The game was officialy announced on August 25, 2021 and set to be released in 2022. Nevertheless, on August 30, 2022, Eugene Nashilov, CEO of Strikerz Inc., announced that the game’s release date would be shifted to 2023.
The development team provided more details on the official website regarding the reason for the delay:
UFL is an exceptionally complex project, featuring a wide range of football mechanics and techniques, as well as dynamic animations, world-class play styles, and so much more. Strikerz Inc. cares most of all about meeting our players’ expectations and wants to make sure our team has enough time to make UFL everything it should be. In order to make the best game possible, the release will be pushed to 2023.
A few months later, the game’s release was postponed again, this time to the end of 2024. Everything indicates that this will indeed be the release date, as a Beta version was made available to the public in June. The latest official information indicates that ‘The full game is set to be released globally later this year.
UFL – Fair to Play
Presently, under development by the newly established company Strikerz Inc., their goal is to distinguish their title from FIFA/FC by adopting a free-to-play model, similar to Konami’s eFootball. According to their website, the game is also flagged as no pay to win, fair to play, and no handicap.
According to Goals AB, the game is described as a ‘fair-to-play’ with ‘a skill-first approach and zero pay-to-win options’. Built with the Unreal Engine, UFL has formed partnerships with FIFPro, a global representative organization for over 65,000 professional footballers, and InStat, a sports performance analysis company. These collaborations will ensure up-to-date statistics for each player in the game.
