How to Find an Opponent

Do you know when, before a match, the system fails to find an opponent for you or when the opponent is much better or worse than you? And when the game frequently freezes? These things can happen because you are not familiar with how the system works to match you with another person in online games. If this is your case, do not worry because we will explain everything.

FC 24 Matchmaking is designed to create fair and competitive online matches for players. The game takes into account various factors, including skill level, location, and connection quality, to pair players with opponents of similar abilities. This ensures that each match offers a challenging and enjoyable experience.

Additionally, Football Club 24 implements a ranking system that tracks player performance, allowing for more accurate matchmaking based on skill progression. By continuously analyzing player data and adjusting matchmaking parameters, FC 24 aims to provide balanced and exciting gameplay for all participants.

Generally speaking, EA Sports FC 24 online matchmaking system works based on three main factors:

  • Your Location;
  • Your Current Form;
  • Your Platform.

Location

Location plays a significant role in the matchmaking process of FC24. The game considers the geographical proximity of players when searching for opponents. This is done comparing IP addresses and account regions. The closer you are to a specific EA’s dedicated game server, the higher the chances of being matched with other players who are also close to that server.

The primary reason for this is to minimize latency or lag between players, ensuring a smoother and more responsive gameplay experience. By matching players who are physically closer to each other, the game reduces the distance that data packets need to travel, resulting in lower latency and more stable connections. This helps to maintain the integrity of online matches and provides a fair and competitive environment for players.

Additionally, prioritizing proximity in matchmaking can also enhance the overall gameplay experience by reducing the likelihood of connectivity issues and ensuring a level playing field for all participants.

If you do not wish to be preferentially matched with someone geographically close to you, you can request the matchmaking system to ignore location.

How to Disable Approximate Location Matchmaking
  1. From the main FC24 screen, navigate to [Settings];
  2. Select [Online Settings];
  3. Select [Matchmaking Options];
  4. Change [Approximate Location Matchmaking] to ‘No’.

Current Form

In Football Club 24, current form is one of the factors that can influence matchmaking. The game takes into account the recent performance of players when searching for opponents.

This means that if you have been performing well and achieving positive results in your previous matches, the system may pair you with opponents who have a similar current form. Likewise, if your recent performances have been less successful, the matchmaking system may match you with opponents who are also experiencing a similar form.

This helps to create more balanced and competitive matches, ensuring that players are challenged appropriately based on their recent performances.

It’s important to note that form does not carry over between different competitions. When you start a Play-Offs or Finals, your form is initially set to zero, and it will be based on your performance within that specific competition. This ensures that matches are fair and competitive, as you will be facing opponents who are on a similar form trajectory as you in that particular tournament.

Platform

The platform you are playing on can affect matchmaking in FC 24. The game takes into consideration the platform you are using when searching for opponents. For example, if you are playing on a specific gaming console or PC platform, the matchmaking system will only search for opponents who are also playing on the same platform.

This helps to ensure compatibility and an optimal online gaming experience. By matching players on the same platform, it allows for smoother connectivity, consistent gameplay, and access to specific features or functionalities available on that particular platform.

If you want to be matched with players from other platforms, you need to enable the cross-play feature.

How to Enable Cross-Play
  1. From the main FC24 screen, navigate to [Customise];
  2. Select [Onlinse Settings];
  3. Select [Matchmaking Options];
  4. Change [Cross-play Enabled] to ‘Yes’.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Since FIFA 23 you can play Champions with players from the same generation if you have crossplay enabled on your account.
For Division Rivals specifically, matchmaking will be done using the divisions of the duo.
Champions folows the same matchmaking rules as other game modes in FC 24: location, form and platform.

Players who are better than average in the Champions (already a very skilled group of players) will quickly boost their Form. The higher their Form gets, the more challenging the competition becomes. Only the best of the best can consistently beat players with high Form.

Matchmaking is different depending on whether you are playing in Division 1 to 10, or you are playing the Elite Division.

Divisions 10–1
For both Solo and Co-Op Matchmaking for Divisions 10–1, you’ll matchmake with players based on two different factors:
– Your location. This determines which FC Game Data Center location will be used for your match.
– Your Rank. This means you’ll be matched with players that have a similar Rank as you.

Elite Division Matchmaking
Elite Division Matchmaking in Division Rivals is based on two different factors:
– Your location. This determines which FC Game Data Center location will be used for your match.
– Your Skill Rating. You’ll play with players who are close to the same Skill Rating as you. As long as you have a 2200 Skill Rating or above, you’ll matchmake as if you had a 2200 Skill Rating. This is to help make it easier for higher-skilled players to find matches.

The Skill Rating factor has a larger range on the PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S versions of Football Club 24 to better accommodate the player base on these platforms. If you’re playing Co-Op, the Skill Rating of the higher-skilled player in a pair is used when matchmaking, meaning that at least two of the four potential Co-Op participants can have a similar Skill Rating.
