A goalkeeper task is made easier if in front of him are quality central backs. Their function is to stop the opponent from getting dangerously close to your team’s goal.

There are plenty of quality centre backs on this league but, in our opinion, Koulibaly and Škriniar are the best ones. They are very strong, fast and only Chiellini defends better than them.

Far of the quality of these two, you can also use Matthijs de Ligt, Manolas and Tomori. The first one is our favourite, because he is the most balanced one, but the other two are also interesting options, especially for those who love fast CBs (they are the fastest ones). There is also Chiellini and Bonucci, who are good defenders but too slow for most of the teams.

Right backs have exactly the same role of their team mates on the other flank. In other words, they try to make a winger’s job hard and participate in the team’s offensive manoeuvres.

It’s not from today but, as you probably know, there is a lack of quality on right backs from the Serie A. In our opinion, Juan Cuadrado is the best player in this position. He has the highest dribbling stats and the second best pace and passing. Only Florenzi has better shooting than him. Unfortunately, Cuadrado is not as good on the defence.

There are players you may use but your choice should take into consideration their weak points: Danilo is slow and more focused in the defence; Dumfires and Marušić have low passing stats; Lazzari is weak; and Di Lorenzo doesn’t have strong points.

Left backs have exactly the same role of their team mates on the other flank. In other words, they try to make a winger’s job hard and participate in the team’s offensive manoeuvres.

There is more quality on the left side of the defence than on the right side, which isn’t difficult. However, there are only 13 left-backs from where to choose. It’s easy to agree that Theo Hernández is the best player for this position on this league, followed by Spinazzola and Alex Sandro, respectively.

To pick the best alternative to these three, you have to take a decide between the pace of Haps and the passing skills of Ansaldi.
