (Tottenham Spurs), Leroy Sané, Gabriel Jesus, Ilkay Gündogan, Claudio Bravo and Nolito (Manchester City), Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Eric Bailly (Manchester United), Michy Batshuayi, David Luiz and Marcos Alonso (Chelsea). But the biggest signing of the season was made with the purchase of Pogba by the Red Devils for £105 million Euros.

The team making decisions are made tougher, but in a good way because of the vast quality of players in the league. Keep in mind since it is in the United Kingdom where FIFA 17 is played the most, the Premier League is the most seen inside game’s teams. This means it is also the most expensive league, so it is not recommended for players with a limited budget.

Best FIFA 17 Premier League Goalkeepers

GK

Goalkeepers are the players that are used least on the field. Because of this they are also first ignored when building a team. Most players start their purchases with a forward, later they strengthen the midfield, the defence and only later the goal. The truth is a good goalkeeper may be worth a lot of goals. They are a good investment because they are normally the most economically accessible players.

The goalkeepers with most prestige in the Premier League are the young stars Thibaut Courtois and David De Gea. With having the best rating they are also the most searched for by this league’s teams so this makes them more expensive.

MOST HIGH-RATED GOALKEEPERS
De Gea 90 Manchester Utd ESP
Thibaut Courtois 89 Chelsea BEL
Hugo Lloris 88 Spurs FRA
Petr Čech 88 Arsenal CZ
Steve Mandanda 85 Crystal Palace FRA
Claudio Bravo 85 Manchester City CHI
Asmir Begović 83 Chelsea BOS
Loris Karius 82 Liverpool GER
Victor Valdés 82 Middlesbrough ESP
Jack Butland 82 Stoke City ENG

When choosing a good goalkeeper it’s not only down to his rating. There are two fundamental attributes for choosing a good goalkeeper: reflexes and diving.

The first measures a goalkeeper’s agility when making a save. The best on this aspect are Hugo Lloris, De Gea and Courtois.

GOALKEEPERS WITH BEST REFLEXES
De Gea 90 Manchester Utd ESP
Hugo Lloris 90 Spurs FRA
Thibaut Courtois 89 Chelsea BEL
Adrián 86 West Ham ESP
Petr Čech 85 Arsenal CZ
Steve Mandanda 85 Crystal Palace FRA
Claudio Bravo 85 Manchester City CHI
Loris Karius 85 Liverpool GER
Jack Butland 85 Stoke City ENG
Asmir Begović 84 Chelsea BOS

Diving is a fundamental attribute when choosing a goalkeeper. It measures the capacity for a goalkeeper to make a save when jumping.

De Gea is also the best one with this attribute, with a slight advantage over Lloris and Mandanda. For those who are looking for the cheaper solution, Karius is a valid alternative.

GOALKEEPER WITH BEST DIVING
De Gea 88 Manchester Utd ESP
Hugo Lloris 87 Spurs FRA
Steve Mandanda 86 Crystal Palace FRA
Thibaut Courtois 84 Chelsea BEL
Loris Karius 84 Liverpool GER
Petr Čech 83 Arsenal CZ
Claudio Bravo 83 Manchester City CHI
Asmir Begović 83 Chelsea BOS
David Ospina 83 Arsenal COL
Gomes 83 Watford BRA

The most experienced Ultimate Team players know that another leaning factor on a goalkeeper’s performance without considering the remaining four attributes: height. The more tall a goalkeeper is, better his chances of having a clean sheet.

This is where Courtois is better than De Gea. Even though he can’t be considered a short goalkeeper, the truth is United’s goalkeeper is 10 cm short of the mighty Costel Pantilimon, this gold goalkeeper holds the title of tallest Premier League Goalkeeper. Cech is a very tall goalkeeper while Lloris, Mandada and Claudio Bravo make all part of the shortest goalkpeers of this league.

TALLEST GOALKEEPERS
Costel Pantilimon 203 / 6′8″ Watford ROM
Fraser Forster 201 / 6′7″ Southampton ENG
Asmir Begović 200 / 6′7″ Chelsea BOS
Thibaut Courtois 199 / 6′6″ Chelsea BEL
Wayne Hennessey 198 / 6′6″ Crystal Palace WAL
Maarten Stekelenburg 197 / 6′6″ Everton NED
Jack Butland 196 / 6′5″ Stoke City ENG
Petr Čech 196 / 6′5″ Arsenal CZ
Joel Robles 195 / 6′5″ Everton ESP
Ben Foster 193 / 6′4″ West Brom ENG
Simon Mignolet 193 / 6′4″ Liverpool BEL
Artur Boruc 193 / 6′4″ Bournemouth POL
Alex McCarthy 193 / 6′4″ Southampton ENG
Brad Guzan 193 / 6′4″ Middlesbrough USA
De Gea 193 / 6′4″ Manchester Utd ESP

De Gea is undoubtedly the best option to the goal. He has the best reflexes and diving, the two most important attributes, in the entire Premier League. It’s much more difficult to pick the second best goalkeeper. In our opinion, this position is in good hands (literally) whether you choose Thibaut Courtois or Hugo Lloris. The two goalkeepers are similar stat-wise for the most important attributes. If we had to pick one, it would be Coutois because he is much taller.

In terms of cheaper goalkeepers, our suggestion is Asmir Begović, the third tallest of Premier League. For those who want an even cheaper option, Karius is also a good alternative.

Best FIFA 17 Premier League Centre Backs

CB

A goalkeeper task is made easier if in front of him are quality central backs. Their function is to stop the opponent from getting dangerously close to your team’s goal.

Vincent Kompany is the centre back with best reputation in the Premier League.

HIGHEST RATED CENTRE BACKS
Vincent Kompany 86 Manchester City BEL
Laurent Koscielny 85 Arsenal FRA
Nicolás Otamendi 85 Manchester City ARG
Toby Alderweireld 85 Spurs BEL
Chris Smalling 84 Manchester Utd ENG
John Terry 84 Chelsea ENG
David Luiz 84 Chelsea BRA
Shkodran Mustafi 83 Arsenal GER
Per Mertesacker 83 Arsenal GER
Jan Vertonghen 83 Spurs BEL
Ashley Williams 83 Everton WAL
Gary Cahill 83 Chelsea ENG
José Fonte 83 Southampton POR
Dejan Lovren 82 Liverpool CRO
Eric Bailly 82 Manchester Utd IVC

On a centre back, two attributes assume particular importance on their performance: defending and physical, which represents strength, stamina, aggression and jumping.

A player with good at defending will have an easier chance of dispossessing the opponent and avoid him reaching your box.

It’s the case of the two best rated players, Kompany and and Terry, and also Mertesacker. It’s really hard to get past them. The most experienced players are normally those who have a higher rating with this attribute..

CENTRE BACKS WITH BEST DEFENDING
Per Mertesacker 88 Arsenal GER
Vincent Kompany 86 Manchester City BEL
Toby Alderweireld 86 Spurs BEL
John Terry 86 Chelsea ENG
Laurent Koscielny 85 Arsenal FRA

Joel Matip 84 Liverpool CAM
Shkodran Mustafi 83 Arsenal GER
Jan Vertonghen 83 Spurs BEL
Phil Jagielka 83 Everton ENG
Angelo Ogbonna 83 West Ham ITA
David Luiz 82 Chelsea BRA

The physical attribute shows the old heading capability but also how likely the players are to win game with their body. This is a crucial attribute when looking for the best centre back.

In this chapter Huth is the strongest one.

CENTRE BACKS WITH BEST PHYSICAL
Robert Huth 86 Leicester City GER
Chris Smalling 84 Manchester Utd ENG
Mamadou Sakho 84 Liverpool FRA
Ryan Shawcross 84 Stoke City ENG
Eric Bailly 83 Manchester Utd IVC
Wes Morgan 83 Leicester City JAM
Virgil van Dijk 83 Southampton NED
Nicolás Otamendi 82 Manchester City ARG
Ashley Williams 82 Everton WAL
Papy Djilobodji 82 Sunderland SEN
Lamine Koné 82 Sunderland IVC
Vincent Kompany 81 Manchester City BEL
Jan Vertonghen 81 Spurs BEL
Phil Jagielka 81 Everton ENG
Dejan Lovren 81 Liverpool CRO

Defending and heading may be useless against fast opponents. It’s necessary to fight fire with fire. No one likes feeling impotent when seeing you get overrun by extremely fast players. Even though, in a way, centre backs aren’t that fast, every team needs one of these players with a high pace attribute.

This is where Terry and Mertesacker are weak. There are much faster players in the Premier League. The first on the list is Eric Bailly, a great addition to this league.

CENTRE BACKS WITH BEST PACE
Eric Bailly 81 Manchester Utd IVC
Laurent Koscielny 78 Arsenal FRA
Christian Kabasele 78 Watford BEL
Chris Smalling 77 Manchester Utd ENG
John Stones 75 Manchester City ENG
David Luiz 73 Chelsea BRA
Winston Reid 73 West Ham NZL
Kurt Zouma 73 Chelsea FRA
Luís Hernández 73 Leicester City ESP
Nicolás Otamendi 72 Manchester City ARG
Joel Matip 72 Liverpool CAM
Angelo Ogbonna 72 West Ham ITA
Ramiro Funes Mori 72 Everton ARG
Papy Djilobodji 71 Sunderland SEN
Ashley Williams 70 Everton WAL

Koscielny is the best centre back of this game. If you need pace, his team mate should be Eric Bailly. Otherwise, use Kompany. They are three of the most expensive of all centre backs in the Premier League for a good reason.

In our opinion, Otamendi, Smalling and David Luiz are the centre backs who are closest to the trio in terms of overall quality.

Pace is still very important in FIFA 17 and for that reason, unless you play with three centre backs, we suggest you avoid using Terry and other very slow defenders, like Mertesacker.

Best FIFA 17 Premier League Right Backs

RB | RWB

Full backs have the role of troubling the job of wingers. In addition, good full backs also support their team mates on offensive manoeuvres.

Choosing the best right back for a Premier League Team is an extremely hard choice. There are various valid options depending on the style of play.

HIGHEST RATED RIGHT BACKS
Pablo Zabaleta 82 Manchester City ARG
Bacary Sagna 82 Manchester City FRA
Séamus Coleman 82 Everton IRL
Kyle Walker 81 Spurs ENG
Nathaniel Clyne 81 Liverpool ENG
Branislav Ivanović 80 Chelsea SRB
Mathieu Debuchy 80 Arsenal FRA
Antonio Valencia 80 Manchester Utd ECU
Matteo Darmian 80 Manchester Utd ITA
Héctor Bellerín 79 Arsenal ESP

There are very important attributes for any right back: defending and pace.

Since they’re defenders they should have good defending capacities. This reduces a team’s risk of conceding.

Ivanovic is the player that best fits this aspect. The only other player that offers him any type of competition is the City’s Pablo Zabaleta.

RIGHT BACKS WITH BEST DEFENDING
Branislav Ivanović 86 Chelsea SRB
Pablo Zabaleta 84 Manchester City ARG
Bacary Sagna 82 Manchester City FRA
Séamus Coleman 81 Everton IRL
Matteo Darmian 80 Manchester Utd ITA
Arbeloa 80 West Ham ESP
Nathaniel Clyne 79 Liverpool ENG
Mathieu Debuchy 79 Arsenal FRA
Àngel Rangel 79 Swansea City ESP
Kyle Walker 78 Spurs ENG

A flanked game tends to be faster than a game based in the middle of the field. The players that fill these spaces are obligated to be fast, both penetrating defensive and attacking moves of the team. Pace is one of the most important requirements for a good full back. Even in FIFA 17.

Bellerín is the fastest Premier League player in FIFA 17 Ultimate Team. In the entire game, only Aubameyang and Bolly are faster than him. The Spanish international player is far superior in this aspect when compared to every EPL full back. Besides Bellerín, only Kyle Walker may be considered reasonably fast.

RIGHT BACKS WITH BEST PACE
Héctor Bellerín 95 Arsenal ESP
Kyle Walker 90 Spurs ENG
Nathaniel Clyne 86 Liverpool ENG
Antonio Valencia 84 Manchester Utd ECU
Brice Dja Djédjé 82 Watford IVC
Manquillo 81 Sunderland ESP
Matteo Darmian 80 Manchester Utd ITA
Séamus Coleman 79 Everton IRL
Jérémy Pied 78 Southampton FRA
Cédric 78 Southampton POR

Pablo Zabaleta is the highest rated right back but once again, that doesn’t necessarily mean he is the best choice for this position. In our opinion, he and Ivanović are the kind of players who have good ratings but are not recommended as attacking full backs.

On the other hand there are players like Kyle Walker and Héctor Bellerín. They have a fantastic pace and their high attacking work rate make them good players for those that use full backs as second wingers. They are our top choices.

For those who want an intermediate solution, in other words a player that defends and attacks well, we advise Séamus Coleman. He is a very balanced athlete, a cheaper player and, as a result, our economic choice.

Best FIFA 17 Premier League Left Backs

LB | LWB

Left backs have exactly the same role of their team mates on the other flank. In other words, they try to make a winger’s job hard and participate in the team’s offensive manoeuvres.

There are two Premier League players that stand out in this position: the solid Leighton Baines and the ‘Blue’ Azpilicueta.

HIGHEST RATED LEFT BACKS
Azpilicueta 84 Chelsea ESP

Kieran Gibbs 80 Arsenal ENG
Luke Shaw 80 Manchester Utd ENG
Ryan Bertrand 79 Southampton ENG
Aleksandar Kolarov 79 Manchester City SRB

Azpilicueta is clearly the left back who defends better in this league.

The promising, Anfield tied Alberto Moreno is the fastest left back in the English league. He makes his speed his biggest threat, and only Patrick van Aanholt can be compared with him in this stat.

Danny Rose 82 Spurs ENG
Luke Shaw 82 Manchester Utd ENG
Pape Souaré 82 Crystal Palace SEN
Andrew Robertson 82 Hull City SCO
Kieran Gibbs 81 Arsenal ENG

Azpilicueta and Leighton Baines are with no question the best left back choices playing in the Premier League. Azpilicueta is faster, but the Englishman is generally a more complete player.

Shaw, Gibbs and Rose are valid alternatives to these two left backs. It’s not easy to find the differences between these three players.

Of all the remaining players, Pape Souaré is our cheap choice. He lacks a little in quality compared to those mentioned above but he’s fast enough to cause some offensive damage, has remarkable long shots and possesses reasonable defending.

Best FIFA 17 Premier League Defensive Midfielder

CDM

Many of the FIFA 17 Ultimate Team formations require some midfielders that have a natural aptitude to defend. Central defensive midfielders distinguish themselves for being especially aimed to help the more retreated line of their teams. According to their attributes and their work rates, they can also be useful for starting attacks. They are players that occupy a very strategic position in the field.

As it happened in FIFA 16, Matic and Morgan Schneiderlin are the players highest rated in this position.

HIGHEST RATED CENTRAL DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDERS
Nemanja Matić 84 Chelsea SRB
Morgan Schneiderlin 82 Manchester Utd FRA
Michael Carrick 81 Manchester Utd ENG

Fernando 79 Manchester City BRA
Eric Dier 78 Spurs ENG
Lee Cattermole 78 Sunderland ENG
Jack Cork 78 Swansea City ENG
Etienne Capoue 78 Watford FRA
Jordy Clasie 78 Southampton NED

There are a variety of attributes in a central defensive midfielder that you have to give attention: defending, so that the first defender of team works; strength, so that you win all brawls in a prone area of the field; heading, to win possession in aerial moves like goal kicks; pace, so that you cover the most terrain on the field as possible; stamina, so they can equally participate in offensive and defensive moves (especially useful for players with high/high work rates); passing and possession so that he can properly start attacks. In our opinion the two first are the most important.

Normally using a central defensive midfielder is associated with having a deficit of elements in your defence. So, it makes sense that when you search for a player to occupy this position you’d want players that can defend.

The best central defensive midfielder plays for Chelsea: Matic. He is a good choice for teams that want to complicate an opponent’s game in the space between the midfield and the defence.

CENTRAL DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDERS WITH BEST DEFENDING
Nemanja Matić 81 Chelsea SRB
Morgan Schneiderlin 80 Manchester Utd FRA

Etienne Capoue 76 Watford FRA
Lee Cattermole 76 Sunderland ENG

The area of the field occupied by the central defensive midfielders is the one where most ball disputes happen. Strong players will have a higher probability of winning the ball.

There’s a lot of muscle between the Premier League. Wanyama, Matic, Obi Mikel e Kouyaté are good examples of that. On the other hand there’s Michael Carrick. Even though he’s a very good passer, he rarely wins a physical brawl due to being the weakest central defensive midfielder in the EPL.

In our opinion, Matic is the right choice for this position. He is the CDM who gives more security to the back line but he is also a good offensive player.

There are also good options that are available at a cheap price who are still good quality-wise, like Morgan Schneiderlin.

Best FIFA 17 Premier League Centre Midfielders

CM | CAM

A lot of games are decided in the midfield and not close to the goals. The players that play in these zones are the ones that should create the game and define its rhythm.

It’s in midfield that there’s more quality in the Premier League. Some of the world’s best footballers play there. It’s the case of the Ozil, David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and the newcomer Paul Pogba.

Centre midfielders are responsible for discovering lines that break the opponents defence. Their passing quality has to be really good so they can assist forwards.

Even though David Silva, Ozil and De Bruyne have a great passing stat, Fábregas is the one who does it better in the whole Premier League.

A Centre midfielder usually needs creativity. Good dribbling allows the team to move forward, creating potential disequilibrium’s.

David Silva and Coutinho are not alone anymore in the top of this list. Pogba and Gündoğan joined them among the best dribblers of the Premier League..

Pogba is the player that everyone wants to their teams. He stands out to be so good on the attack as he is on the defence.

Kevin de Bruyne is the second most interesting player in the Premier League midfield. He is level with the best players in various attributes including passing, shooting, vision, crossing and stamina making him our pick.

Ozil is our third choice. His passing, dribbling, vision and ball control are simply amazing but is let down slightly by his 2 star weak foot.

Another top player is Yaya Touré in large part because of his amazing strength and stamina. Just like Gündoğan, he is a very balanced player suitable for who use the midfielders to defend. If you prefer someone more attacking, pick Coutinho, another player well above the average.

Oscar and Eriksen are cheaper players that can perform well as centre midfielders.

Our budget choices falls to Eriksen and Jack Wilshere, great examples of good value for money.

Best FIFA 17 Premier League Right Wingers

RM | RW | RF

The wingers are responsible for giving game width in the attack. They’re normally very explosive players.

Willian, Mahrez and Mkhitaryan are the most popular right wingers of this league.

HIGHEST RATED RIGHT WINGERS
Willian 85 RM Chelsea
Riyad Mahrez 85 RM Leicester City
Henrikh Mkhitaryan 85 RM Manchester Utd
Xherdan Shaqiri 82 RM Stoke City
Deulofeu 81 RM Everton
Erik Lamela 81 RM Spurs
Moussa Sissoko 80 RM Spurs
Sofiane Feghouli 80 RW West Ham
André Ayew 80 RM West Ham
Jesús Navas 80 RM Manchester City
Gökhan Töre 79 RM West Ham
Leroy Sané 79 RM Manchester City
Wilfried Zaha 79 RM Crystal Palace
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 79 RM Arsenal
Sadio Mané 79 RM Liverpool

There are three fundamental attributes for a winger: pace, dribbling and passing.

Pace is probably the biggest weapon of these players. They use it to evade opponents and getting to the other side, many times via sprints on the side lines.

The Premier League is extremely well served in this chapter: four gold players have pace over 90.

Just being fast doesn’t cut it to reach the opponents box, having good dribbling to surpass the opponents’ players that appear on the way.

There are a lot of players gifted in dribbling, being Mahrez the best.

RIGHT WINGERS WITH BEST DRIBLLING
Riyad Mahrez 88 Leicester City ALG

When reaching the opponents box the winger has to decide what to do. Normally, they choose to cross to the forwards. That is why it’s important for them to have good passing.

The weakest point of the Premier League Wingers is surprising – passing. Only Mkhitaryan, Willian and Mahrez offers good quality passing. Dyer and Barrow, for example, could’ve been an option to consider filling this slot in virtue of their fantastic pace and dribbling, but they are affected negatively for missing frequently passes to their more forward team mates.

RIGHT WINGERS WITH BEST PASSING
Henrikh Mkhitaryan 81 Manchester Utd ARM
Willian 80 Chelsea BRA

Willian is our favourite to occupy this position in a team without budget restraints. He may not the best in any of the base attributes but he is always close to the top in this position.

The best alternative to him is Mkhitaryan. He can be compared to Mahrez but he is stronger and is more active in game.

From the most popular there is also Shaqiri. The Swiss player is a very balanced player and for that reason an option you should not dismiss.

For those with a more modest coin total, there is Deulofeu. This four star skiller is as fast as Sané, has better dribbling than Willian and has better physical stats than Mahrez and Navas making him great value for money.

Best FIFA 17 Premier League Left Wingers

The left wingers have exactly the same role as their team mates from the other side.

Hazard, Alexis Sánchez and Payet are the three most popular players in this position.

Just like it happens in the opposite side, the Premier League left wingers are extremely fast. There are six players playing in this position with pace equal or higher than 90.

There’s a proportional quality between the left winger and his dribbling. It’s natural that Hazard and Alexis Sánchez are the ones most highlighted in this chapter.

Hazard’s price prohibits him from being affordable for most, proving the worth of the player. He is without a doubt the best Premier League left winger. He’s the best dribbler, one of the fastest and only Sánchez is better at shooting and Payet at passing than him. He possesses a series of other highly rated attributes such as balance, agility, acceleration and ball control.

For those who don’t want to pay so much for the Belgian, we suggest Sánchez. It’s impossible to talk about this player without comparing him to Hazard. He is not as good as the Chelsea’s winger overall but is far better value for money.

Payet, Martial and Sterling are cheaper alternatives to Hazard and Sánchez. Sterling, despite being in out top 5 preferences, is too expensive for what he add to a team. For a third of his price it is possible to purchase Depay, much better value for money than the City winger.

Kevin Mirallas is the most complete affordable player and for that reason, our cheapest choice. He is faster than Sánchez and has better shooting and passing than Sterling. A great player especially for low budget teams.

Best FIFA 17 Premier League Forwards

The forwards are the players on which fall the most responsibility of scoring goals.

In the Premier League, the most popular are players that could play in any club in the world: Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Sergio Aguero.

To score goals shooting is necessary. If either by foot or head, the most important attribute for a forward are: shooting, heading and pace.

Most goals are scored with the foot so good shooting is a necessary attribute for a forward.

The best forwards are the ones that best shooting: Ibrahimovic and Aguero.

Jump, strength and stamina are the ingredients to the new physical attribute, very important when we are analysing the best forwards: jump to score with the head; strength to dispute the ball with the opponents; and stamina to sprint in direction of goal at any time of the game.

That’s here where we see that Diego Costa and Slimani are great players. Aguero, for example, is almost in the bottom of this list.

Depending on the style of play and formation, having good shooting and heading may not be enough for a striker. Especially in games that privilege counter-attack, pace is a very important attribute.

Vardy and Musa are the fastest strikers in the English league. However, Aguero and Sturridge are also very fast players. In other hand, Ibrahimovic is one of the slowest strikers.

For the final position, we believe that Sergio Agüero and Ibrahimovic are the best EPL strikers. However, the Manchester City player has the advantage due to his better pace. Zlatan is a unique player but his pace may not be enough for who has a fast playing style.

For many players, Diego Costa is the third best striker of this league, but we don’t share of the same opinion. Even having a dangerous high/high work rate, Vardy can be better than him. The same happens to Sturridge, who is less strong and aggressive than the Chelsea’s player. In our opinion, even Lukaku plays better than him and with the advantage of being much cheaper.

Far from the quality of these strikers, Welbeck is our economical choice. He and Benteke may cause a lot of damage on the opponents defence with their extraordinary strength and otherwise well rounded stats.

FIFA 17 Premier League Squad Suggestions

A lot of people think that this is the most important part of the guide. It’s not. The thing that is really important to know is how to choose players based on their role and style of play that fits each player. The team suggestions that follow are simple graphic indicators of what we wrote previously. They should serve merely as orientation because it’s impossible to build a team that fits everyone. They depend on various factors we don’t know such as budget, formation, style of play and player preferences.

To try and explore the needs of the maximum player as possible we suggest three teams with different budgets and formations: 4-1-2-1-2 with unlimited budget, 4-3-3 with medium budget and 4-4-2 with a low budget.

Summary

The choice for this team’s players was based on the analysis made previously.

De Gea is the natural choice to the goal. However, who to put as his replacement presents one of the most difficult decisions. Lloris and Courtois are both amazing goalkeepers and you will be fine with either of them.

Koscielny is the boss of the back four. Kompany is still good enough to play in the starting eleven but, if you need someone faster, pick Bailly. He is a great addition to this league, especially considering the lack of quality fast players in this position. Kyle Walker imposes himself with his tremendous pace to be our choice at the right back position, while at left back Azpilicueta and Baines are both good enough to take the position.

Although Pogba is originally a CM in FUT 17, he also plays well as CDM. You may think that it is a waste have a so amazing player as him in this position, but it is the best way to not relegate De Bruyne to the bench. The Belgium midfielder is incredibly good.

Once again, the Chelea’s players Willian and Hazard are the right choices to the wings. Now, more than ever, they are so brilliant that they are second to none in these positions.

If your budget allows you, Agüero and Ibrahimovic are the obvious choices for the attack line. Excepting Pogba, they are clearly the most expensive players in the league, which is a reflection of just how good they are. If Ibrahimovic is not fast enough for you, even with a chemistry style applied that improves the pace, use Vardy.

Once all the players reach maximum individual chemistry via loyalty (achieved by each player after 10 matches for your club or by being pack pulled) you can go without a manager for your squad. They’ll be of no use while wasting contracts.

Summary

The choices for this more affordable team players was based on analysis made previously.

In goal, Lloris and Courtois are too expensive to this squad. Claudio Bravo is not a tall goalkeeper but he is good enough to keep your goal safe.

Bailly and Smalling are both fast and solid defensively. Azpilicueta’s assertiveness and Walker’s speed completes our defending foursome.

Matic wasn’t in the unlimited budget squad because of Pogba but in this squad he has to be there. He has the muscle that every midfield needs. Eriksen and Wilshere complete the midfield.

Mané and Sané are very popular right midfielders but, in our opinion, Deulofeu and Shaqiri are better than them. Depay wins the spot on the left side. Mkhitaryan and Sterling are too expensive to this squad.

Over the attack line, Lukaku is an excellent but also expensive choice.
His pace, strength and completeness are great but if your budget doesn’t allow you to use him, pick Harry Kane as replacement. Excepting pace, he has amazing stats.

If you still have some room in your budget, Koscielny, Mkhitaryan, Gündogan and Sterling are players that would improve this squad a lot.

Summary

The choice for this budget team was based on analysis made previously.

Begovic is the most expensive player in this squad but you don’t want to concede goals, right?

The same goes for the rest of the defence: Zouma, Reid, Shaw and Darmian are not the cheapest ones but they worth the investment.

In the midfield, Schneiderlin and Jack Wilshere complement each other well. The first one is strong, quick and aggressive, the second is a player that usually pushes forward to assist his colleagues. Deulofeu (what a bargain!) and Mirallas fill the wings in order to assist Welbeck and Benteke who have both been chosen for their combination of pace and strength.

      1. hi rodrigo.

moved to div 3 now.. as things get more difficult now i changed to the formation 4231 so koscielny would be a great addition. as for mahrez is concerned i got miktharian for shaqiri. do you think that it would be best to use simultaneously mahrez mktihtaryan and payet using payet as a cm in the 3 in midfield in the place of eriksen for example?

  5. Hi Rodrigo,

Thanks for your fantastic guide. I’m playing a 4-3-3(4) formation and I was wondering which of these guys to use. (Budget 250k team)

    Lloris- Walker, Koscielny, Luiz/Kompany, Azpi- Kante/Matic, Rooney/Coutinho, Gundogan/Dembele- Mkhitaryan, Lukaku/Vardy/Sturridge, Martial/Payet.

    Thank you!

      1. Hey thanks for the reply, since your formation guide is out I think it’s best to change my formation to 4-5-1 since i play a lot of possession and build up passing.

So should my team look like

Lloris- Walker, Kompany, Koscielny, Azpi, Kante, Mkhitaryan, Martial- Gundogan, Coutinho- Vardy

do you think this training is better than that of the PL?
I read your articles on the various samples and formations, I find them really useful! Sorry for bad English

        1. Hi. If Matuidi get a good chemistry, then it is a good option. Movember cards are good cards because they boost physical in 5 points and this attribute is very important this year.
Kompany with the right chemistry style should be enough.

  8. Hey there. What’s your opinion on putting musa instead of vardy. In addition is eriksen good for can and kante good for cdm?

    1. I always use you guides and have been playing 433 (4) but with various results. I setting up a new 433 team:

      Martial – Remy – sissoko
Dembele – emre can – eriksen
Azpi- smalling – bailly – valencia
      Begović

Appreciate your thoughts? Your guide is very helpful

        1. Thanks for the reply, i sold remy as he was really week. Got welbeck and seems to be better all round than remy. I will save up for Matic.

          Also changed the formation to

          Martial – welbeck – sissoko
Dembele – emra can (Matic) – eriksen
          Azli – smalling – Bailly – valencia

  11. Hi Rodrigo
Thanks for the amazing advice. I just wonder if you could help me with my team, if you can suggest any changes needed in the team, formation or tactics. I mainly struggle with defending and I just can’t tackle the opponents. And I also struggle with scoring goals.
    I play a 343 formation
    GK:Karius
    CBS: Huth, Sakho,stones
    Cms:Oscar,xhaka
    LM:Payet
    RM:Zaha
    LW:Walcott
    RW: Musa
    ST:Firmino
I have a medium budget, I’m just not sure of who to buy and I don’t want to buy someone that won’t fit in my team.??? And do you know of any advice you could give me in being able to score more goals and to tackle my opponents??

    1. Hi. Thank you.
First of all, formation and tactics depend of your play style and preferences. However, if you are conceding many goals, maybe you should try another formation. I suggest you a radical chance to 532. You will be able to counter-attack with more success than the one you are having now. You should try a few players we suggested in our guide, like Zouma and Wilshere.

  12. Hi Rodrigo,
I finally decide to change my formation for 5-3-2, it could seem weird but I like this formation, it permits me to defende without so much stress and attack with enough players.
But now my trouble is to pick good midfielders (MC) for that and I need you 😉
    Here is the team :

    Bravo
    Walker – Smalling – Bailly – Shaw
    ????? Kanté/Eriksen/Herrera/Pereyra/Fernandinho/Henderson/Can/Ramsey/Wilshere/Dembele ?????
    Musa – Kane

I have so many choices and it’s hard to decide. I was playing Matic in MC before but in this formation he is too slow and I don’t need a defender on middle, just players who create occasions and can come back also but not that much.

Thank you so much for your answer !

    1. Hi.
532 is one of the formations I like to play.
I think you missed a CB. Do you want to know which 3 players you should to pick from Kanté/Eriksen/Herrera/Pereyra/Fernandinho/Henderson/Can/Ramsey/Wilshere/Dembele. Am I correct?
It depends of your play style, but I believe you could pick Kanté to the middle (unless you think you don’t need any help on the defence), Eriksen and Oscar.
      Regards

      1. Thank you for your answer 😉
        Sorry I missed a CB it’s Matip
I had in my mind to get in priority players which have high workrates and 4* in weak foot too. I didn’t think about Oscar I will try.

  13. Hi was wondering if you could tell me what you would begin with improving my team, have 70k to spend. Was looking at ottamendi or willian. LM I’m not sure who there is that would be a good it looking to get and inform Mane (82)
    41212
    Hart
    Walker smalling cahill apzeluletta
    Matic
    Deloufou wallcott
    Lukaku vardy

  14. I play a tika taka style in a narrow 4-1-2-1-2 (2) formation. My front 6 are:
    Kante (CDM)
    Gundogan and Eriksen (CM)
    De Bruyne (CAM)
    Lukaku and Vardy (ST)

I’m currently on 270k coins and working my way slowly to Aguero (c. 450k). Do you reckon this is the right approach, or should I sell De Bruyne and Lukaku and get David Silva and Aguero now instead?

I can then get De Bruyne back once I’ve saved another 200k.

  15. Hi Rodrigo,

May i know why do you listed sterling as your #5 choice instead of walcott? From what i see walcott has better shooting, passing and physicality, only loses out slightly in the dribbling and defending department. Well sterling also only has 2 star weak foot but has 4 star weak foot which is better than walcott. Lastly, walcott is also a tad taller. Overall i just don see why the community don rate walcott. Heck even the pricing also has a big difference, only because he is more famous? Is he really better than walcott? Really wondering.

    Regards,
    Hanazul

    1. Hi.
First of all, we agree about Sterling being too expensive: “Sterling, despite being in out top 5 preferences, is too expensive for what he add to a team.”
Height is not important for a player in a position like this. In fact, the three most important are pace, dribbling and passing. Steling is better than Walcott in the sum of these three. Besides that, he is also better in a few important stats for a winger, like ball control and balance.

      1. Hi Rodrigo,

Thanks for the reply. I respect your opinions because your guide helps me alot throughout fifa16.

I would like to know if shooting is not important for a winger? sterling has only 73 finishing while walcott 82, and i rmb walcott has better crossing stats. i play 4-3-3 (2) and i use my winger to cut in to penalty box either cross to middle or do the finishing if allowed, do you think sterling would be better than walcott in my team? Coins is not a problem, is just i doubt whether he is worth trying. (well i tried martial and felt he is sluggish i duno why lol)

        Regard,
        Hanazul

        1. Hi again.
If you use your wingers to cut inside the area, shooting is important, and in that case Walcott may be as good as Sterling.
When we can’t decide between two players, the best thing to do is to try both.
          Regards

        2. I personally didn’t like playing with Walcott. I actually found Depay played better for me.
I definitely found Sterling better than these two for his speed round the outside and ability to cut inside at lightning speeds, however his phys was too low so he kept getting bullied off the ball against good defenders. He’s great in space but his inability to out-muscle anyone makes him poor value for me. I find Martial to be the best all-round LW (behind Hazard & Sanchez). His shooting isn’t great but his strength makes him better when shooting under pressure in my experience.

Depends on your style of play.

  16. hello may I ask for your help with my squad?
    I use 4-3-2-1 and here’s my squad;
    vardy
    martial mahrez
    hernanes matic cazorla
    azpi-smalling-mustafi-coleman
    bravo
    subs:begovic,baines,vertonghen,bailly,valencia,henderson,xhaka,ramsey,sterling,mkhitaryan,remy

actually ı think my cm which is playing defancive is not enough and my forwards also. What can you suggest for my team to change ? thx ^^

  17. Hi there! I think many others got the question like me: Would you prefer to get SBC Payet over De Bryune/Ozil or in a combination of one of those two? Lets say you can get the halloween cards for 30-40k each.

    Thanks man! 🙂

    Regards,
    Jim

      1. SBC Payet, De Bryune and Ozil. What would be the best two players to go for if you play the 4-1-2-1-2 (2)? 🙂

        1. I play the same formation, and Ozil’s work rate isn’t good enough for me. De Bruyne is my CAM and he’s brilliant. I’ve currently got Gundogan and Eriksen as my two CMs. I’ve got normal Payet as my sub (he’s out of position if he starts at CM), and I’ll upgrade Eriksen to Pogba when I can afford him.

          1. Thank you both for replying. I don’t know it’s worth doing it now since pricing is not below 40k no longer, but something like 50k+. And there is also just 2 hours left. Hehe 🙂

  18. Great stuff Rodrigo. Been following you for years. I followed your guide and have this team so am hoping you could suggest the next few improvements-

    433(4)
    Courtois
    Walker Bailly Kosc Azpili
    Eriksen Matic
    Firmino (Cam)
    Mane (82-OTW) Sturridge Son (SBC)

Subs: Begovic Matip Wilshere Barkley Mirallas Shaqiri Origi

Sometimes I also play a 433(2), with wilshere replacing firmino. I had vardy before, but felt Sturridge is a better fit for me. I tend to play through the wingers hence why I like pace in them (tried Mkhitaryan before but maybe i don’t know how to use him effectively). I have about 80k now.

    1. How do you think I can improve the team, or maybe the squad?

    2. What do you think about the sbc son and otw mane? I saw in the other comments you said the sbc cards are okay?

    3. The market seems negative now. Do you think it will go down even more after fut united/toty?

    1. Hi. Thank you very much for your support!
      1) There is no much to improve without spending a good amount of coins. Gundogan, Toure and Kante are all of them good improvements but cost you probably much more than you want to spend.
      2) Son SBC that’s an untradeable card so it’s difficult to me to say to send it to trash. There are other good cards for that position for that price your cards are unbeatable.
      3) Yes! Prices will drop much more in FUT United, FUTMas and TOTY. 99% sure!

      1. Thanks for the quick reply!

        1. Yeah I had a feeling my midfield might be the next area to invest in. Some games my mid is bypassed easily. Will save up and buy them during the cheaper times!

        2. Understand. Would you say I should get Sanchez when he’s more affordable?

Thanks again and have a great weekend!

  19. I just bought De Bruyne as a CAM for my 4-1-2-1-2 (2) formation. What chemistry style do you thing would be best for him?

  20. Hi Rodrigo,
First of all great article, any tips or improvements for my team? I Have 120k spend I play 4 1 2 1 2 (2) but unsure about lack of width.

    Cech
    Walker Koch kompany aszip
    Kante
    Toure cazorla
    silva
    Rooney Sturridge

    Subs…
    Matic
    Fabregas
    bailly
    rashford
    Martial
    Mata
    sane

  21. Hi Rodrigo,
Thank you so much for your guide it’s an amazing job and I get great pleasure to follow you every year.
I was wondering, for my team squad I play in 4.4.2 with LM CM and RM on the middle but I don’t arrive to decide which LM and RM pick between Mirallas/Deulofeu and Arnautovic and Sissoko. I am playing with Fernandino and Can as a CM.
Thank you so much in advance for your help 😉

    1. Thank you for following us.
Between Mirallas and Arnautovic, I am sure that Mirallas is a better choice. In the opposite side, Sissoko is more balanced player and for most of the cases he will be a better choice than Deulofeu.
      Regards

  22. Hi rodrigo I want to ask for a suggestion, I am using 4-3-2-1 formation

    CMM- Matic (shadow)
    CML- dembele (cata)
    LF- SBC son (hunter)
    RF- Mahrez(hunter)
    ST- Lukaku(hunter)

Which player should I replace (better value to money) and do u have suggestion for the chemistry style?

      1. is it alright to use catalyst for CM because in your guide you are suggesting catalyst for winger?

        1. We published generic suggestions. You can use catalyst for a CM if you think that your player needs to be faster, for example. It depends of many factors, including the player stats, team mates, formation, your play style, etc…

  23. Hey love the post was wondering if you had any suggestions for my current squad got a 4-2-3-1(2)
    Back 4

    Wilson/rashford-giroud/slimani
I have 20k and saving up for bailly to replace Hernandez any thoughts?

      1. I’ve got bailly now and shaqiri for zaha and I have matic who should I look to replace next

  25. Hi, I have two bpl teams with one being stronger than the other.I play 433(4) for both teams.
    GK:Begovic
    RB:Darmian
    CB:Reid
    CB:Zouma
    LB:Shaw
    CM:Toure(untradeable)
    CM:Wilshire

    LW:Mirallas
    ST:Remy

1.Is there any changes I should make.
2.Who should I save up for in the future.

    1. Hi.
Your teams are very similar to the ones we suggested and for that reason there are no much to change. Maybe Darmian by Valencia, only.
Next target? Benteke to the first team.

    2. Hey rodrigo! I would be glad if you could tell me which player would be my next upgrade for my team.
      I play 433(2)
      Karius
      Valencia
      Reid
      Mustafi
      Rose
      Mccarthy
      Ramaey
      Oscar
      Shaquiri
      Batshuayi
      Sterling

      Thanks for your dedication!!!
      Santiago

      1. Hi.
I like your team. It’s not easy to improve it without spending coins, which is a good thing.
As soon as you save a few coins, try to use Matic insted of McCarthy.
        Regards

          1. It depends if you want to make coins or to have fun. If you sell it now and buy it back one or two days before Black Friday, you will probably save a good amount of coins, depending of your team.

  26. hi.
i need help… any improvement can i make? now my line up be like this.

    GK – Cech
    LB – Shaw
    LCB – Koscielny
    RCB – Smailing
    RB – Valencia
    LCM – Pereyra
    RCM – Hererra
    CAM – Rooney
    LW – Martial
    RW – Mkhitaryan
    ST – Sturridge

    and i use 433(4)

      1. thanks…. in your opinion should i sub rooney for ozil? n cech for butland ?

  27. Hi Rodrigo.

Thank you very much for the guide. I searched all over the web for it while it was still not up yet. Hehe. I’m not that much an analyst when it comes to FIFA players so your guide is appreciated.

    First of all:
    – I play a 4-3-3 formation with a CDM.
    – I like to play down the middle
    – I’m unsure what to improve next and wondering how good SBC Son and SBC Sterling really is.

    My squad is as follows:
    ..Son(sbc) — Kane — Sterling(sbc)..
    ..Eriksen — Matic(cdm) — Wilshere..
    Shaw — Bailly — Smalling — Walker
    ……………….Bravo……………….

Sub and res: Butland, Zouma, Reid, Rose, Bellerin, Milner, Pereyra, Schnedlerlin (cdm), Baufal, Welbeck, Slimani

    Regards,
    Jim

    1. Hi. Thank you for your preference.
I like your team. It’s good to see players trying to balance the team. Most of the times, players are only worried with the attack but having Shaw, Bailly, Smalling and Walker is a good way to start a team.
Your SBC players are OK. There are other players better than them but since you already have them…
      Regards

      1. Hi Rodrigo.

        Thank you for replying 🙂

Somehow my mind just like purple and I had to do them. Hehe. Would you say players like Shaqiri, Deulofeu and Martiel are better than my SBC ones? Or should you search for even better players before replacing?

        Regards.

        1. No, your SBC players are better than those ones. However, you invested much more than the price of Shaqiri, Deulofeu and Martiel together.
When I said you have better players than your SBC ones, I was talking about the top players.
          Regards

          1. I see. Thank you very much! 🙂 Currently I switched to a 4-1-2-1-2, which works way better for me! So no SBC atm. Hehe 🙂

            Regards

  28. THX for the guide!
1 problem…were does kante fit in all this. I can t find him in your guide

    1. One big problem. 🙂
We have analysed CM e CAM together and for that reason Kante isn’t in the best choices because there are many quality players for this positions in this league. He is a great player but no as great as De Bruyne, Pogba and David Silva, just to name a few players.
Next time we will have to analyse CAm and CMs separately.

  29. Hi man, a wonderful guide as always. Look My forward to your Serie A guide. I have a couple of small questions.
    1. I played FIFA 16 and 16 with Serie A. As quality was good and prices were less. This time I decided to go with BPL. But, I am unable to put 11 men on the ground. Very poor players are going at very high prices. I am not likely to go beyond 300k coins in the game as I play 10-15 games a week. So which league do you suggest for me with such kind of money?
    2. People always say that BPL has quality. But, I say that BPL had variety and high prices. Serie A offers much better players for the money.
    3. Everyone is going crazy about this custom tactics b***it. I played previous versions of default. This time I am fiddling with custom tactics. Is it worth it to change them? I play a 4-1-2-1-2 and rush at both attack and defence. By the way I am getting hammered at defence in FIFA 17. Don’t know why.

    Sorry for the long message.
    Regards.

    1. Hi! Thank you.
Serie A guide estimated date is November 4.

      1) I suggest you start playing with a Serie A team and then, during the TOTY, if you still wish to build a PL squad do it on that time because prices will be much lower.
      2) Totally agree with you.
      3) We will publish a custom tactics guide in the coming weeks. However, 41212 (2) may be a better formation for you than 41212.

  30. Surprised Musa isn’t the economical choice. Very good stats and just 3k. Also is Masuaku a good choice for LB?Either way, thanks for the guide.

    1. Tough call. I’ve not played with Wellbeck (3k) but found Musa (now looks about 4.3k) very good for the stats and cost. Losses out on Phy but a good amount faster than Wellbeck.

      1. who do you suggest and hwat improvements can I make? (I recently started) I’m using a 4-3-1-2. A lot of people recommended this formation and it’s been going well with 8 wins and 3 losses.
        GK:Butland(loan)
        CBs: Vertonghen and Masbakele
Fullbacks: Bellerin(loan) and some bronze(looking for a replacement)
        CMs: Pereyra,Kouyate,Wilshere
        CAM: Alli(loan)
STs: Gray(loan, has been terrorizing defences), Alex Hunter(Meh).

          1. A new CB instead of Vertonghen or the other one(can’t spell his name lol). Right now I’ve bought gibbs,Reid and Musa. Planning to buy Mata soon. Thanks for the reply.

          2. Sorry If I’m asking too much but can you name good improvements for my team? Thanks again

        1. Lb moreno, cb bailly and kabasele, rb bellerin.
          Cdm mccarthy
          Cm lanzini
Walcott and mane are affordable options early.
Musa for a late sub. Suggest getting a speedy st. Remy or vardy.
Play single player to earn money. Use the UT coin boost win some tournaments.

  31. I’ve made good progress with my 4-3-3 (4). I’m slowly trading my way to be able to afford Aguero, but do you reckon I’d be better off upgrading my GK first? Right now I’ve got enough coins for Courtois, but then I’d be starting pretty much fresh in my pursuit of Aguero. 500k is a lot to save for one player.

    GK: Butland
    LB: Azpilicueta
    CB: Koscielny
    CB: Bailly
    RB: Walker
    CM: Matic
    CM: Gundogan
    CAM: Silva
    LW: Sanchez
    RW: Willian
    ST: Vardy or Lukaku

  32. Hi, who are the 6th,7th,8th,9th choice strikers, 6th,7th,8th,9th choice centre midfielders and the 6th and 7th choice left midfielders. At the moment I am between the low and Medium budget squads.

      1. Ok, For left midfielders are Depay and Walcott good choices. For stikers are Remy and Kane good for one team, batshuayi and Rashford for the next.

  33. Hi…very nice guide..i use 433 attack
    GK-Curtois
    LB-Shaw
    LCB-Koscielny
    RCB-Kompany
    RB-Walker
    LCM-Herera
    RCM-Matic
    CAM-Eriksen
    LW-Depay
    ST-Lukaku
    RW-Shaqiri

Any sugestions what could maybe be better? (Just to mention i dont have budget to buy players like ozil,de bruyne, sanchez, willian etc)
    Maybe dembele instead of herera?
    Mkhitaryan instead of shaqiri?
Idk i was also thinking to sell kompany and put someone a bit faster there..less overall for 1 or 2 but kompany is really slow and has a very bad stamina

      1. tahnk you for reply, keep going the good work,i was also following the last year,,best site for fifa 🙂

  34. Hi! Great guide. I’m currently playing two formations depending on how I feel

    My 4-3-3(4) is
    Butland
    Gibbs – Reid – Ogbonna – Nyom
    Wilshere – Barkley – Pereyra
    Arnautovic – Perez – Shaqiri

    or my 4-1-2-1-2 is
    Butland
    Gibbs – Reid – Ogbonna – Nyom
    Wanyama
    Arnautovic – Shaqiri
    Barkley
    Perez – Welbeck

I’ve got just over 20k coins at the moment. Do you have any suggestions for some upgrades to this team given that I can’t afford the best of the best. I believe I sit somewhere inbetween the low and medium budget.

  35. Roger federer

Hi Rodrigo great article! Can you give me some comments on how to improve my squad:

    Joe Hart
    Clyne-Matip-Terry-Rose
    Matic-Mccarthy
    Barkley
    Martial-Benteke-Mahrez

Barely have any coins left. I had Begovic for a couple matches and he was absolutely shite for me. Couldn’t afford the likes of Lloris or Cech. Not exactly happy with my CB pairing but I like Terry’s defending skills inside the box. Any thoughts on the rest of the squad?

    1. Hi.
For your budget your team looks OK. In a 4xx formation, having Terry in the defence is very dangerous, especially if you like to have more possession than your opponent. I suggest you colect more 2k coins and replace him by Zouma.

  36. I’m playing a 4-3-3 (4). What do you think about a front three of Hazard Aguero Sanchez (or have Hazard & Sanchez the other way round). I know Sanchez is a LW but I’d have perfect chemistry anyway, and I reckon Sanchez is better than Willian.

  37. I read these reviews every year, and look forward to your Bundesliga one this year. I usually build my own expensive squad and then come here to get suggestions for a fitness squad though I’ve taken the odd suggestion for my main team.

I may have missed it but you’ve not mentioned Kante that I saw. Would just like to add that he is very decent. Also Remy is pretty good up front for a cheap forward with pace, though admittedly I haven’t tried Vardy so he could be much more proficient.

Favourite new player this year is Renato Sanchez. He’s the lowest rated player in my Bundesliga squad by quite a way but he is absolutely phenomenal.

Thanks for the guides. They definitely help!

    1. Hi. Thank you for your comment.
Renato Sanchez is the player I most like to watch in real life so I’m very expectant to publish the Bundesliga guide in 2 weeks.
Kante is a great player but the problem is to have so many quality players in this league playing as CM or CAM. He can also be used as CDM (better than Matic) but there are other better options in the unlimited budget squad and he is too expensive to the medium budget squad.
Remy is a typical case of good value for money but there are other good options in this league too.
      Regards

  38. Rodrigo you said for CM and CAM that Silva was your third choice in the description but on the list you have #3 Ozil. Which one is your third choice?

  39. hi…i have just one question..how can Azpilicueta or Baines be better choice on the left beck instead of rose, shaw, gibbs or moreno ? pace is really important on the left and right back…Azpilicueta and Baines would never catch willian or someone else on the wing..they are just too slow ,everyone has fast strikers and wings..Azpilicueta and Baines cant handle speedsters, i know they have some better stats comapring to others, but i think it’s better to have a LB with something like 85 speed and 78 defending rather then 79 speed and 84 defending…

    1. Azpilicueta is almost as fast as Rose, Shaw and Gibbs.
Baines is a great player but he is also slower. He can be used depending of the play style you use. For 5xx defensive formations, for example, he may be a better option.

  40. Hello Rodrigo, thanks for the fantastic help. I notice Anthony Martial isn’t in any squad, but do you think he’s still a good option for a medium budget team?

    1. Hi.
The squads are just a resume of the other chapters. If you pay attention to our Left Midfielders selection, you will see that he is our fourth choice for this position. In fact, Martial is not good enough to be in the unlimited budget squad but he is also too expensive to our medium budget squad. Yes, he is a decent choice for a medium budget squad.

  41. Hi Rodrigo! First and foremost, thanks a lot for the brilliant guide! It is my 3rd year in a row using your guides and they never let me down!

    This is my team:

    [4-3–2-1]

    GK: Butland (on loan)
    CBs: Kabasele and Matip
    LB: Rose
    RB: Bellerin (on loan)
CMs: Fellaini, Dele (on loan) and SBC Gareth Barry
    RF: Mané
    LF: Bolasie
    ST: Musa

This team has worked exceptionally well for me thus far. However I have anywhere between 100-200k more (once I’ve cleared out my club). Which players would you recommend for my team? (I have 6 matches left on Dele and Bellerin but only 3 on Butland). I have so far packed IF Podolski and 88 Hugo Lloris! (From free packs not with fifa points). Should I use them or wait a few days and sell them for a good price?

Many thanks again for the consistently good guides.

    – James

    1. Thank you! We are pretty confident about the guide of this year. We believe it is even more accurate than the ones we published in previous years.
The market is always unpredictable but the prices will drop for sure before the FUT United, in less than a month. Sell them.
If the team is working fine, you shouldn’t change it too much. 100-200k is a big budget for a team like yours.
My suggestions are: buy Butland or, if you want, keep with Lloris; Buy Bailly, Bellerin, Matic (instead of Dele) and Lukaku. You shouldn’t make many changes at once. Do it progressively to have the chance to evaluate the players. If you want to improve a bit more, you can also try Shaqiri and Depay.
      Regards

      1. Hi again, I am struggling on where to use SBC Barry. Obviously, I am looking to depart with Fellaini and Dele is on his last few games for my club so Matic is the obvious choice to fill in. However where does that leave Gareth Barry? I have had him on the left side of midfield with Fellaini in the middle. When I upgrade to Matic, I presume it would be best for Matic to go in the centre with Barry still on the left? Then on the right, Eriksen would be ideal with that 5* week foot.

Do you have any intentions to do set-piece guides? e.g. Different types of free kick (driven free kick etc) and short free kicks and how to do them. I’ve been pretty consistant so far with direct free kicks and penalties, but crossing, corners and indirect free kicks are puzzling!

        Thanks once more!

        1. I can’t believe my luck! Just packed Ribery in a 5k draft pack! +35k to my budget!

  42. Hi Rodrigo,

First of all i would like to express my entire gratitude for your awesome work. I’ve been a big fan of your blog since Fifa 13 and been constantly recommending it to all my friends. Keep up the great job! 😉

Also, i would be really grateful if you could assist me with my current squad please. I managed to reach div 5, but my team is being completely trashed my others, and i’m unable to reach div 4 since 2-3 seasons, so i thought maybe you could give me a few tips regarding my squad. I also realise that most of the goals i conceded came from the flank (that was left exposed) and i guess pace abusers are back this year, so my defenders seem totally powerless.

Currently i play with 4-1-2-1-2 (2) BPL team, but i can certainly switch to 4-1-2-1-2, if you recommend me so. I also have a budget of 50K to spend in order to improve the team.

    My team:
    Benteke Bony
    Barkley
    Mirallas Deulofeu
    Schneiderlin
    Holebas Reid Jagielka Darmian
    Begovic

Once again i thank you so much for you help, really appreciated!

    Cheers!

    1. Your support means a lot for us. Thank you!
If your problem is on the wings, changing to a 41212 could be a good idea. I don’t know why you are using Mirallas and Deulofeu in a 41212 (2) squad but they will be useful if you change your formation. Are you sure their individual chemistry is not broken because they are out of position? It doesn’t help you.
About your team, I believe that you should use your coins to upgrade a few positions: Mustafi instead of Jagielka because of his pace (if possible apply him a chemistry style to make him even faster); Shaw instead of Holebas; Matic instead of Schneiderlin (crucial position in a 41212 squad); Eriksen instead of Barkley. Don’t worry about the coins. If you sell the players you are replacing, these upgrades will not cost you more than 30k coins and you will notice a difference.
      Regards

  43. We all know BPL players are stronger and useful in the game but not in real life. I saying that because every sing fifa player knows its easy the play with those players. EA should be fear about it. Build BPL team and get EA help simple is that. I am sorry but this is true thatswhy people buying BPL players. Ofcourse everbody wants to be on stronger side and choice the easy way to play the game. But sorry not me. People like me know what is football. We all know Spanish teams dominant to football and after that juve munich vs but not british teams or their national team. For example Sevilla last 3 years they are the UEFA cup winner and why the hell in the game man United have better stats than sevilla? Whats man United done to bein better than sevilla. How the hell pogba have better stats than ineasta and we called that “FOOTBALL” game isnt? Yeah sure ofcourse.
Anyway mr Rodrigo i talking about general not personal Please dont mis understand me. I am not perfect gamer but i am huge football lover and team of Galatasaray fun. Also i like your sharings. Take care easy

    1. I agree with you. In fact, I believe that most of the players agree with you. I usually play with a La Liga squad and not with a PL squad.
This game is a business and the biggest audience is from UK. That’s why EA gives so good stats and ratings to the EPL teams.

      1. Thanks boss. We all whats capitalism 🙂
Anyway once again you pruve you are proper football fun and answering fear also very helpful comments. Thatswhy i will be keep read your sharings. Have a nice day

      1. Thanks.
One more question if I may, I’m struggling on pro clubs even though I have all the possession and shots I end up losing.Any suggestions on formation and pre set tactics.
        Thanks again.

  44. Great guide as always – thank you! I was trying to anticipate what players you would pick for the economic choice and I managed to match your choice in some cases!

  45. Hi Rodrigo,

Great write up. Have been waiting for your round up since the game launch. I have this squad in a 4-3-3(2):
    Lloris
    Walker Matip Smalling Azpi
    Kouyate
    Coutinho Eriksen
    Mane Origi Payet

What would be your suggested improvements on them? Maybe the next 2 or 3 improvements. Origi has been a pleasant surprise so far for me. Thanks.

    1. Hi. Good to know you like it. Unfortunately we can not publish this earlier because we have to test the players first.
Well, you already have a very nice team. Most of these players are the ones we also recommend in our guide. In my opinion, Matip and Kouyate are your weakness. If I was you, I would buy Matic first. He is affordable. Assuming that you can not buy Bailly in the coming weeks, maybe you should start trying Mustafi.
      Regards

      1. Thanks for the quick reply! I do have coins so just a few follow up:

        1. Would Kante be a better buy than Matic because of his pace?

        2. I see you suggested Bailly. Between Kosc or him fit who would fit better here since kosc is cheaper?

Thanks! Looking forward to your other guides.

        1. Hi.
          1. In my opinion, pace is not crucial in a CDM. Strength, for example, can be more important. It isn’t easy to choose between Kante and Matic for a CDM. The biggest difference is the price and Matic is much better value for money.
          2. Koscileny is more expensive and our first choice.
          Regards

          1. Thanks again Rodrigo. I traded on a few players and seems to get stuck between div 3 and 4. I felt I had to change the formation to a 4231(2) because my passes were not getting to where I want. After the change it feels a bit better. Here’s my current team:

            De gea
            Walker Bailly Zouma Azpi
            Eriksen Matic
            Mane Firmino Mirallas
            Vardy

            1. What should I go for next? Replace Zouma (who’s doing well I feel) or any of the mid “3”?

            2. I also have a mane OTW card. In your opinion should I keep or sell before fut united/market crash etc?

Thanks and have a good day!

  46. Awesome analysis. It is very helpful for those positions that you have a few doubts. I hope you do it for Calcio, La Liga, Bundesliga as well. Congratulations, well done!
