The Best Defensive Midfielders
Many FUT formations require some midfielders with a natural aptitude to defend. Central defensive midfielders are mainly aimed to help the back line. However, according to their attributes and work rates, they can also help start attacks. Therefore, they occupy a very strategic position in the field.
It would be best if you looked at several attributes when choosing a central defensive midfielder: defending, to be able to support the back line; strength, to win possession more times; heading, to win the ball in aerial moves like goal kicks; pace, to cover as many spaces as possible; stamina, so he can equally participate in offensive and defensive plays (beneficial for players with high/high work rates); passing and possession, so that he can properly start attacks. In our opinion, the two first are the most important ones.
Usually, defensive midfielders are chosen to help the defence. So, it makes sense that they have high defensive stats. The area of the field occupied by CDMs is where most ball disputes happen. Strong players will have the highest probability of winning the ball.

Global Overview (CDM)
Tonali has no competition in this position. He is the fastest but also one of the best in the other face stats. Brozović, the best alternative to him, has similar stats but is much slower.
If you want someone cheaper, we strongly recommend trying Zambo Anguissa, one of the good surprises this year. He is solid in the defense, fast enough and decent at starting the attack. If you need more attack power, you can use Bennacer instead.
We know how much the community loves Pogba. However, despite his good other stats, we don’t recommend using him because of his defense. He is the defensive midfielder in Serie A who defends worst.
The Best Centre Midfielders
Many games are decided in the midfield and not close to the goals. The players that play in these zones are the ones that should create chances and set the pace of the game.
Centre midfielders are responsible for discovering lines that break the opponent’s defence. Their passing quality has to be good so that they can assist forwards.
Good dribbling skills allow the team to move forward, creating potential problems for the other team.

Global Overview (CM)
Barella isn’t the best in any of the six face stats but is the best center midfielder playing in Italy globally. His superb stamina and high/high work rates are a pleasing extra.
Tonali is an exceptional defensive midfielder and one of the best center midfielders you can use. He doesn’t have the dribbling skills of Pogba, but he is much faster.
Sergey Milinkovic-Savic is another good option for this position. He’s solid in the back and has great skills on the attack. Five of his six face stats are 79 or higher, has 4-stars skills, and 5-star weak foot. The only reason not to be one of our choices for the defensive midfielder is that he doesn’t have any alternative position.
There are cheaper options, like Weston McKennie, one of the community favorites and a very balanced midfielder.
The Best Attacking Midfielders
An attacking centre midfielder is responsible for creating chances to score. They should have good dribbling, decent passing, a high long shot, and great vision stat.
These midfielders need to have good passing stats to assist forwards. However, they can make all the difference when the team is attacking if they are good dribblers.

Global Overview (CAM)
Unless you have a limited budget, any other think but use Dybala to this position is a comple non-sense. He is fast and, among all Serie A attacking midfielders, he has the best shooting, passing and driblling skills. Is this enough to convince you?
The best alternative to the Roma midfielder is Pellegini but there are also decent options as Zieliński, Malinovskyi and Mkhitaryan.
The Best Right Midfielders
Wingers are usually responsible for giving game width in the attack.
The pace is probably the biggest weapon of these players. They use it to escape opponents. However, being fast isn’t enough to reach the opponent’s box. A good dribbling stat will help you to surpass the opponents’ players that appear on the way. When reaching the opponent’s box, the winger has to decide what to do. Typically, he decides to cross, and that’s why it’s so important to have good passing stats.

Global Overview (RM, RW)
In our opinion, Cuadrado is the best option for this position. He’s the second fastest right midfielder and has the best dribbling, including the ability to perform 5-stars skills. Because of his defensive skills and work rates, he may also help the defense.
Since you may need Cuadrado to play as a right-back, you will have to pick another player for the right side of the midfield. The player you choose depends on what you want. If you want pace, Lozano is the man you are looking for. If you wish someone good with the ball on his feet, Di María is incredibly good. He has 5-star skills, the best passing, and dribbling. He’s not as fast as we would like, but no one is good at everything, right?!
For low-budget squads, we recommend using Zaniolo. Strong and fast, he is a player you should consider.
The Best Left Midfielders
The left wingers have the same role as their teammates from the other side.

Global Overview (LM, LW)
Having two left midfielders in the same league, such talented as Chiesa and Rafael Leão, is a waste. They cannot play anywhere else, so one must be left out of the team. They don’t have many differences, but our preference is for Chiesa because of his better shooting and, most importantly, his work rates.
There are two decent alternatives to them. Spinazzola is more popular, probably because of his amazing pace, but we believe Kostić will bring you better results.
Paul Pogba can play in this position, but that’s something you should avoid because of his poor pace.
