Qatar 2022

The World Cup is the most prestigious association football tournament in the world, as well as the most widely viewed and followed single sporting event in the world.

The 22nd edition is played in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December 2022. This is the first World Cup to be held in the Arab world, and the second held entirely in Asia after the 2002 tournament in South Korea and Japan.

This tournament has 32 participating teams and it is played in a reduced timeframe of 29 days. Competing countries were divided into eight groups of four teams (groups A to H). Teams in each group are playing one another in a round-robin, with the top two teams advancing to the knockout stage.

In the knockout stage, if the scores are equal at the end of normal playing time, extra time is played for two periods of 15 minutes each. This is followed, if necessary, by a penalty shoot-out to determine the winners.
